• Form- The present simple verb in both clauseEx) 1. If it rains, I get wet. 2. Owen can’t sleep if he drinks coffee late at

Use- Always happen, happen in the same way every

time, give facts(science, rules in sport etc.)Ex) 1. I’m always in a good mood if our team wins. 2. If you heat water to 100ºC, it boils.

Both ‘If clause’ and ‘result clause’ can come first.

When the ‘if clause’ comes first,we use a comma.

Ex) If Jacob eats too much, he gets stomachache. = Jacob gets stomachache if he eats too much.

2. First condi-tional

• Form- The present simple verb in ‘If clause’, will+verb in ‘result clause’.Ex) 1. If the bus comes late, I will just take a

taxi. 2. I will love him if he loves me.

• Use- Future possibility, warning, realistic predictions.Ex) 1. If you don’t get up now, you’ll miss the bus 2. If you don’t study hard, you’ll not get into university.

• If Donny continues to smoke, he will have health problem when he gets older.

• If Unice are not care of taking a taxi at night, she will be in trouble.

• Form- The past tense verb in the ‘If clause’,would(could, might) + verb in the ‘result cluase’.Ex) 1. If I were rich, I could help the poor. 2. If I had membership card, I would get a dis-

count.

• Use- Imagine something -different from the real situation now(present) -that are not true or unlikelyEx) 1. If someone stole my wallet, I would call the police.
