Kapiti College Junior Premier Boys Team vs Paraparaumu College Junior Boys A Team - The Patrick Caudle Cup 2017

The Kapiti College Junior Premier Boys were keen for another opportunity to play and end a long season on a high note. Finishing the Division 1 season as finalists was a high point of the season for us but we were left with a bitter taste in the mouth after a narrow loss in that final. Getting the boys together for one more game after a week and a half off with no training wasn’t at all difficult and we jumped at the chance to play Paraparaumu College for the Patrick Caudle Cup.

Paraparaumu College lifted the trophy at the end of a tough game for us in 2016 at the inaugural traditional game. This year the boys were confident of settling the score.

Paraparaumu College controlled the opening tip and scored first, but that was the last time they would lead in a one-sided game of basketball. KC took the win and the Cup with a convincing 86 – 46 score.

Top scorers on the night were Wilford Roberts (38 points) and Kian Deehan (11 points). The boys have been well supported all year by family and loyal friends and it was awesome to see a larger number of our supporters at Paraparaumu College cheering on our boys.

Coach Paul Roberts

Road Cycling:

The Wellington Schools Road Cycling Championships was held last weekend, and Camden Feint (Y10) riding for Kapiti College (the only one from Kapiti!) was third overall in the U17 Boys division. The individual events were a hill climb (Cam 2nd), a time trial (4th) and criterium (6th). GREAT WORK CAM.

Swimming

Nic Cecioni, Desiree Grout and Tori Grout represented Kapiti College and competed in New Zealand Secondary School Swimming Competition on 15th-17th Sept. Competition was tough. Tori (in the middle) won 3 medals - 2 Gold in 200 Breast & 100 Breast and a Silver for 50 Breast. Enjoyable weekend by all and well done!

A huge congratulations to the following year 13’s who played their last game last week against Paraparaumu College Although we lost 0-8 we were very proud of their efforts vs the 5th ranked NZ team with four players injured Macleay Jones 130th Jack Dean 124th Ben Rollander 120th Kieran Stephenson 106th Regan Coulter 78th Adam Stella 24th.

Also to Isaac Dyer and Matt Walker for reaching

their 100th game.

NZ National Boxing Champs:

Zac (Y12) and Toby (Y10) Jensen – Boxing Champs

Lochy our oldest brother got into boxing because he thought it would be fun and good fitness and then Zac joined later and I joined about a year after that. We all box for Kapiti Boxing Club. I have been boxing just over three years; Zac has been boxing for about four and Lochy 4ish. In the last couple months we have been to 3 competitions, Wellington Champs, Manawatu Champs and Nationals (NZ Champs). I had two fights at Wellington Champs in the same day and won both. Lochy and Zac both had one fight and they won as well. At Manawatu I had one fight and won Lochy had one fight and won and Zac didn't get a fight. At Nationals Zac fought on the Tuesday and won which meant he made it to the finals on Thursday. We both had three people in our division but Zac was unlucky, whereas I got the lucky draw which meant I went straight into the finals and fought a boy that had beaten me earlier in the year at Golden Gloves by a split decision and this time I won. Zac fought just after me and stopped his guy in the first minute (the ref stopped the fight because Zac was winning). I fought in the 57kg Divison and Zac

fought in the Under 63kg Division. Toby Jensen

Well done boys – watch out Joseph Parker

Umpiring

Hayley Taylor (Y10) took up netball umpiring last year. She umpires every Saturday at Hutt Valley Netball Centre (where her mum also umpires). This year Hayley sat the umpire’s exam and achieved not only her junior but also her intermediate umpires’ badge in one go. She was also awarded the Garvitch Rosebowl cup for most promising junior umpire. Well done Hayley.

Performing Arts/Cultural Events: Chamber Music performance:

Caitlin Taramai, Willow Whitfield, Phoebe Wenlock,

Emma Downer and Isobelle Macey

The congregation of St Mark's church was entertained by some of our talented chamber musicians on Tuesday afternoon. The diverse programme included works by Baston, Telemann, Mozart, Christopher Norton and Nathan Kolosco. For some of our junior students it was the first time performing in public as part of a chamber music group but for the majority, this was another performance in a long line of critically acclaimed public appearances. Our award-winning "Koloscats" (Nicole Thomson, Jamie Beardslee, Nikau Wi Neera) gave a stunning performance of Nathan Kolosco's Hungarian Trio. The audience was also blown away by Zephyr Wills' stunning rendition of Hoffmeister's viola concerto. Zephyr is still on cloud nine after hearing this week that he has been accepted into the Classical Music Performance programme at the New Zealand School of Music as a violist. So too is Vanessa O'Neill after hearing that she has also been accepted to study Classical piano performance next year. Well done to all concerned! We are proud of you.

National Shakespeare in Schools Production:

Loren in the middle

Every year 47 students are selected for their exceptional performances at the Sheilah Wynn Shakespeare Festival to participate in the National Shakespeare in Schools Production. NSSP is a week of Shakespeare workshops and training, with students performing an abridged version of a selected Shakespeare play to the public. 24 students are then selected to perform at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London.

Loren was selected for her performance at the regional competition as Macbeth in a 15 minute compilation of scenes, directed by Siobhan Malley.

She will be going to this event along with Kent Norris from Paraparaumu College and 45 other students from around the country. Loren is very excited for this once in a lifetime experience and would love to be selected to go to London."

We wish her all the best,
