What is a digital or smart port§ Smart Port
• Is eco-friendly port that may optimize logistics flow automatically and autonomously and utilize energy efficiently using 4th generation technology such as Automation, AI, IoT, ICT, etc.
• Possible to improve productivity compared with the existing ports through port facilities, infrastructure, operation system as well as unmanned automation and eco-friendly environments of the related facilities
§ Needs
§ Possible to provide stable port service due to manage goods moving and flow by remote control
§ Possible to generate economic benefits long-termly
§ Possible to transform to eco-friendly port due to minimize pollutant emission
§ Possible to prevent accident of safe
§ Possible to reduce cost with port efficiency

What is a digital or smart port§ Environments become changing
• Ports are complex operational environments comprised of different stakeholders
• Wants to maximize efficiencies for supply chain
• Port authorities are taking a more active role in optimizing operations
• By redefining the mission and role of each stage of the vessel visit, ports can significantly improve their efficiency, security and environmental impact.
§ improving operations management through optimization
• Pilots, line men, tugs, and other vessel services can optimize their operations through a focus on collaborative information sharing
• To manage congestion, create business value and increase a port’s competitiveness, the collaborative sharing of data is critical and will enhance port operational excellence and quality of service
• ultimately leading to the “Digital Port”

Features and benefits§ Main Features
• The combination of technology and collecting/distributing data and information to manage operations in-to, inside and out from a port;
• Information sharing with operators, the whole community, and all stakeholders public and private;
• The integration with the surrounding Smart Territory (City, Region, Country) and with Smart Transport Infrastructures (Roads, Rails, Rivers);
§ The main benefits are the following:
• Speeds up the transit response time of goods through ports operations;
• Reduces costs to handle goods;
• Speeds the response time of stakeholders to their customers;
• Reduces the usage of paper flow distributing information electronically;
• Improves track and trace efficiency;
• More efficiency, lower transit time, higher integration with third parties

A Port Community System ?
• is a neutral and open electronic platform enabling intelligent
and secure exchange of information between public and
private stakeholders in order to improve the competitive
position of the sea and air ports’ communities.
• Optimizes, manages and automates port and logistics
processes through a single submission of data and
connecting transport and logistics chains
Port Community Systems can, and will, play a major role as
Countries move towards the Single Window environment;
will be working together to provide expert opinion on proposed
new regulation and contribute to the harmonization and
coordination of reporting formalities, processes and
procedures

Why apply technology to Smart Port
§ IoT, cloud computing and ubiquitous network connectivity
are driving digital transformation in sea ports
§ Digital applications can play a central role in a large
number of port and shipping operations, from logistics
management to improving cargo activities
§ The first step to true smart ports, incorporating insight
driven solutions and internet of things (IoT) enabled
applications.
Germany
§ Hamburg Port Authority (HPA)
• has adopted an IoT-based cloud communications platform to
schedule operations, from telling ships where and what time to
dock to notifying lorries and cranes of their allotted spaces
• Data from across the port is continually consolidated and
analyzed
• Smart tracking using software and sensors
• gives HPA a bird’s eye view of what is happening across the port
in real time, flagging up traffic congestion or when bridges need
to be raised
United Kingdom§ Tilbury’s London Container Terminal
• started using a fully-integrated Vehicle Booking System (VBS) mobile app designed specifically for the terminal’s haulers
• Enables haulers to make bookings and check the state of a container remotely on their smartphones
• Offers real time data on container shipments including voyage schedules
Canada§ The Montreal Port Authority (MPA)
• Developed an app that will reduce pollution, while enhancing efficiencies, by optimizing truck routes and cutting congestion to and from terminals
• Information captured via a combination of Bluetooth, RFID technologies and license plate readers is sent to drivers in real time
• The advanced Trucking PORTal Web-based application: reducing wait times and greenhouse gas emissions on port territory
