MRSA
Symptoms: Chills, chest pain Cough Fatigue Fever General ill feeling (malaise) Headache
Diagnosis: Blood, urine, drainage culture
Cause: methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus staph bacteria enter a person's body through a cut, sore,
catheter, or breathing tube Prognosis: MRSA-related pneumonia and blood infections
are associated with high death rates.
Tuberculosis
Symptoms: Cough (usually cough up mucus) Coughing up blood Excessive sweating, especially at night Fatigue Fever Unintentional weight loss
Diagnosis: Bronchoscopy Chest CT scan Chest x-ray Tuberculin skin test
Cause: Mycobacterium tuberculosis Prognosis:
Symptoms often improve in 2 - 3 weeks.
Meningitis
Symptoms: Fever and chills Mental status changes Nausea and vomiting Sensitivity to light (photophobia) Severe headache Stiff neck (meningismus)
Diagnosis: blood culture, chest x-ray, CT scan of head Cause:
Bacterial infection Chemical irritation Drug allergies Fungi Tumors
Prognosis: viral is treatable, bacterial is a medical emergency
