MS Physics Specialization: Medical Physics
The Physics Department and the Cleveland Clinic Foundations Radiation Oncology
Department and Radiology Section have collaborated since 1999 to offer the Medical Physicsspecialization. It is the only program of its kind in northeast Ohio. The MS Medical Physics
specialization has received accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of MedicalPhysics Education Programs (CAMPEP) effective January 2012, and it is listed at
http://www.campep.org/campeplstgrad.asp. Along with the University of Toledo and Universityof Cincinnati programs, it is the only other Ohio accredited program. Medical physicists are
highly skilled specialists who apply the concepts and methods of physics to the diagnosis andtreatment of human disease. Among other duties, they test the performance of medical imaging
systems and help deliver radiation therapy to cancer patients. The specialization is aimed atattracting trained physicists and getting them into the medical physics workforce.
Admission Information
To be considered for admission to the Master of Science in Physicswith specialization inMedical Physics, applicants must meet the College of Graduate Studies admission
requirements and have an undergraduate degree in physics or other areas of science orengineering (e.g., chemistry, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical
engineering, or nuclear engineering) with physics education equivalent to a minor in physics. All students applying for the MS in Physics program with specialization in medical physics
must take the GRE general test: verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and analyticalwriting. Students whose undergraduate training is not in the United States must also take the
TOEFL exam and score above 600 (paper version) and the Test of Spoken English (TSE)and score above 300.
Review of completed applications will start on Feb 1st.
