La scelta del tipo di diamante più adatto viene effettuata tra un vastissimo assortimento di grane sinteti-che e naturali, rivestite in metallo, vaporizzate e non rivestite, a forma arrotondata o irregolare.

Thanks to its chemical properties and hardness, diamond is particularly well suited forgrinding hard metals, hard metal and steel combinations, sprayed and sintered alloys,ceramic, porcelain, majolica, silicon, ferrite, semiconductors, graphite, electrocarbides,natural and artificial stones, fibreglassreinforced resin, duroplast, glass, quartz, refractory materials, polycrystalline diamond (PCD) and polycrystalline CBN (PCBN).Natural or synthetic diamonds are chosen for their inherent properties and may be metal-clad, uncovered, vaporized and round or irregular in shape depending on theapplication.

A heat-resistant synthetic product, CBN is mainly used for grinding the following materials: treated steel, cast iron, spring steel, steel for concrete, high-alloy steel, hot orcold working steel, HSS, bearing steel and stellite. Korngröße / Grana / Grit / La granulométrieDie eingesetzte Korngröße bestimmt weitestgehend die Schleifleistung und die erreichte Oberflächengüte. Bei konstantem Karatinhaltsteigt mit feinerem Korn die Anzahl der Kornspitzen auf der Belagoberfläche, die Scheibe wirkt subjektiv dichter, härter und wenigerschleiffreudig. Um Spanräume am Schleifbelag zu schaffen ist es daher notwendig, die Konzentration auf die Korngröße abzustim-men, um ein zu dichtes Bepacken mit Körnung zu verhindern.Die Korngrößen werden je nach Ursprungsland unterschiedlichbezeichnet. Der europäische Standard (FEPA) sieht eine Größenbezeichnung nach dem mittleren Korndurchmesser vor. Danebenwird die amerikanische Bezeichnung in US-mesh sowie die Bezeichnung nach DIN 848-65 verwendet. Nachstehende Tabelle ermög-licht die problemlose Übersetzung unterschiedlicher Korngrößenbezeichnungen.

La scelta della grana viene effettuata in base all’asportazione e al grado di rugosità desiderate. A parità di caratura il numero dellepunte diamantate taglienti presenti sulla superficie della fascia è maggiore per grane fini, quindi la mola risulta essere più compatta,più dura e meno malleabile. Pertanto è necessario trovare la giusta combinazione granulometria-concentrazione per permettere loscarico dei trucioli generati dall’azione di taglio e impedire che la mola si impasti. La granulometria viene classificata in base al paesedi provenienza. Lo standard europeo FEPA prevede la classificazione in base al diametro medio della grana. Molto diffuse sono anchele tabelle USA-mesh e DIN 848-65. La tavola che segue permette di confrontare le diverse classificazioni:

The grit is chosen according to the quantity of material that has to be removed and theroughness you want to reach. Carats being equal, a fine grit presents a larger number ofcutting edges on the rim; therefore the wheel is harder, denser and less malleable. It istherefore necessary to find the right combination grit-size/concentration, to allow dispersion of the chips; to avoid chip build up, or clogging. The grit is designed accordingto its country of origin.The european FEPA Standard classifies the grit according to itsaverage diameter. The charts USA-mesh and DIN 848-65 are also very popular.The following chart allows a comparison of the different classifications:

Le choix de la granulométrie est fait selon la quantité de matière à enlever et selon la rugosité demandée. A caratage égal, le nom-bre de grains de diamant coupants présents sur la périphérie du bandeau est supérieur pour les grains fins. La meule est donc pluscompacte, plus dure et moins malléable. Par contre, il est nécessaire de trouver la juste combinaison entre la concentration et la gra-nulométrie afin de permettre l’évacuation des copeaux et empêcher que la meule ne s’encrasse. La classification de la granulométrieest différente selon le pays de production. La norme standard européenne FEPA prévoit la classification selon le diamètre moyen dugrain. On utilise aussi souvent les normes USA-mesh et DIN 848-65. Le tableau suivant permet de comparer les différentes classifi-cations.

Bei der Wahl der Korngröße sind die drei Richtgrößen, Abschliffleistung, Standzeit und Oberflächengüte abzuwägen. DieAbschliffleistung und die Standzeit richten sich beim Pendelschleifen nach der Zustellung, beim Tiefschleifen nach derVorschubgeschwindigkeit und sind durch die Korngröße vorgegeben. Der Kornüberstand (= Eindringtiefe) beträgt bei optimal einge-stellter Schleifscheibenqualität 1/5 bis 1/8 des Korndurchmessers.Bei definierten Oberflächenanforderungen kann nachstehende Tabelle als Hilfe zur Korngrößenauswahl herangezogen werden.Gleichzeitig wird versucht, unterschiedliche Rauhigkeitsmeßgrößen gegenüberzustellen.

La grana viene scelta in base a tre parametri: asportazione, durata e grado di rugosità del pezzo. L’asportazione e la durata dipendono dalla regolazione nelle lavorazioni pendolari e, in quelle a tuffo, dalla profondità di passata e dalla velocità di avanzamento.In una mola utilizzata in maniera ottimale la profondità di penetrazione è pari a 1/5-1/8 della dimensione della grana. Conoscendo larugosità richiesta si può scegliere la granulometria da utilizzare mediante la seguente tabella:

Three factors affect the choice of grit: quantity of material to be removed, surface-finishand wheel life. Removal and wheel-life depend on the adjustment when swing-grinding,and on pass and feed depth when plunge-grinding. A wheel used properly shows a penetration depth equal to 1/5 - 1/8 of the grit dimension. If the level of roughness needed is known, it is possible to choose the rightgrit using the following chart:

Le choix du grain est fait suivant trois paramètres: I’importance de l’enlèvement matière, la dureté de la pièce à usiner, ainsi que larugosité recherchée. L’enlèvement et la dureté dépendent du réglage en opération pendulaire, de la profondeur de passe et du dépla-cement dans les opérations en plongée. La profondeur de pénétration est égale à 1/5 - 1/8 de la taille du grain, dans des conditionsnormales d’utilisation de la meule. Die Konzentrationsangabe beschreibt den Diamant- oder CBN-Gehalt des Schleifbelages und ist eines seiner wichtigsten Qualitäts-merkmale. Üblicherweise werden mit steigenden Konzentrationen höhere Schleifleistungen erzielt, die Scheibe wirkt härter, d. h.verschleißfester. Die korrekt gewählte Bindung hält das Schleifkorn bis zum optimalen Kornverschleiß im Bindungsverband. Beim Ansteigen desSchleifdruckes infolge Schneidenabstumpfung wird das Korn freigegeben. Diese ideale Bindungseinstellung ist Grundlage für denSelbstschärfeffekt unserer Schleifwerkzeuge. Optisch erkennbar durch den Überstand der Kornspitzen über der Bindungsebene mitgleichzeitiger Ausbildung von Stützkeilen (Kometenschweife) hinter dem Schleifkorn. Eine zu geringe Kornhaltekraft bewirkt einen zuhohen Scheibenverschleiß infolge vorzeitiger Kornfreigabe bei gleichzeitiger grober Werkstückoberbläche.

Eine zu hohe Kornhaltekraft hingegen erhöht den Schleifdruck und die Temperatur, die Scheibe setzt sich zu, verschmiert und ver-liert die Abtragsleistung. Um die speziellen Bindungseigenschaften voll wirksam einsetzen zu können, wird die Auswahl aus folgen-den Bindungsangeboten getroffen.

Nella mola la grana di diamante o di CBN viene agglomerata con resina, ceramica o metallo. La scelta tra uno di questi leganti dipen-de da:

• proprietà del legante a trattenere la grana• rilascio della grana consumata• facilità di autoravvivatura• tenuta della mola e capacità di adattamento

del modulo di elasticità al pezzo da lavorare

Il legante appropriato mantiene la grana ancorata alla mola finché questa non ha subito un consumo ottimale. Quando il grano diven-ta ottuso e perde la sua taglienza viene scalzato dal legante lasciando posto a nuovi grani più taglienti. Questo sistema di agglomerazione dei leganti da noi prodotti è la base per ottenere un effetto autoravvivante nelle nostre mole e si evidenzia attraverso i taglienti a forma di "coda di cometa" dietro al singolo grano. Una tenutainsufficiente del legante causa un consumo rapido della mola dovuto ad un rilascio precoce della grana. Al contrario, una tenutaeccessiva del legante provoca pressioni di lavoro elevate e surriscaldamento: la mola si impasta e non taglia più. I leganti vengonosuddivisi come segue:

The diamond and CBN grinding wheels are manufactured using resin, ceramic or metalbonds. The choice of the bond depends on:

• bond holding properties• release of the worn grit• easiness of self-dressing• wheel holding, shock absorbing, elasticity• heat resistance

The correct bond holds the grit until it is optimally worn. When the grit becomes blunt andloses its sharpness the bond releases it and gives way to new, sharper grits. This idealbond agglomeration is the basis of the self-dressing effect of our wheels, easily recogni-sed through the comet-tail-shaped cutting edges behind each grit. Insufficient bond hol-ding causes high wheel wear because the grits are released too quickly on coarse surfa-ces. On the contrary, excessive holding generates high temperature and pressure: thewheel clogs and loses its free cutting ability. Bonds are designated as follows:

Les meules diamant et CBN sont agglomérées soit avec de la résine, de la céramique ou du métal. Le choix du liant dépend de:

• la capacité du liant à retenir le grain• l’évacuation du grain usé• la facilité de l’auto-avivage• la tenue de la meule et la capacité d’adaptation

Un bon liant maintient le grain ancré dans la meule jusqu’à ce qu’il ait subit une usure optimale. Quand le grain devient obtus et perdsa capacité de coupe, il se déchausse du liant laissant ainsi sa place à de nouveaux grains plus agressifs. Cést avec ce systèmed’agglomération de nos liants, que l’on obtient un effet d’auto-avivage de nos meules qui est reconnaissable par la coupe des grainsde forme "queue de comètes", basée à l’arrière du grain même. Une tenue insuffisante du liant provoque une consommation rapidede la meule à cause d’un relâchement du grain sur une grande surface. Au contraire, une tenue excessive du liant provoque des pres-sions de travail élevées et une surchauffe, la meule ne s’encrasse et ne coupe plus. Les liants sont subdivisés comme suit:

Kunstharzbindungen / Leganti resinoidi / Resinoid bonds / Les liants résinoïdesAls Bindemittel werden Kunststoffe mit unterschiedlichen Eigenschaften eingesetzt. Üblicherweise werden Phenol-FormaldehydKondensationsprodukte und Polymide verwendet. Hohe Abtragsleistungen, geringe Wärmeentwicklung und daraus resultierendekurze Schleifzeiten sind Vorteile gegenüber den anderen Bindungssystemen, sodaß über 50 % der verwendeten Schleifwerkzeugemit dieser Bindung ausgeführt sind. Das Verschleißverhalten unserer Bindungen wird durch gezielte Kunstharzmodifikation undZugabe von schleifaktiven Substanzen an die gegebenen Einsatzparameter angepaßt. Eine umfassende Reihe unterschiedlicherBindungen ermöglicht die Auswahl der jeweils wirksamsten.

Per la preparazione di questi leganti vengono usati componenti aventi diverse caratteristiche. Normalmente si impiegano prodotti abase di fenolo-formaldeide o resine poli-immidiche. Elevata asportazione, taglio a freddo, tempi di lavorazione ridotti sono i vantaggi rispetto agli altri tipi di agglomerante e fanno sì che più del 50 % degli utensili abrasivi attualmente in uso siano prodotti conquesto legante. Esso viene scelto e modificato o integrato in base alle esigenze di lavorazione. Una vasta gamma di leganti ci consente la scelta di quello più adatto in base alle diverse applicazioni.

These bonds are prepared with synthetic materials of various characteristics. Productsbased on phenol-formaldehyde, resins and polyimide. High removal, dry grinding andshort grinding times are the advantages of this bond: more than 50 % of the abrasivetools used today are made with this bond. The bond type is chosen and modified or integrated according to the working requirements. A wide range of bonds allows the opti-mum choice for individual applications.

Pour la préparation de ces liants, il faut utiliser des matières artificielles avec diverses caractéristiques. Normalement, nousemployons des produits à base de phénol-formaldehyde, de résine et de polymide. Avec ce type de liant, il y a plusieurs avantagestels que: un enlèvement de matière élevé, une coupe froide et un gain de temps pour la rectification.Plus de 50 % des outils abrasifs actuels sont fabriqués avec ce liant.
