BEST WISHES TO PENNY DEMO

Long time resident and DLWCA volunteer Penny Demo (pictured here) recently left our community for New York State

to be close to her daughter and her daughter’s family. Penny lived in DLW more than 48 years and

during that time served the DLWCA primarily in maintaining the traffic islands and secretary

to the board. Her dedicated efforts to the traffic islands are well known and under her care

the islands became beautiful entranceways to our community. Penny’s contribution to

the DLWCA as secretary and other roles over the years has been invaluable.

One of Penny’s favorite activities is gardening and one only has to view the results of he

efforts at her home at 8429 Cottage Street to appreciate and admire her gardening

talents. She could also be seen frequently walking in the neighborhood and is an avid

bridge player and a piano player. Fortunately, she will be able to continue these activities

in her new home. We will all miss Penny and wish her the very best.

Penny would love to hear from her friends in Dunn Loring Woods. Her address is:

DLWCA BOARD SECRETARY POSITION VACANT

With the departure of our good friend Penny Demo, the DLWCA must fill the position of secretary to the board. The

job requires only a minimal time commitment and provides an opportunity to have a voice in your community

association, contribute to the betterment of our community, meet new people and get to know other community

residents. Participation in DLWCA can be most satisfying and even fun. Please contact Ken Quincy (703-573-7919) o

email him at [email protected] or call Melvin Rose (703-573-2076) or any other board member for

information on the position.

MEMBERSHIP REPORT 2013/14 –  Pat Stout

The First phase is officially over. I do want to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to the Block

Coordinator, Galeet Benzion. She took this job on with a lot of enthusiasm for getting volunteers to canvass

the DLW development. She called all of our former volunteers. Thank You so much for helping her out and

to you new Volunteer Block Captains, you are awesome.

A BIG THANK YOU  goes out to the following Volunteer Block Captains

Richard Adams, Galeet Benzion, Bob Cleary, Wayne Comer, Diane Donnelly, Jo Ann

Donnelly, Mary Ann Ely, Mary Anne Festa, Darla Hubble, Robert Kluttz, Jennnife

Koshute, Tricia McCarthy, Maria McGown, Neal McKinney, Lisa McShane, Kelly

Morgan, Carol Mullarkey, Margaret Murphy, Christine Parks, Courtney Peksens, Ken

Quincy, Tanya Ratner, Glenn Richards, Lauren Russell, Jack Schmidt, Pat Stout, Pat Wanschura, Patty Wilson,

and Bonita Wong.

As it states on the back of the Membership Form we have a lot of things that we do for the Community thattakes $$$$$$. So with that said we are giving residents and renters (who are residents), who we missed, a

second chance to help us out. The mailing went out on November 15th

. 2014 is our Directory year and we

want to make sure that all of our Members are listed in the Directory and the information, especially the

phone numbers, is correct. The Directory is printed every two years.

Directories are scheduled to be delivered Jan/Feb 2014 depending on the weather. Two years ago the Cub

Scouts did a fantastic job and we hope that they will volunteer to do the delivering again.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH

If you would like to volunteer for Neighborhood Watch, please call Mark Hann, our Neighborhood Watch

Coordinator at (703) 489-9463.  The success of this important program depends on volunteers and Mark

will appreciate your help.

LEAF PICK-UP IN DUNN LORING WOODS

Just a reminder that Dunn Loring Woods does not have leaf pick-up at the curb like the Town of Vienna

does. Residents must arrange for leaf pick-up with their trashcompany or their personal yard service company.

ELECTRIC SUNDAY

The Civic Association sponsored another successful collection of used televisions and other electrical

products on October 20. Many, many thanks to our volunteer Barry Schwartz and his daughter, Geena, age

10 (pictured here) for doing this for all of our residents in DLW. (Geena actually turned 11 on November 8.)

Barry told us that he thinks he has picked up all of the old and heavy TV's and old computer monitors left inthe neighborhood.

If you didn't have anything this time, the next pick up we will be offering will be in the spring of 2014 and

the date will be announced.
