CSP LEARNING OBJECTIVE Name of student: Quek Yew Kit Student ID no.: S9403926F Name of Project: starringSMU’15 Organisation attached to: People’s Association Youth Movement (Buona Vista) Period of Attachment: 18 July – 2 August 2015 Please describe the nature of the issue/problem that you are attempting to address through this Community Service Project (CSP). starringSMU’15 is a community service project that aims to build community involvement amongst youth in SMU and raise awareness about our beneficiaries such as Swami Home and Kits4Kids which target both the Children and Elderly. Many of the elderly are either disabled or abandoned and struggle to make ends meet. Many children who are mentally challenged or disadvantaged are lacking in interaction and face social stigma. These social issues are a prime target of starringSMU’15 where we hope to address them through our 3 key events: starringCAMP, starringGIVESBACK and starringCARWASH. What do you expect to gain/learn from through your involvement in this Community Service Project (CSP)? I expect to gain insight and awareness about the difficulties that disabled people face doing everyday tasks that we take for granted. I also expect to gain empathy and understanding towards mentally challenged children who face the stigma from society that they are uncontrollable and incurable. Through beneficiary visits where we will conduct home maintenance, pack food for the underprivileged and interact
