According to report released by global startupecosystem map Startupblink, India was ranked 37thout of 125 countries in global startup ecosystem in2017.

Startupblink is a global startup ecosystem map withtens of thousands of registered startups, coworkingspaces, and accelerators.

The list, measuring startup ecosystem strength andactivity, was topped by the United States followed bythe United Kingdom.

West Bengal Launches Rupashree scheme formarriage of poor girls

The state government of West Bengal introduced anew scheme called Rupashree in order to providemarriage assistance to girls coming from economicallyweaker families with a budgetary allocation of Rs 1500crore.

The scheme proposes to extend one-time financialassistance worth Rs 25,000 to the family of the girlwhose annual income is up to Rs 1.5 lakh. Themonetary assistance will be provided at the time ofmarriage after the girl has attained the age of 18 years.

China will unveil the worlds longest cross-seabridge, connecting Hong Kong, Macau and mainlandChina.

More Details about Worlds longest sea bridge in China:

This cross-sea bridge will be 55km-long and six lanes wide,comprising of four tunnels and four artificial islands.

It is a multi-billion dollar project, which took seven yearsto complete.

It is reported that quantity of steel used in building thisbridge is more than 60 Eiffel Towers in Paris, France andexperts from 14 countries have been involved in itsconstruction.

The bridge will reduce the commute time betweenmainland China, Macau and Hong Kong to half. It isestimated that nearly 40000 vehicles will be passing overthis bridge on daily basis, including shuttle buses runningat 10-minute intervals.

Ola Acquires Ticketing App Firm Ridlr

Ride-hailer Ola has acquired Mumbai-based Ridlr, anend-to-end public transport ticketing and commutingapp. The acquisition will complement Olas efforts tointegrate its mobility platform with publictransportation infrastructure.

Founded in 2012, Ridlr enables users to search andbook public transport options on their mobile phones.

Vineet Joshis appointment as D-G of NTA:

Currently, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)conducts Joint Engineering Entrance (JEE) Exam, NationalEligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), Central TeacherEligibility Test (twice a year) UGCs National Eligibility Test(twice a year) and the entrance test for Jawahar NavodayaVidyalayas. These exams/tests are in addition to CBSEs ownboard exams.

With the creation of National Testing Agency (NTA), CBSEand All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) will berelieved from conducting the above stated exams/tests.

Setting up of NTA was announced by Finance MinistryArun Jaitley while presenting Union Budget 2017-18.Subsequently, on November 10, 2017, Union Cabinetchaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, cleared aproposal for creation of NTA.

Structrue of NTA: An eminent educationist appointed byUnion Human Resources Development Ministry will be theChairperson of NTA. The CEO of NTA will be the DirectorGeneral, and will be appointed by the government.Director General will be assisted by nine verticals headedby academicians and experts. NTA will also have a Boardof Governors comprising members from user institutions.

Vineet Joshi is a 1992-batch Indian Administrative Service(IAS) officer of the Manipur cadre, and has beenappointed to the post of D-G, NTA for five years.
