SD-Agencies Zhang Qian [email protected] EVERY December and January is the high season for outbreaks of flu in Shenzhen. More students have taken sick leave recently, according to several teachers working at schools in Shenzhen. A teacher, surnamed Deng, in Bao’an District, told the Shenzhen Daily that each class in her school has nearly 10 students absent due to flu each day. “The situation in December was even worse than now, and some classes have even more than 20 students absent,” said Deng, who was also infected with the flu and had been on sick leave for the last two weeks. Yang is an English teacher in Longgang District. She said that younger students are more vulnerable to the flu. “The flu since December has been more severe than previous years, and some of my students have suf- fered from repeated fevers after they had recovered and returned to school,” said Yang. It is nearly the end of the semester and the students are about to take their final exams. However, a lot of students are still taking sick leave, said Yang. One teacher, who refused to be named, from a primary school in Longhua District, said yesterday that there are classes suspended at the school because a large pro- portion of students are infected with flu. The number of children seeing doctors at Shenzhen Children’s Hospital has also soared during these two months, said a spokes- person from the hospital. How- ever, since the hospital does not continuously monitor the sick children, it is hard to tell if the kids are suffering from the flu, but most of the children do have a fever. “There are many students, and even me, who are still coughing in the class,” said Deng. The teacher said that schools have been taking measures to prevent more stu- dents from getting the flu, such as sterilizing classrooms and canteen utensils after use. Teachers at Deng’s school have also been required to send messages to the parents of each student to remind them to take preventive measures. Students who have recovered from the flu shall not attend school until 48 hours after recovery, said Deng. Flu causes large number of students to ask for leave THE boss of Shenzhen Yueshen- gang Investment Co. Ltd. is liable for paying the large loans along with the borrower, who is the company’s financial manager, to Shenzhen HAD International Corp. Ltd., according to the final adjudication issued by Shenzhen Intermediate People’s Court. According to the boss of Shenzhen Yueshengang Invest- ment Co. Ltd., surnamed Wu, it was not until she suddenly received a court summons at the end of 2013 that she real- ized the company’s financial manager, surnamed Lin, had borrowed 5.32 million yuan (US$818,748) under the compa- ny’s name from Shenzhen HAD International Corp. Ltd. in July 2012 and then lent it to others. Lin had returned 1.45 mil- lion yuan to the lender, but in September 2013, Lin forged her company’s official seal and Wu’s personal seal to sign a supple- mentary loan contract with the lender, which stated that Lin and her company owed a total of 13.7986 million yuan. In November 2013, as Lin’s borrower had fled, Lin also escaped because she was unable to pay the debt. So the lender filed a lawsuit against Wu, Lin and Shenzhen Yueshengang Investment Co. Ltd. According to the first instance, Bao’an District People’s Court confirmed that the seals were forged and Lin should assume civil compensation. Lin was required to pay the remaining 3.865070 million yuan plus the interest. The lender was unsatisfied and lodged an appeal to Shenzhen Intermediate People’s Court. The court revoked the civil judgment of the first instance and issued a final ruling. According to the intermediate court, because Wu and her com- pany could not provide sufficient evidence, Lin’s acting behavior in signing the loan contract was effective. Wu, Lin and Shen- zhen Yueshengang Investment Co. Ltd. have been ordered to repay 13.7986 million yuan plus the interest.
