We invite you, your sailing ship and your crew to the 19th annualBaltic Sail. By participating, you have the unique chance of bringing the culture and customs of yourcountry to the Baltic Sail events.Visitors will be impressed by theold, majestic sailing ships and by the welcoming hospitality. Your participation will help us to preserve and promote sailingships as a piece of the Euro peanmaritime heritage. Meet oldfriends during the harbour festivals and make new friendswith trainees, other crews andvisitors from all over the world.

The Baltic Sail aims to support traditional sailingas an European maritimecultural good, to develop it into a trademark of theBaltic Sail region.

Baltic Sail target is to esta blish a permanent network for Maritime Tourism in the Baltic Searegion.

Klaipeda – tourists and captains of the world, set sails to Klaipeda!Klaipeda is the port of ships putting in andtaking the sea, stormy winds and happypeople, each year inviting to uniqueevents. People‘s love for the sea and shipswashed by its waves, present fabulousspirit to Klaipėda. The only Lithuanian har-bour city and a famous nationwide The SeaFestival will hospitably open the sea-gate!

The Sea Festival is the biggest annual event in the city of Klaipėda with deep-rooted andrich nautical traditions – the event which for the first time was organised in 1934. The mostawaited celebration of the year comes on the last weeked of July. The festival is the bestknown and most favourite event in Klaipeda which has been visited for over 0,5 millionpeople from Lithuania and abroad. Klaipedians are literally fallen in love with the view of historical sailing ships mooring justa stone-throw from the very center of the Old Town. Everybody is impatient to offer shipsand noisy crowds of visitors a truly warm welcome. A unique combination of culture,nature and history at your choice will make the three days at the port fly as one. The contemporary Klaipeda is the third largest Lithuanian city and one of the most dyna-mically developing cities of the country, for international cooperation bestowed with thehighest European awards. Its largest port on the Eastern Baltic is surrounded by unriva-led nature: part of the city territory belongs to the UNESCO natural heritage site.

Rostock – Hanseatic flair and sailing traditionsRostock is an attractive Hanseatic cityand famous for historical treasures in thecity centre. Modern architecture is care - fully combined with Gothic brick stonechurches, convents, Hanseatic granariesand merchant houses. The oldest univer -sity in the Baltic Region is a permanentsource of innovative thinking, economicprogress and cultural life. At the seaside

resort Rostock-Warnemünde locals and tourists enjoy the sandy beach, maritime flair fromthe lighthouse to sailing boats, fishing cutters and amazing cruise liners in summer. Everyyear during the second weekend of August the Hanse Sail Rostock warmly welcomes sailorsand visitors from all over the world. Barques, brigs, schooners, cogs and windjammers arethe main actors of an unique mari time spectacle – Hanse Sail Rostock. Nobody can evade thespecial romantic charisma of this fantastic rendezvous of traditional ships. Take advantage ofyour visit and discover the living maritime history at the Maritime Museum aboard the“Traditionsschiff Typ Frieden” on the banks of the River Warnow.

Karlskrona – the archipelagotownKarlskrona is the capital of the countyBlekinge, situated on 33 islands with amaritime history and many forms of navalactivity. The fascinating atmosphere hasalso impressed UNESCO and added thecity to the World Heritage List.Visit the annual Archipelago Festival thelast week of July, a festivity that will holdthe interest of an entire family with old andnew maritime culture, food and drink from the region, children’s activities, and guidedtours out of the ordinary. Discover Sweden’s southernmost archipelago with a string of1650 islands and skerries, just waiting to be discovered by boat, ferry or car. Enjoy theArchipelago tour boats and investigate exciting places together. See Drottningskär’s cita-del or Kungsholm’s-fortress with its circular harbor. Gdansk – welcome to one of the oldest Baltic citiesGdansk is one of the oldest Baltic cities witha thousand year old traditions of Europeanculture and maritime history. Gdansk owesits fortune to its seaside location. Ships fromall parts of Europe are greeted by the histo-rical port of Gdansk. The trade routes fromthe east to the west and from the north tothe south of Europe crossed here. Discoverand experience the lovingly restored speci-

mens of the historic port: the tall granaries, the majestic structure of the Mediaeval Cranesqueezing its food in between the narrow facades of the neighbouring town – houses, thesecret-whispering shadows of the waterfacing gateways – this is the panorama which un -winds itself to the eyes of the sailors entering the millenniumold Gdansk. This is an excep-tional place where sailors come back again and again. Sail then: into the winds and Gdansk.Step into maritime history at the National Maritime Museum in Gdansk – a national institu-tion of culture, the largest maritime museum in Poland and one of the biggest in Europe.

Nysted – experience theHaikutter FestivalThe harbour is the heart and soul ofNysted. It is lo cated at the far end ofNysted Nor cove, with beautiful views ofthe Femern Belt, Rødsand offshore windfarm, as well as the lovely, old markettown and Aalholm Castle. You really get asense of history in Nysted, with the beauti -ful, well-preserved old houses. During the summer, various events takeplace in Nysted. I.e. Nysted is host of the most beautiful medieval festival in Denmark,just be fore the Haikutter Festival. The Haikutter Regatta from Nysted to Rostock will beon the final day of the Haikutter festival. Nysted is located on the island of Lolland, just next to Falster. Both islands are surroun-ded by sea and straits, and with more than 600 km of seaside, you will find clean bea-ches and charming harbours that will be the perfect setting for your visit. From here,cycling is a good option if you want to get out and explore the surrounding area. Youwill find good cycling trails that bring you through beautiful nature, past historical manorhouses and small cosy market towns. When you get hungry, Lolland and Falster, as beingthe pantry of Denmark, offers you culinary experiences and local ingredients.

Riga – the heart of the BalticCountriesRiga, the capital of Latvia and heart of theBaltic States is located on the shores of theDaugava River where it flows into the BalticSea. In 1282 Riga became the member ofthe Hanseatic League, the most importanttrade organization in the Northern Europe.Ever since Riga has been a dynamic portcity on the trade route between theWestern Europe and the East. The Riga Bay is a gentle sailing area inviting to enjoy long summer days and warm nightson endless sandy beaches. The newly built Riga City Yacht Club is offering modern bert-hing amenities as well as beautiful view of Riga skyline across the Daugava River. Riga City Festival is celebrated on the third weekend of August. This is the largest annu-al event of the city attended by more than 200 000 guests of all the generations from allthe parts of Latvia and abroad. The festival lasts for three days and offers a colorful cul-ture and entertainment program in the streets and parks, on the Daugava River and inthe sky above the city.Riga Sailing Festival is an official event of the Riga City Festival. Traditional ships and sai-lors are welcome to join the Riga City Festival celebrations.
