JOHN OLIVER has confronted Dustin Hoffman in a tense public discussion about allegations of sexual harass-ment that have been made against the actor.

H o f f m a n defended him-self after Anna Graham Hunter alleged he groped her on a fi lm set when she was 17 in 1985. The actor questioned Graham Hunter’s claims, asking Oliver: “Do you believe this stuff that you’re reading?”

Hoffman said the HBO talk show host was not keeping an “open mind” and was unquestionably believing the accusers. “I believe what she wrote, yes,” Oliver replied. “Because there’s no point in her lying.” The actor coun-tered: “Well, there’s a point in her not bringing it up for 40 years.”

Oliver was hosting a panel discus-sion in New York to mark the 20th anniversary of Hoffman’s fi lm “Wag the Dog.”

Oliver said he wasn’t sure whether to broach the subject of the allegations but decided he’d end up “hating” him-self if he didn’t.

Hunter published her account of her encounters with Hoffman in The Hollywood Reporter in November.

The veteran star responded at the time by putting out a statement saying: “I have the utmost respect for women and feel terrible that anything I might have done could have put her in an uncomfortable situation. I am sorry. It is not refl ective of who I am.” (SD-Agencies)

FRANCE’S biggest rock star Johnny Hallyday has died after a battle with lung cancer. He was 74.

The singer sold about 100 million records and starred in a number of fi lms in a career that began in 1960. He was made a Chevalier of the Legion D’Honneur by President Jacques Chirac in 1997. The French simply called him “Our Johnny.” However, outside the Francophone zone, Hallyday was virtu-ally unknown.

In a statement, his wife Laeticia said: “Johnny Hallyday has left us.”

Hallyday, whose real name was Jean-Philippe Smet, decided he wanted to be a singer after seeing Elvis Presley on screen

in 1957. Hallyday was nicknamed the French Presley by his numerous fans.

Reacting to the news, French President Emmanuel Macron referenced the title of a recent tribute album by saying: “There is a little bit of Johnny in all of us. Across generations, he carved himself into the lives of French people,” Macron said. “He charmed them through the generosity you saw in his concerts: so epic, so inti-mate, in huge venues, in small spots.”

Heavily infl uenced by Elvis, Hallyday broke from France’s classic “chanson” tradition in the 1950s, and began sing-

ing rock and roll in French. Despite his success at home, he failed to crack the lucrative U.S. or any English-speaking market. The USA Today newspaper once described him as “the greatest rock star you never heard of.”

Hallyday was known for his hard work and almost non-stop touring. But he was also famous for his wild rock star antics, both on and off stage. Heavy partying, drugs, drinking and smoking, as well as fi ve marriages all kept his bad-boy image alive.

HONG KONG actor Shawn Yue Man-lok married Taiwanese supermodel Sarah Wang in a low-key wedding in Mel-

bourne, Australia on Tuesday.In a surprise announcement on Ins-

tagram, the 36-year-old star posted a black and white picture of his wedding, saying that he “met the right person at the right time.”

“Thanking Heaven for arranging the perfect timing for us to meet,” the star wrote in Chinese.

“Thank you for fi lling my world with positive energy, happiness and laughter. My world has become a simpler, happier place because of you. In these 12 months, you have completely changed my life. Thank you for your faith and trust, and thank you for letting me take care of you for the rest of our lives,” he added.

“I promise to bring you happiness. I promise to take care of you. I love you.”

The couple was rumored to be in a relationship since late last year.

The popular actor appeared in “Infer-nal Affairs II” and “III,” alongside Andy Lau and Tony Leung as well as in “Love in a Puff” with Miriam Yeung.
