You can visit Pattaya via several convenient modes of transport.

You can drive from Bangkok and head to the Sukhumvit (Bangna-Trad) roads to Cholburi province, pass the Sriracha district and the Banglamung district and you will have found yourself on the road to the heart of Pattaya city. You can also take a route to the motorway which links to the bypass headed into the center of Pattaya city.

If you plan to travel by bus, depart from ei-ther Suvanabhumi Airport, or one of the three bus terminals; Southern bus terminal (Boromaratchachonnani road), Ekamai bus terminal, and Mochit bus terminal.

The train from Bangkok departs once per day from Hualampong station at 6.55am and arrives in Pattaya at 10.45am, a 3 hours and 40 minutes ride (Hualampong station tel. 0 2223 0341).

พทยาเปนเมองททองเทยวได ทงป แตชวงท อากาศดคอฤดหนาว ราวๆ เดอนพฤศจกายน ไปจนกมภาพนธ เหมาะแกการทองเทยวมากทสดอณหภมอยทประมาณ 20-30 องศาเซลเซยส มฝนตกปรอยๆ ทเรยกวา ฝนชะชอมะมวง ตกเปนชวงสนๆ และอากาศชนราว 50% สวนฤดรอน (กมภาพนธ-พฤษภาคม) มฝนตกเปนบางโอกาส อากาศชนประมาณ 75% อณหภมประมาณ 30-40 องศาเซลเซยส อาจตองระวงพาย และ ฟาคะนอง เชนเดยวกบฤดฝน (มถนายน-ตลาคม) เปนฤดทมฝนตดตอกนยาวนาน ประมาณ 90% อณหภมประมาณ 25-35 องศาเซลเซยส

WHENPattaya is great to visit all year around, coolest from November-February at 20-30 degrees Celsius. There’s likely to be light rainfall in this period when mango trees produce clusters of inflorescence, with up to 50% moisture. During the summer (February-May) there’s less chance of rain, 75% moisture at 30-40 degrees Celsius, but do watch out for occasional thunderstorms. Similar to the rainy season (June-October), with continuous rainfall about 90% of the time at 25-35 degrees Celsius.

DID YOU KNOW?

There are two origins to the name ‘Pat-

taya’. One is from a story of Thailand’s his-tory when His Majesty King Taksin Maharat gathered troops to encircle the Burmese at the Eastern regions and had settled at the Jomtien fields and Sattahip chicken farm. Later on the area was given the name ‘Tap-praya’ (royal armed foces), later called ‘Tap-taya’ and eventually became ‘Pattaya’.The other story of its origin was of the

wind called ‘Pat-taya’, that flows from the South-West to the North-East in the rainy seasons. Pattaya was only a fisherman village until 1961, when Thailand was affected by the Vietnamese war and American soldiers settled in the country and visited the village often to rent homes. And that was how the famous Pattaya resort destinations came to be.

Pattaya Special Administrative Zone: The city’s rapid growth rate in infrastructure,population density, labor, tourists and many more, had affected the sanitation management. A new system was established involving a City Manager acting as the city municipality.

Hor Mok-Jang Lon are local specialties of Pattaya and Cholburi province. With ingredients similar to a Hor Mok (seafood curry pudding). The other local favorite is the Hoi Jor (deep-fried stuffed seafood sausage), and desserts such as the sweet banana crisps, sweet taro crisps, fruit preserves, and Thai sweetmeat made of flour, coconut and sugar. But what’s most popular is the (Khao Larm) glutinous rice roasted in bamboo joints, renowned by food critics for its sweetness. Local fruits include the jackfruit, pineapples, and coconuts, available at the Nong Mon Market.

TRADITIONS & FESTIVALS

The Pattaya Music Festival is an annual event that began in the year 2002. Every March, Pattaya plays host to one of the region’s most renowned concert by both international and local bands and artists.

Pattaya’s Wan Lai Festival is another famous festival that is consider part of the traditional Songkran Festival. The Wan Lai Festival is hosted on the 19th April of every year.

Miss Tiffany Universe Contest is a beauty contest for the transgender, hosted by the Tiffany Show Pattaya Co.,Ltd and the Tourism Authority of Thailand to represent Thais to participate in the global beauty transgender contest, the Miss International Queen held annually at the Tiffany Show Pattaya theater, Pattaya route 2 road.

Colors of the East (Seesan Tawan Ork)

is an annual event hosted by the Eastern Province Cluster Office of Strategy Management (included province are Cholburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trad). The event is to promote tourism in the Eastern provinces through a collection of travel destinations, hotels, and accommodations with discount packages, held at the skirt of Pattaya s shoreline.

Countdown Pattaya Countdown Pattaya begins on Christmas day and extends all the way to the New Year. There will be an array of light displays on the streets including other Christmas decorations, cultural shows and art displays from national artists with many souvenirs up for sale.

Pattaya Marathon The Pattaya Marathon is an annual competition in corporation with the TAT and the Athletic Association of Thailand under the patronage of His Majesty the King. The King’s Cup Pattaya Marathon has many participants and is separated into 5 levels; marathon, half marathon, quarter marathon, student, and we share marathon.

Jomtien Beach is 6km long and is separated from other parts of Pattaya by the hillside of South Pattaya. When you drive past the hill and a large Buddha statue you will come across a rather tranquil beach that is famous for its array of water sports because of its fresh air. The breeze is flown in from the gulf of Thailand with very little boat activity making it a pleasant scene for sun bathing. Wong Amat Beach Wong Amat Beach is considered the most beautiful and serene beach in Pattaya due to its serenity, white beautiful sand, clean air, and is most suitable for those who seek privacy. Khao Pattaya Khao Pattaya or sometimes known as Khao Thappraya is famous for its view point which allows you to see the whole of Pattaya city. It is opened from dawn till late into the night, the impor-tant spot is the top of Pattaya mountain that has a wide plaza with seating and a telescope which you have to only drop in a few coins to use. You will also be able to see Koh Larn’s beauty from here while bathing in the cool breezes in the day time and soak in the glistening lights of Pattaya at night.

เกาะลาน Koh Larn is located at 7km away from the coast of Pattaya, covering up to 4 square km.There are various stunning beaches on the island, suitable for snorkeling and other water sports such as water parachute, water ski, and coral diving, especially at the Tah Wan beach, Thong Lang beach, Nuan beach, and Tien beach. Sam Beach is considered to be one of the quiet beaches among the other islands that surround Koh Larn such as Koh Krok and Koh Sak which is a great place for coral diving both deep and shallow waters, and has many diving classes. There are two transport options from Pattaya City to Koh Larn; the ferry or speed boat.

Tah Wan beach is beautiful and popular for the island with sand of pearl white and crysta l c lear waters . I t i s both sou l soothing for relaxation and fun for the water sport lovers, with numerous restaurants and souvenir shops. The Tah Wan beach viewpoint is only a stone’s throw away. Sangwarn Beach is a small and close to Tah Wan beach, to the West of the harbor. There is a wooden bridge leading all the way to the beach, built to harmoniously to complement the scenery. Sam Beach is just as popular as Tah Wan beach, with stunning views and various water sports. The identity of Sam beach is strange looking building acting as the landmark at the edge of the shoreline. Ta Yai Beach and Hua Kod Cape is a small island where visitors wanting to avoid crowed beaches come to stay, as it provide lots of privacy yet still offers jet skiing and banana boats.Jao Mae Kuan Im Viewpoint is located on the hilltop on the path from Nha Ban harbor to Tah Wan beach, following a pathway up the hill to the top you will witness the stunning Pattaya beaches. Tien Beach has a stunning shoreline span-ning 500 meters located at the West side of the island. Its beauty matches that of the Ta Wan beach plus it is small and peaceful, suitable for those who seek privacy.

เก�ะครก เปนเกาะเลกๆ ตงอยในพนททะเล ของพทยา อยหางจากฝงพทยาไปทางทศตะวนตกประมาณ 8 กโลเมตร เกาะครกมทพกเปนรสอรต ใหบรการ สภาพโดยรอบเกาะเปนโขดหน มหาดอยเพยงหาดเดยวอยทางทศตะวนออกของเกาะ คอ หาดเกาะครก ซงมความยาวของหาดประมาณ 100 เมตร

เก�ะส�ก เปนเกาะขนาดเลก หางจากเกาะลาน ไปทางทศเหนอประมาณ 600 เมตร รปรางโคง เปนรปเกอกมาหงาย มหาดทราย 2 หาด ทาง ทศเหนอและใตของเกาะ และมแนวปะการง บนเกาะมทพกสำาหรบนกทองเทยว

หมเก�ะไผ ประกอบดวย เกาะเหลอม เกาะหชาง เกาะกลงบาดาล เกาะมารวชย โดยเกาะเหลาน จะตงตวเรยงกนเปนหมเกาะของทะเลพทยา โดยมเกาะไผใหญทสด เกาะไผอยหางจากชายฝงของเมองพทยาประมาณ 23 กโลเมตร และม ระยะทางทหางจากเกาะลานประมาณ 9.5 กโลเมตร หมเกาะไผในปจจบนทางกองทพเรอ เปนผดแลและพฒนา และอนญาตใหบคคล หรอนกทองเทยวเขาไปทองเทยวพกผอนได โดยจะตองรกษากฎระเบยบอยางเครงครด

Krok Island is a small island on Pattaya’s territory located approximately 8 km away from the West of Pattaya shore. Krok island has several resorts, with the surrounding mostly rock surfaces, with only one travel beach on the East of the island called Koh Krok beach which is 100 meters long.

Sak Island is a small island located to the North of Koh Larn at 600 meters long the shape of an upside down horse shoe. There are 2 beaches on the North and South of the island with a line of beautiful coral reefs. The island has various accommodations for travelers.

Pai Archipelago is comprised of a group of smaller islands; Lherm island, Hoo Chang island, Gleng Badarn island, and Marnwichai island, all lined up as the archipelago of จPattaya with Pai island as the largest. Pai island is situated 23 km from the shore of Pattaya, and is 9.5 km away from Koh Larn. In the present, the Royal Thai Navy manages the island allowing tourists to visit following several regulations.

Thailand’s first school for classes on

sailing a yacht, by Chris Jakubowski, a handsome British captain with great passion for Thailand’s vast ocean. He teaches from his life experiences venturing into the sea. Gulf Charters is located on the Ocean Marian Yacht Club, a luxurious hotel on Sukhumvit road km 1 before reaching Sattahip. Here Chris and his acquaintances divided the curriculum into a “From zero to hero” method, meaning that you can take classes even if you know nothing about a yacht, and in the end you will know the techniques to venture around the globe on one.

The course is divided into 3 levels, the first is the “Crew Course”, a foundation class about the basic knowledge of a yacht, its equipment and how to use them, their relationship to the boat, the engine etc. At the end of the course, participants will gain the skills of a basic captain’s assistance. The next level is the ‘Watch Keeper

Course’, which teaches you how to control a yacht when the captain isn’t there on board, you’ll be able to read a chart, navigate with a compass, and the different types of international boats and their workings.The last level is the ‘Bareboat Captain

Course’, a strict course resulting in a IYT Certification, which allows the participants the ability to sail perfectly around the world (but not yet able to teach others). This course also teaches you how to use the radio, knowledge about frequencies, and planning how to manage the entire ship.These 3 courses aside, Gulf Charters also offers a course for those aimed at becoming the “Yacht Master” also called the “SCTW 95” which will enable you to escape dangers at sea, fires, and first aid techniques. The Charm of Sailing People have dif-

ferent purposes for sailing, some are in it for the race, others for social gatherings, or travelling. For me, I sail to study a different aspect of life, to venture into the grandness of mother nature, and to challenge myself to be more confident. I can only teach the knowledge of the

foundation for each level. In the end, a successful captain must learn from experience, you have to gather your “Miles Collection”, venture into the ocean and solve the obstacles by yourself. I can’t provide you with experience. I like Pattaya, actually I like all of Thailand’s oceans, whether it’s the gulf or the Andaman sea. I think they’re all a grand beauty, still abundant with nature’s charm and resources, it’s more beautiful than anywhere else. Aside from the food and the people, this is another reason why I love Thailand, and you know how Pattaya has so many choices of cuisine plus the beach and an island nearby for me to sail about. So I decided to establish a school for

yacht sailing. Did you know that at Ocean Marina Yacht Club, the yacht pier is the largest in the world! There are numerous boats, and I’ve grown to know all their owners now, so sometimes I give them advice on how to maintain their yachts. This truly is the center of a yacht lover’s paradise.

I was born in Pattaya, and have been living here for the past 29 years, but if you count my parents generation too it should add up to about 50 years.

Designing the color and decorative

patterns for the ship really depends each different owner. If you purchase from the shipyard, we’d provide free paint and decoration. But if the client wants to repair or redo the paint that wasn’t initially from our dock, we’d have to discuss the price as it depends on the size of the ship and the level of difficulty of the decorations.

In the past, foreigners visit Pattaya for the beauty of nature, and especially for the curved shorelines, and for Koh Larn’s crystal clear waters and pearl white beaches. It’s also very convenient to get here. But now, the interest is more for the nighttime entertainment, and that’s Pattaya’s other charm, having two different personalities in one place. Pretend that you are standing on the road near the shoreline, you’d see the peaceful beaches, and once you turn around you’d see many shopping malls, beer bars, and walking streets. This is truly the city that never sleeps, so you should try and color life with Pattaya’s travel destinations both in the day and at night.

Our family is very business orientated, w e o w n a c o n d o m i n i u m a n d h o t e l development in Jomtien. I assisted in the sales department, but it wasn’t quite busy, so I decided to put together my love for gardening, drawing, and art to created a business of my own.So I ended up with the cafe/restaurant

business, it’s quite a relaxing kind of place to visit, no one cares about the crazy things you want to do there. I can grow as many trees as I wanted, and many people thought it’s a plant shop, well “why not?” I also wanted to open up an art school, so I did. Pattaya is huge, now it’s grown to be a world-class tourist destination. But I don’t believe that only tourists stay here, I believe there are peace lovers who stay here too. Our cafe is one of the few in Pattaya that can offer that peace, so we don’t have that many competitors, but even if we do that’s not going to be a problem. There should be more peaceful places like this in Pattaya, because I don’t know much about property, I’m just a professional with plants. In the future I hope that the community will play a bigger role in our plans to set up a market for locals to sell their handcraft prod-ucts, the authentic Thai art, so that foreigners can know more about us.
