Catholic Charities Men's Hostel in Need of MugsIf you have old mugs cluttering up your cupboard please give them to our guests in our emergency homeless shelter. We believe it's much more welcoming to drink from a nice previously loved mug than from a Styrofoam cup, and it’s better for our environment too. We always need mugs. We encourage our guests to choose a mug for themselves to claim as their own and keep with them when they stay with us and to take with them when they leave. All you need to do is drop them off directly at our shelter at 828 Cambie Street, Vancouver, or the John Paul II Pastoral Centre.

Stewardship Reflections“…as a matter of equality your abundance at the present time should supply their want, so that their abundance may supply your want, that

there may be equality.”2 CORINTHIANS 8:14

We are responsible not only for our own lives, but for the lives of those around us. It is important that we not only grow, nurture and share our gifts; but that we also teach our children and encourage others to do the same. This is the communal aspect of our Catholic faith. We are the “Body of Christ”. We are called to be dependent

on each other and not live in isolation.http://archstl.org/stewardship/page/bulletin-inserts

13th Sunday in Ordinary TimeI want to thank parishioners for taking the ME25 survey these

past three weeks. Your feedback is very much appreciated. I will be working out the date when the results of the survey will be made known to everyone. This will involve someone from Gallop Research being here in the parish and interpreting the data for us. As soon as I know the date I will communicate this to everyone. I ask you to keep this in your prayers.

If you notice in the bulletin “Mass Weddings and Civilly Married Couples.” This is the Archbishop’s desire to reach out and assist couples if they’ve been married outside of the Church. For clarity – if a Catholic gets married in another church, or civilly, then their marriage needs to take place in the Catholic Church. The Church has long taught that a Catholic in order to be validly marriage must exchange vows in the presence of a priest, and two witnesses. A Catholic who has exchanged marriage vows outside of the Church (meaning at the Justice of the Peace, or in another church) then that Catholic is not allowed to receive the Holy Eucharist until their situation is rectified in the Church. If you are interested in having your civil marriage take place in the Catholic Church, then please contact myself, or Fr. James. We will do our best to assist you, and to help you ascertain what needs to done. The ceremony can and will be private.

Registrations for RCIA are now being received, for both the English and Cantonese classes. English class will begin on September 13th at 7:00pm and run on Thursday nights. Cantonese class will begin on August 24th at 7:30pm and runs on Friday nights. This is the class that those desiring to become Catholic are required to take. If you know of someone who is seeking baptism into the Catholic Church, please let them know about this and contact the parish. Your email will be directed to either myself (Fr. Bruce-John Hamilton), or Joseph Chiu.

Last Saturday we had our first “Youth Day/Evening” in perhaps many years (maybe it was the first one). Fr. James and his team have worked hard over the past months and it really bore fruits - 107 youth were present from Grades 6 through 12. The evening went very well and from what I’ve heard, it was enjoyed by the youth. You can check out some photos on our parish Instagram account: corpuschristiyvr. If I get more photos I will post them as well.

The Youth event was meant to gather the youth of our parish and this was accomplished. Now we want to propel Youth Ministry in our Parish. There already exists groups, but there is so much more that can be accomplished and there are adults, and young people willing to serve the youth of our parish. I pray that you, young people, will respond and that parents will encourage their children to come out, to be part of the Youth Ministry when we see events being advertised. We have only ourselves to blame if children and teens drift away from God, from Jesus Christ and the Church, if we sit idly by and do nothing when

we could have done something. Pray a lot and support the efforts when you see them.

Let us give thanks to God for the many blessings we have in our Country on this Canada Day. Let us also remember the many, many things we have to pray for – an end to abortion, euthanasia, and now legalized pot. We cannot ignore our blessings, but we also cannot be blind.

Sincerely in Christ

Fr.

如果你留意到告示板“Mass Weddings and Civilly Married Couples.”

Bruce-John Hamilton) —或Joseph Chiu。
