Summary of Lesson Plan NV State Social Studies Objectives Notes
MONDAY
week#1 This is a second grade social studies lesson
designed to help students understand about
groups and leaders as well as rules that
govern group dynamics. It will give students
the understanding of different places and
communities where people work and live.
The lesson uses the Houghton Mifflin Social
Studies textbook Neighborhoods (p. 26-29
and p. 36 - 38)
G5.2.3A- Construct a simple map of
the community.
G6.2.2 I can describe neighborhoods
and communities.
Have the container of drawing
material in each group, Pick up
poster board and any maps that Iwant to show the students. Make sure
smartboard is ready.
TUESDAYweek#1 This is a second grade social studies
lesson that will focus on the big idea
about how groups differ in a variety
of ways. America has many groups
and rules usually help people get
along.
G6.2.2 Describe neighborhoods and
communities as places where people
live, work, and play.
G6.2.2 I can describe neighborhoods
and communities.
Have the classroom rules activity sheet
copied for 25 students. Drawing
container on group tables.
WEDNESDAYweek#1 This is a second grade social studies
lesson students will learn about
community helpers and the services
they provide to the community by
touring the imaginary town of
Jollywood and its workers. They will
make a little book about workers.
G6.2.2 Describe neighborhoods and
communities as places where people
live, work, and play.
G6.2.2 I can describe neighborhoods
and communities.
Make sure to get a copy of the book,
A Hat for Ivan.
Bring in paper plates. Have students
bring in materials to make hats.
THURSDAYweek#1 This is a second grade social studies
lesson designed to teach students
about rural and urban cities. This
lesson uses the Houghton Mifflin
Social Studies textbook
Neighborhoods (p. 24-25).
G7.2.3 Define and compare rural and
urban communities.

between a rural and urban
community.

FRIDAYweek#1 This is a second grade social studies
lesson designed to have students
compare characteristics of cities and
suburbs.

studies lesson designed to help
students learn about different
traditions and customs that
families participate in. This lesson
uses the Houghton Mifflin Social
Studies textbook Neighborhoods
(p. 144-147).
G6.2.3 Identify traditions and
customs that families practice
Have pictures of the different
traditions to show the students.
WEDNESDAYweek#2
Teacher will have the students
construct a community by using
what they have learned in this unit.
This model will include buildings,
homes and other places need for
their imaginary community.

Construction Kit.
Pick up popsicle sticks and
