In the UK we were fastidious about preventing foot

Stool classification
Cryptosporidiosis characterised by Acute diarrhoea – watery liquid diarrhoea
But someone recovering from Cryptosporidiosis can continue to carry oocysts in their stools for up to 14 days
Solid faeces in pools
• Scoop the poop and put it where it should be
• Unlikely to be from someone with an acute gastric
illness
• If the operator is not certain of 100% removal
then treat as runny faeces
• Dependent upon the contamination we
recommend closing for say 30mins to allow all
visual evidence to be removed or dissipate
Runny faeces in pools
• If it’s a diarrhoeal type of incident then
suspect crypto
• Most viruses and bacteria killed in seconds
by chlorine not so crypto
• Safest option is to close the pool
• Multi solution – filtraton/coagulation,
superchlorination, UV

Staff competence
Welsh study showed
• Many pools did not have and could not draw
a schematic drawing of the pipework layout
• They did not have appropriate management
of their filter operation
