A Study of Li Qi's Poems Representing High Tang Literati Part
III
Yoshiharu KAWAGUCHI
The purpose of this article is to research Li Qi's literature,
especially to understand the features of his poems representing
High Tang Literati. This article is divided into parts.
Part III endeavors to clarify the features of Du Fu and Li Qi's
poems representing High Tang Literati (including the poets
themselves).
Du Fu's poems representing others and himself are the best
attainment in the history of verse from Xian-Qin to High Tang. The
humor and self-deprecation in his poems especially display the most
outstanding distinction.
In the next section, this paper researched Li Qi's poems
representing High Tang Literati. The features of these poems are as
follows. The further specific and concrete details of the mode of
life, life history, friendship of the intelligentsia amongst the
High Tang Literati can be experienced through reading the
interesting narratives, episodes or biographies written by Li Qi.
It is unusual often to find these features in other poets' verses.
And these features show that Li Qi had an explicit role as a
documentary writer.
