転換期の大学図書館

今日の大学生は、昔の学生に比べると、大学入学前に本を読んだ経験が少ないようだ。新入生に

訊いてみると、教科書・受験参考書以外の本は驚くほど読んでいない。それは本や新聞を読まずと

も、インターネットなどで情報が容易に入手できるという今日の状況がその傾向に拍車を掛けてい

るのであろう。

しかしそのような学生も、一度大学図書館に本格的に足を踏み入れてみると「本の世界」に圧倒

されるようだ。 先日、新入生の図書館オリエンテーション・ツアーに同行したが、学生の感想は、

60 万冊を越える本の冊数の多さもさることながら、地下書庫に排架されている「越智文庫」「岡本

宏文庫」「喜田文庫」等を始めとする本学ゆかりの研究者

たちの蔵書が放つ「学問への構え」とでも謂うべき雰囲気

が印象に残り、自分たちもこの図書館を利用して４年間

みっちり勉強してみたいというものであった。この感想は

いわばうれしい｢想定外｣のものであったが、新入生の今後

に期待すると同時に、まだ御井図書館の奥深さを直に経験

していない学生諸君は是非一度訪ねてみてほしいと思う。

現在、図書館一階の特別展示室では｢丸山豊文庫｣が閲覧できる。そこでは、現代詩の巨人の思索

のプロセスと背景を窺い知ることができるとともに、蔵書の持つ表情が彼の人生と人柄そのものを

語りかけてくるような気がした。これは、電子情報では決して得ることができない本と「文庫」の

もつ効用であろう。また、本館は、簿記会計学分野の貴重なコレクションである｢ハーウッド文庫｣

も所蔵している。

今日、大学図書館の役割が変わろうとしている。これまでは研究・学習資料を保管し、利用者に

提供する場であったが、これからは、そこで学ぶ場へと転換しつつある。利用者が本（書物、雑誌）

だけでなく、データベース・ネットワーク・インターネットなどを駆使して情報を収集し、レポー

トや論文を仕上げたり、教養や知識を身につけたり、あるいは就職活動に役立てる場としての大学

図書館である。さらに付け加えれば、大学内における「癒しの空間」でもあるということである。

本に囲まれた静かな雰囲気はストレスをやわらげ、心を静める効果があると思う。

特に久留米大学御井キャンパスでは、数年後の完成を目指して新棟の建設計画が進行中である。

この新棟のなかにはラーニング・コモンズ（仮称）と呼ばれる共同学習空間が設置される予定と聞

く。これはゼミやプレゼンテーション、グループ学習その他に利用可能なもので、最近他大学では

大学図書館内に設置される場合が増えているが、それは前に述べた大学図書館の役割の変化に見合

ったものである。本学では大学全体の共有空間として構想されているようであるが、それを図書館

としてどのように積極的に利用し、有機的関連において現存の図書館の内部レイアウトをどう変更

するのか。学習支援や教育的機能をどう強化するのか。研究し易い環境をどのようにつくるのか。

それらを可能にする内部のシステムの見直しなど、転換期にある御井図書館の課題は多い。みなさ

まのご意見を是非お寄せいただきたい。

「図書館と“出会い”」

大学院心理学研究科

後期博士課程 片 岡 祥

大学・大学院を久留米大学で過ごして 9 年が経ちました。この 9 年間で様々なものが時代の流

れと共に変化しましたが、図書館を取り巻く状況もその 1 つだと思います。

大学 1・2 年生の頃は講義にはあまり出ずに、北欧神話やギリシャ神話を借りによく図書館に通

っていた記憶があります。この頃は、図書館が暇つぶしの場所として、大学における居場所の 1 つ

として機能していたような気がします。

私が本格的に図書館を利用するようになったのは 3 年次からで、卒業論文作成のための論文や資

料を集めにきていました。当時は今と違って、電子ジャーナルの普及もあまり進んでいなかったの

で、図書館に来ては論文を検索してコピーをしていました。現在は電子書籍化が進んでおり、ネッ

トさえ使えれば大学でも家でも論文を閲覧することが可能になりました。そのため、図書館には文

献や論文の取り寄せ以外にはあまりいかなくなってしまいました。しかし、便利になった反面、図

書館を媒介した人と人との交流がなくなってしまったような気がします。

卒業論文作成のために図書館に出入りしていると、同じような目的で出入りしている同級生や先

輩後輩も多く、図書館で偶然出会ってはお互いの進捗状況を話しあったり、今ぶつかっている問題

を教えあったりしたものです。また、久留米大学の図書館には地下に書庫があって、お目当ての論

文が地下に眠っていることも多かったのですが、地下に潜るためには利用届に名前を書かないとい

けませんでした。昔は利用届が一覧できたので誰が地下にいるか分かるようになっており、好意を

もっている異性がたまたま潜っていたりすると、「どうしよう、潜ろうか潜るまいか・・・会った

らなんて話そう？」などと 1 人でドキドキしたものです。ちなみにこのような不逞の輩がいるせい

か、はたまたプライバシー保護の観点からか、現在は利用届が一覧できなくなっています（笑）

図書館を利用する人が増えることで、図書館を通じた様々な出会いも増えることだと思います。

＜貸出冊数についての注記＞

１．教職員の貸出には、専任教員の研究室貸出分を含まない。

２．”夜間”とは、平日の１７：００～２１：００の夜間開館時間を指す。

* なお、４月１日～４月９日、８月９日～９月２４日、１２月２４日～１２月２８日、

２月１日～３月３１日の期間は夜間開館を行っていない。

３．地域住民への貸出は、７月１２日～８月５日、１月４日～１月２８日の期間は停止している。

４．学生一人当たりの貸し出し数は、平成２２年５月１日現在の御井キャンパスの学生数で算出。
