HOW IS THE PROGRAM DEFINED?

“Dually” enrolled in high school and college

Earn high school graduation credits Earn college credits

What is the ACCEL Program?

It is a collaborative effort between GDOE and the Board of Regents whereby high school students take academic college courses to receive both high school credit and postsecondary credit.

The program is administered by the Georgia Student Finance Commission, but funded by the state . www.gsfc.org

WHAT IS THE ACCEL-award?

Students attending public institutions receive Tuition Students are responsible for books and

fees Students attending private institutions

receive up to $3,000 per academic year for full-time enrollment (or a pro-rated amount for less than full-time attendance).

who is eligible to participate in the ACCEL PROGRAM?

Students must be classified as a legal resident of Georgia.

Students must meet citizenship requirements.

Students must meet Selective Service Registration requirements.

Students must be in compliance with Georgia’s Drug-Free Postsecondary Education Act of 1990.

Students must meet the postsecondary school’s admissions requirements.

How long will a student be eligible?

Accel is not available during Summer terms.

Accel hours will NOT be included in the 127 semester/190 quarter HOPE Combined-Paid-Hours limitation.

Once high school requirements are met, the student can no longer continue to attend school.

WHAT IS THE MOVE ON WHEN READY (MOWR)

PROGRAM? Provides opportunities for high school

juniors and seniors to enroll full-time in postsecondary institutions to earn both high school and college credits simultaneously.

Students may not be enrolled in classes at BHS.

Students may participate in extra-curricular activities at BHS

HOW IS THIS (MOWR) DIFFERENT FROM THE

ACCEL PROGRAM? Accel: Full-time or part-time State funded Colleges require a lower GPA

MOWR: Must attend college full-time FTE funded-State Department of Education Pays for tuition & fees College must agree to accept State’s

payment

What are the Other DUAL ENROLLMENT Programs?Joint Enrollment Defined

A process through which high school students take courses at a state public

or private postsecondary institution while still enrolled as a high school student and receive college credit

only at the postsecondary institution. It is an ACCEL program.

HOW DO STUDENTS MAINTAIN ELIGIBILITY?

Be a full-time student for a minimum of 12 semester hours or the equivalent quarter hours after the drop/add period.

Students who drop below full-time status for any reason during the term forfeit their eligibility to continue in MOWR program and will return to their local high school.

Students may not switch programs during a semester.

What Is The Procedure?

Register/Take S.A.T.,A.C.T., or COMPASS

Make an appointment to meet with your BHS counselor & Dual Enrollment coordinator.

Complete Declaration of Intent form, and turn it in to Counseling Office.

Complete the Advisement/Contact

Information Form.

Complete the School Permission Form. This form must accompany the college application, along with the student’s transcript.

Do I register for BHS classes?

Registration begins Feb. 4. Register for 6 BHS classes BHS will make schedule changes in

August to accommodate college classes Letter of acceptance from the college is

required! College schedule required!

AFTER YOU HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED FOR COLLEGE…….

Contact the Dual Enrollment representative at the selected college to schedule an advisement conference.

Register for college classes ASAP.

AFTER YOU HAVE REGISTERED For

at B.H.S in August (date to be announced).

WHAT ABOUT EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES?

Students are eligible to participate in all interscholastic activities, with few exceptions (with a minimun of 2.1 credits).

Must meet all the requirements, schedules, and conditions to be able to participate.

In some cases this may not be possible due to class schedule conflicts.
