Hoy, todos los caminos conducen a YusteHubo un tiempo en el que las personas transitaron sendas trazadas sobre unos territorios que unas veces se mostraron favorables y, otras, hostiles. Mujeres y hombres que fueron afiligranando y edificando construcciones, pintando sensaciones; que sembraron especies vegetales y recorrieron calzadas o surcaron mares forjando una manera de entender la vida, la sociedad y la convivencia.

Siglos después, esa herencia nos sigue alimentando e incardinando en una tradición humanista basada en valores y principios como la libertad, la paz, la democracia y la solidaridad.

Cada 9 de mayo, nos reunimos en este rincón privilegiado de Extremadura para celebrar y para conmemorar. Celebramos los logros y conmemoramos las momentos que han ido tejiendo nuestra Europa, y lo hacemos en una solemne ceremonia para la entrega del Premio Europeo Carlos V de la Fundación Academia Europea e Iberoamericana de Yuste, que quiere ser una apuesta y una reivindicación de esa herencia rica y diversa, y esos valores europeos.

En esta ocasión, el galardón ha recaído en los Itinerarios Culturales del Consejo de Europa. Una iniciativa con la que se refuerza la identidad europea a través de la cultura y el patrimonio. Un viaje a través del tiempo y el espacio que hoy llega a Yuste.

There was a time when people crisscrossed the paths charted through territories which at times were friendly and at times hostile. While those women and men erected and decorated buildings, painted their emotions, spread plants, went down the roads, and sailed the seas, they were forging their worldview of harmonious societies.

Centuries later, that heritage keeps nurturing us as an integral part of a humanist tradition, based on values and principles such as freedom, peace, democracy and solidarity.

Every May 9 we meet in this privileged spot of Extremadura to celebrate and to commemorate the date. We celebrate the achievements and we commemorate the events that have contributed to weave our Europe, and we do so in a solemn ceremony where the Carlos V European Award is granted by the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, as a symbol of its firm stance in favour of that rich and diverse heritage and those European values.

On this occasion the Award has been granted to the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe, an initiative which strengthens Europe’s identity through culture and heritage. One of those journeys through time and space has reached Yuste today.

Itinerarios Culturales del Consejo de Europa

El programa de los Itinerarios Culturales del Consejo de Europa fue iniciado en 1987 con la declaración de Santiago de Compostela como primer Itinerario Cultural del Consejo de Europa. El objetivo del programa es demostrar por medio de un viaje a través del tiempo y del espacio cómo el patrimonio de los diferentes países y culturas de Europa, y de otros continentes, contribuyen a un patrimonio cultural compartido1.

Actualmente forman parte del programa 38 itinerarios certificados con más de 1600 miembros que recorren 61 países de cuatro continentes. Los itinerarios proporcionan una amplia variedad de actividades educativas y de ocio para todos los ciudadanos de toda Europa y de fuera de las fronteras europeas con socios en el Mediterráneo y en los continentes africano, americano y asiático. De esta manera los Itinerarios desarrollan a través de sus actividades recursos clave para el turismo responsable y el desarrollo sostenible, cubriendo una gama amplia de temas, desde arquitectura y el patrimonio cultural al paisaje pasando por la religión, la gastronomía, el patrimonio inmaterial y las figuras principales de la Historia, la literatura y la música europeas. España es uno de los escenarios privilegiados del programa con 21 itinerarios que recorren el país. Las Rutas del Emperador Carlos V, con sede en Cuacos de Yuste, cuentan con más de 80 miembros en 11 países de Europa, África y América y es Itinerario Cultural del Consejo de Europa desde el año 2015.

La certificación “Itinerario Cultural del Consejo de Europa” es una garantía de excelencia. Las redes implementan actividades innovadoras y proyectos que pertenecen a cinco campos de acción prioritarios: cooperación en investigación y desarrollo; mejora de la memoria, la historia y el patrimonio europeo; intercambios culturales y educativos para jóvenes europeos; la práctica cultural y artística contemporánea; turismo cultural y desarrollo cultural sostenible. A través de su programa, el Consejo de Europa ofrece un modelo para la gestión cultural y turística transnacional y permite sinergias entre las autoridades nacionales, regionales y locales y una amplia gama de asociaciones y actores socioeconómicos.

Los Itinerarios Culturales del Consejo de Europa son una invitación a viajar y descubrir el rico y diverso patrimonio de Europa uniendo a personas y lugares en redes de historia y patrimonio compartidos. Ponen en práctica los valores del Consejo de Europa que compartimos en la Unión Europea: derechos humanos, diversidad cultural, diálogo intercultural e intercambios mutuos a través de las fronteras, uniendo a países, regiones, municipios y ciudadanos en torno a proyectos comunes y compartidos que recorren la Unión Europea y van más allá de sus fronteras, fortaleciendo además la imagen y posición de Europa en el exterior y sus relaciones con el resto del mundo.

Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe

The Cultural Routes programme was launched by the Council of Europe in 1987 with the Declaration of Santiago de Compostela. The programme intends to demonstrate, by means of a journey through space and time, how the heritage of the different countries and cultures of Europe contributes to a shared cultural heritage1.

The programme is made up now of 38 certified cultural routes, with more than 1600 members, which cross 61 countries in four continents. The routes provide a wealth of leisure and educational activities for all citizens across Europe and beyond, with members coming from the Mediterranean basin and the African, American and Asian continents. The routes develop through their activities key resources for responsible tourism and sustainable development. They cover a range of different themes, from architecture and landscape to religious influences, from gastronomy and intangible heritage to the major figures of European art, music and literature. Spain is one of the programme’s privileged settings, with 21 routes across the country. Emperor Charles V’s route, based in Cuacos de Yuste, includes over 80 members in 11 countries in Europe, Africa and America and is a certified Cultural Route of the Council of Europe since 2015.

The certification “Cultural Route of the Council of Europe” is a guarantee of excellence. The networks implement innovative activities and projects pertaining to five main priority fields of action: co-operation in research and development; enhancement of memory, history and European heritage; cultural and educational exchanges for young Europeans; contemporary cultural and artistic practice; cultural tourism and sustainable cultural development. Through its programme, the Council of Europe offers a model for transnational cultural and tourism management and allows synergies between national, regional and local authorities and a wide range of associations and socio-economic actors.

The Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe are an invitation to travel and to discover the rich and diverse heritage of Europe by bringing people and places together in networks of shared history and heritage. They put into practice the values of the Council of Europe: human rights, cultural diversity, intercultural dialogue and mutual exchanges across borders, and they build bridges among countries, regions, local authorities and citizens through common and shared projects across the European Union and beyond, which reinforce Europe’s image outside the continent and its relations with the rest of the world.

XIII Edición del Premio Europeo Carlos VLa Fundación Academia Europea e Iberoamericana de Yuste creó el Premio Europeo Carlos V con el objetivo de reconocer la labor de aquellas personas, organizaciones, proyectos o iniciativas que han destacado por su compromiso con el proceso de construcción de la Unión Europea o por su contribución al fomento de los valores culturales, científicos e históricos de Europa.

Celebramos la XIII edición del Premio Europeo Carlos V bajo la presidencia de Su Majestad el Rey reafirmando la apuesta de Extremadura por el proceso de construcción europea, resaltando la importancia de iniciativas nacidas desde la sociedad civil y en favor de la unión y colaboración de los pueblos y ciudadanos de Europa.

BecasEl Premio lleva asociadas las Becas Europeas de Investigación y Movilidad en Estudios Europeos Premio Europeo Carlos V-Itinerarios Culturales del Consejo de Europa - que convoca la Fundación Academia Europea e Iberoamericana de Yuste. La convocatoria está dirigida a investigadores de toda Europa que se encuentran realizando estudios doctorales relacionados con el proceso de integración europea en cualquiera de las distintas disciplinas de las ciencias humanas y sociales y bajo una prioridad común relacionada con el perfil de la persona premiada. Los investigadores seleccionados participa en el Seminario Doctoral Premio Europeo Carlos V, y sus trabajos son publicados por la prestigiosa editorial de trabajos científicos Peter Lang.

Red AlumniSe constituyó para facilitar el intercambio de proyectos e información entre los investigadores especialistas en temas europeos que han obtenido una de las Becas Premio Europeo Carlos V. Hasta la fecha la Fundación ha otorgado más de 100 becas a investigadores procedentes de distintos países europeos como Alemania, Bélgica, España, Francia, Italia, Polonia, Holanda, Macedonia del Norte, Rumanía, Hungría, Países Bajos, Bulgaria, Rusia o Portugal, y otros países no europeos como Brasil, Cuba, México o Marruecos. Los investigadores que conforman la red pertenecen a disciplinas como Sociología, Economía, Política, Historia, Comunicación y Derecho, entre otras.

13th Edition of the Carlos V European AwardThe European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation created the Carlos V European Award in order to acknowledge the work of the people, organisations, projects or initiatives, that have excelled in their commitment to the process of construction of theEuropean Union or in promoting European cultural, scientific and historical values.

We are celebrating the 13th edition of the Carlos V European Award under the presidency of His Majesty the King of Spain, thus reaffirming Extremadura’s commitment in favour of the process of European construction, highlighting the importance of initiatives that emerge from the civil society, and in favour of the union and the collaboration the European people and citizens.

GrantsThe Award includes the European Grants for Research and Mobility in European Studies of the Carlos V European Award -Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe- announced by the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation. The call is addressed to researchers throughout Europe who are conducting doctoral studies related to the process of European integration in any of the different disciplines of human and social sciences, under a common priority related to the profile of the winner of the Award. The selected researchers participate in the Carlos V European Award Doctoral Seminar organised by the Foundation and their work is published by Peter Lang, the prestigious publishing house of scientific papers.

Alumni NetworkIt was set up to facilitate the exchange of projects and information among researchers specialising in European issues who have obtained one of the Grants of the European Carlos V Award. Until now, the Foundation has awarded more than 100 grants to researchers from different European countries, including Germany, Belgium, Spain, France, Italy, Poland, Holland, North Macedonia, Romania, Hungary, the Netherlands, Bulgaria, Russia or Portugal, and other non-European countries like Brazil, Cuba, Mexico or Morocco. The researchers who make up the network are from disciplines such as Sociology, Economics, Politics, History, Communication and Law.
