Product Description /Project Overview

Mission Statement:

The MAV Family of Projects:

• To build a semi-autonomous, tending towards full autonomy, air vehicle that will be used in the future for Multidisciplinary Senior Design and for graduate studies in the college of engineering and the college of imaging science.

• To have a hands on aeronautical project for undergraduate students that is of low cost and simplicity as to be able to be made by hand.

• To provide an incentive for students as well as exposure of engineering at RIT by competing in the more aggressive United States/Europe MAV competition

The P09123 Project will:

• Develop the Platform for an expandable and re-useable Micro Aerial Vehicle (MAV) that is intended to be used as a basis for current and future MAV design.

Safety Issues

 Issues Rank Plan

1One can get fingers cut off when having contact with an active high

speed propeller.9

Whoever is handling the plane must wear the leather gloves. Also, wheels were installed at the bottom to

avoid extra handling of the plane during takeoff.

2If plane fails during flight time and

lands towards the audience, one can get hurt.

9Wearing helmets will not be practical, so we are going

to propose wearing safety goggles.

3Flight debris could fly and have contact

with the audience at high speeds.3

Wearing helmets will not be practical, so we are going to propose wearing safety goggles.

4 If plane exceeds R/C Controller frequency range, plane will crash.

9To ensure plane will not exceed R/C frequency range,

place tape around parameters, so that user knows where is the limit.

5

When flying plane outdoors, there may be many spectators. If the plane fails, there is a possibility it could crash into

them.

9To ensure the plane doesn't crash into the audience,

the plane should be flown in a controlled area.
