ADJUSTABLE CHOKESA long time standard for safety and reliability in the oilfield, Thornhill Craver UNIBOLT Stem and Seat Adjustable Chokes are designed for high performance in critical applications such as gas wells with high pressure drops, abrasive flow and corrosive conditions.The Thornhill Craver UNIBOLT Choke design is field proven in a wide range of applications. Available with alloy steel or 12% chrome stainless steel body, it is provided with a ring-groove or taper-type seal depending on size and pressure. Adjustable choke styles are standard, Long Nose Heater, Force Balanced and Steam. Engineered for heavy duty, maintenance-free performance. The Thornhill Craver UNIBOLT Choke is commonly selected for a number of applications, including: Production Manifolds Wellheads Heaters Critical Services Well Testing Well Clean-up

The UNIBOLT coupling between the body and yoke is a unique design feature that ensures superior reliability and safety over other methods. The connection is made by means of the UNIBOLT interlocking shelf design rather than by conventional threads or flanges.

FEATURES AND BENEFITSCOUPLING vs. THREADS FOR SAFETY The UNIBOLT coupling between the body and yoke provides a higher degree of safety than conventional threads or flanges due to the greater amount of metal in shear. There are no threaded or flanged connections between component parts and the adjustable choke may be dismantled quickly for change of stem seats.

ADJUSTABLE CHOKESSTYLESSIMPLE CONVERSION TO POSITIVE CHOKE A blanking plug may be substituted for the yoke bonnet assembly to effect simple field conversion to a positive choke. EASILY AUTOMATED The UNIBOLT Adjustable Choke is easily automated with pneumatic actuation. Yoke adapter assemblies for Fisher actuators are a standard design. EASY MAINTENANCE Only common tools are required. ACME Power Threads on the reduced diameter of the stem facilitate insertion through the packing assembly. Chevron-type packing, compounded with Teflon requires no lubrication. The stem seat and gasket can easily be removed for inspection and replacement if necessary. For added safety, the stem can only be removed through the bottom of the yoke hub assembly. STEM RING FOR SAFETY A no-go ring is an integral part of the tip end to prevent separation of the stem and the bonnet assembly in the event that thread deterioration causes the stem to release in an upward motion. VARIETY OF END CONNECTIONS AVAILABLE Threaded; UNIBOLT Line Pipe or butt weld; flanged API or ASME connections are available. Chokes may be ordered with combined end connections and other manufacturers end connections are also available. Typically, other than threaded, the most economical is a choke body with UNIBOLT connections. TWO SEAL DESIGN UTILIZED The ring-groove seal is a mechanical-type seal requiring tightening of the unit to effect a seal. The taper-type seal is self energizing under pressure in both directions and secures between the yoke and body. On both seal types, the yoke member pilot fits snugly into the body, centers the stem in the seal and minimizes vibration. PLUGLOK BLEEDER PLUG FOR SAFETY AND PRESSURE RELEASE Every UNIBOLT Choke comes with the PLUGLOK safety system. The bleeder plug functions to indicate unexpected pressure as well as a means to relieve trapped body pressure. The bleeder plug insures safety because it must be removed before the nut member can be unlocked to open the choke for maintenance. STANDARD ADJUSTABLE CHOKE Stem and Seat Adjustable Chokes are designed for high performance in critical applications such as gas wells with high pressure drops, abrasive flow and corrosive conditions.

LONG NOSE HEATER ADJUSTABLE CHOKE When installed on an indirect heater, with the outlet end of the elongated choke body fastened directly to the tube bundle, the choke seat area is completely surrounded by the hot water which is primarily used to heat the tubes. The heat generated in this manner has a beneficial effect in minimizing the severe refrigerating action resulting from metering high pressure natural gas. FORCE BALANCED ADJUSTABLE CHOKE Designed to handle high-pressure, high-volume applications, it employs an innovative force-balanced arrangement which allows for very low operating torque. ADJUSTABLE STEAM CHOKE Designed for use in steam injection and other high-temperature applications up to 800F (427C).

They are provided with a ring-groove or taper-type seal depending on size and pressure. Bean sizes can be specified from 1/64 in. to 2 in. (0.40 mm to 50.8 mm). Engineered for heavy duty, maintenance-free performance. POSITIVE CHOKESEASY MAINTENANCE Only common tools are required and there are no multiple bolts to loosen and remove. Parts are interchangeable and the seal ring is reusable. Installation, parts replacement and other field work are simple. VARIETY OF END CONNECTIONS AVAILABLE Threaded; UNIBOLT line pipe and butt weld; flanged API and ASME connections are available. Chokes may be ordered with combined end connections, and other manufacturers' end connections are also available. Typically, other than threaded, the most economical method is a choke body with UNIBOLT connections. FLEXIBLE FLOW BEAN OFFERING Beans are available in alloy steel or 12% chrome stainless steel. Beans with ceramic or tungsten carbide inserts are also available. UNIBOLT X beans are offered in orifice sizes less than 14/64 in. (5.56 mm) for more precise flow control in 10% increments (5% increments available between orifice sizes 6/64 in. (2.38 mm) and 14/64 in. (5.56 mm)).
