The Sax Factory is a nine-piece band comprised of five saxophones and rhythm section. Just one half of the Jazz Factory Orchestra, the band delivers a full, robust and swinging sound that belies its smaller size. With arrangements written expressly for this instrumentation, the band presents music in a variety of jazz styles including swing, funk, latin and ballad. The band’s book even includes a Middle Eastern jazz chart with a haunting melody that conjures up images of Morocco. Many of the charts are from the leader’s pen on both standard songs and original compositions. The book also features a set of Bob Florence arrangements written for a Bud Shank recording, along with charts from several orchestrators with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra program in London, UK. Charts by local arrangers Brent Beech and Richie Dee round out this very original music library. A number of new arrangements and revised older arrangements will be showcased at this event. Dave's original composition Song For Helen, is dedicated to his wife of 45 years. New charts by Ray Ricker (Witch Hunt) and Jim McNeely (Dolphin Dance) will be featured, as well. And don’t forget to partake of the excellent Northern Italian cuisine at Chianti’s. Dinner is served before, during and after the performance. The musician line-up includes: Saxophones: Jeff Bacon, Brent Beech, Ed Fiorenza, Mike Jacobs, Dave Rasmussen Rhythm: Gary Spellissey, drums; Ralph Pepe, bass; Dale Hubbard, piano; Gian Wiegner, guitar The band has several locally produced CDs which are available at performances. Selected charts can be heard on the band’s website (www.thejazzfactory.biz). Show time is 7:30 pm.
