Culture Night Limerick happens because many people share a

vision and enthusiasm for enjoying, celebrating and promoting

creativity and culture. The following booklet gives a taste of the wide range of people and institutions that make it happen

across Limerick. #WeAreCulture. This hash tag became a powerful statement of the role that culture and creativity plays

in Limerick and a recognition that culture is created by and

belongs to all of us. In Limerick, culture is not simple, it has many layers. Aware of that, we look at Limerick through the lens of multiplicity and celebrate the variety of identities, cultures,

histories, landscapes and forms of expression that co-exist side

by side giving our region its uniqueness. Limerick’s rich history, culture and strong heritage remain ever present in its structures,

streets and people, from the historic towns of Kilmallock and

medieval village of Askeaton, to the archaeological site at

Lough Gur and Limerick’s churches which contain a rich cultural heritage of the work of such craftspeople as Wilhemina Geddes and Harry Clarke, a legacy of Ireland’s position as a centre for excellence in the design and manufacture of the highest quality

of stained glass. There are 45 new or extended library branches that continue to stay relevant in a changing world. There is a vibrant alternative and independent live cultural scene in

Limerick, led by individuals, and communities of interest and a

myriad of innovative cultural organisations and amateur groups

who hold culture as an important form of expression.

Come out and enjoy Culture Night 2018.
