    Brief Industrial Profile of ShahjahanpurDistrict

    1. General Characteristics of the District

    Shahjahanpur is founded in 1647 named for the Mughal EmperorShahjahan. Shahjahanpur district is a part of Bareilly Division in UttarPradesh of India. As per Government notification it was established in 1813by the British Government. Previously, it was a part of Bareilly district.Geographically the main town is Shahjahanpur city which is its headquarter.Shahjahanpur district is one of the historical districts of Uttar Pradesh in therepublic of India. Shahjahanpur town is also known as Shaheedon Ki

    August, 1925 the British treasury wasrobbed near Kakori Railway Station. On 26th December, 1925 forty personswere arrested in this Kakori conspiracy case from all over India. Freedomfighter Pandit Ram Prasad Bismil, Thakur Rosan Singh, Banarsi Lal, Lala HarGovind, Prem Krishna Khanna, Indu Bhushan Mitra, Ram Dutta Shukla,Madan Lal and Ram Ratan Shukla among them were from Shahjahanpurdistrict. Murari Lal Gupta with a fake name of Murari Sharma head alsoactively participated in the train robbery, he went undergound and could nottraced out by the Police till the end of the case. His son Damodar SwaroopGupta became a famous revolutionary poet with the pen name of Vidhrohi.Shahjahanpur also known for its Kalin Udyog (Carpet Industry) as well as forSarrafa Bazar (jewellery Market). It is city where Ganga Jamuni cultureflourishes for a long time. People of all community use to live in a verycordial manner. Total population of district Shahjahanpur is 30,02,376(Census 2011).

    1.1 Location & Geographical Area:

    Shahjahanpur district lies between 27035 N latitude and 79037 Nlongitude. It has an average elevation of 194 metres (600 feet) from sealevel. It is bounded on North Wet by Bareilly district, on north by Pilibhitdistrict, in the east district Kheri, in the sourth district Hardoi in the southwest district Farrukhabad and in the west district Badaun. The totalgeographical area of the district is 4575Km2.

    1.2 Topography:

    Land of district Shahjahanpur is plains and fertile. Land of districtShahjahanpur on the side of the river bank is low and other side it iscomparatively high side of land is called Bangar and low side is called

    khadar. The north side land of tehsil Puvayan as is domat land. Land in thewest side of the district is comparatively very low due to land erosion of therivers. Due to this reason at the time of rainfall the area become flooded.In the Block Kaur, Khutar, Nigohi & Jaitpur land is domat and matiyar. Inthe district water level is 20 to 25 below.

    1.3 Availability of Minerals.

    In the district Shahjahanpur minerals availability are local sand, localclay and local bricks clay and is used in civil construction work.

    1.4 FOREST

    Shahjahanpur district reports a very low proportion of area is underforest. The total area under forest 10499 hectares is much less as comparedto states average. In this district the trees like Shisham, Arjuna,Kanjikhair, Saagaun, Neem, Eucalyptus, Babool, Mango and Jamun trees arefound in sufficient numbers.

    1.5 Administrative set up.

    District Shahjahanpur is a part of Bareilly division in Uttar Pradesh.District Shahjahanpur has been divided into four sub-division called asTehsils. The district revenue administration is headed by the DistrictCollector (also known as District Magistrate) with office at the Collectorateand these tehsils are under the charge of Sub-Divisional Magistrates. In thedistrict Saharanpur, there are 15 development block, 922 Gram Panchayatand out of 2331 revenue villages there are 2080 inhabited villages and 251uninhabited villages. There are 11 Nagar Palika and 124 Nagar Panchayat.The law and order administration is jointly coordinated by the DistrictMagistrate & the Superintendent of Police.
