Working reasonably well AMR systems on GSM/ GPRS

Mostly from Secure Meters & Genus Majority on GPRS, some on GSM

More than 8000 meters read at present GPRS throughputs better than GSM, but re-runs required at times

Problem Area RMU (Feeder) Automation on GPRS/ CDMA

    ABB Areva Schneider

Over 3500 Nos 11 kV & 6 kV RMUs commissioned in CESC network over the last 3 years.

Installation of RMUs has reduced restoration time on HT faults to < 1 hour:3-way and 4-way Ring Main UnitsIsolators not CBs in legs: load-break, fault-makeFault Passage Indicators (FPIs) fitted on all legsRestoration time of 11 kV & 6 kV Feeders already reduced from 4 hours to less than 1 hour by installing & manually operating the RMUs

Automation will further reduce restoration time to 15 minutes:Status of FPIs to be transmitted to SCADA/ DMSRetro-fitting of Motors to remotely operate Isolators through SCADA/ DMS. 24V DC Motors used.IEC-870-5-104 protocol

Issues:In CESC, all RMUs installed outdoorson roadsidesPoor, unreliable cellular data communications

Problem Area RMU (Feeder) Automation on GPRS/ CDMA

    Sample throughputs shown

Continuous efforts by all our partners to fine-tune system/ communication network

Dis-satisfied end users: we have put large-scale deployment on hold till more reliable solutions are available

Problem Area RMU (Feeder) Automation on GPRS/ CDMA

We are automating RMU clusters where possible on Fibre Optic cables.

This will be possible only in limited locations.
