County District AttorneyCraig Watkins has taken hisfight for public safety andbudget cuts to the public.Tuesday evening atFriendship West, Watkinsheld a community forum toexpress his disappointmentwith the Commissionersdecision to make such a cutto an already understaffed office. The CountyCommissioners office is proposing a 10% budget cutacross the board. Watkins argued that these fundsare needed to properly serve the citizens of DallasCounty. Watkins says that the County of Dallascould be in jeopardy of losing more than two-dozenpositions when grant funding expires at the end ofthe month. It was estimated that each of the district
attorneys handle 500 cases ayear at only an average of$60 an hour. If the DistrictAttorney’s office were toloose too many of its loyalemployees the county wouldhave to hire a private lawfirm starting at over $300 anhour to handle the large caseload. Some of the countyCommissioners say they arefine with covering the cost
until the grants resume. So why not take the $4.6million for walking trails and use it to help fund theDA’s office - it’s a matter of public safety.
In doing research on the history of the DA’soffice, no DA office has ever had to take a budgetcut. In the past, the DA’s budget may not have beenincreased, but it was certainly not cut. According tothe research Dallas County spends only $13 for the
safety of every citizen a day. The larg-er counties in the state of Texas arespending an average of $6 more a dayon their citizens. According to thefacts, larger counties are actually saferthan Dallas County.
Watkins asserted that the CountyCommissioners weren’t doing their jobcausing a frenzy with the County’sbudget. He also added “if they wontdo it I’ll do it for them.” However, theDA’s office cannot accomplish this goalwithout your help.
Remember, it’s a case of publicsafety and responsibility in keeping thepublic safe and the integrity in the DA’soffice.

By: Ashley Gibson More than 100 of Mary Bennett’s closest friends
and family members recently danced the night awayat her 70th birthday bash, which was hosted at theDallas Black Academy of Arts & Letters.
Escorted to the party by her husband HillieBennett in a white, stretch Hummer limousine, thefancy ride was just one of the highlights of the eveningfor Mrs. Bennett.
As one of the party hostesses opened the doorsfor Mrs. Bennett’s grand entrance, Stevie Wonder’svoice could be heard crooning the “The BirthdaySong.”
“It really warmed my heart to see all my familyand friends come together and celebrate my birthday,”Mrs. Bennett said. “It’s in moments like these that Irealize just how much God has truly blessed me.”
Mrs. Bennett’s children had been meeting formonths to organize a party that their vibrant and ener-
getic mother wouldn’t soon forget. The party wascomplete with a deejay, a scrumptious buffet, and liveperformances. One of the most memorable perform-ances came from a group by the name of “The ThreePops” which is comprised of the editor of Elite News,Jordan Blair; Reverend George Allen; and DwayneSimpson, Sr. The men sang a sweet rendition of MyGirl that had the audience captivated.
Other presentations included a couple of solosfrom gospel recording artist Rodney Boyden; poetryfrom Mrs. Bennett’s church family; and a special trib-ute by her two eldest grandchildren.
Some of Mrs. Bennett’s guests included radio talkshow hosts Judge Mary Ellen Hicks and Cheryl Smith. Also, a representative for Dallas County CommissionerJohn Wiley Price presented Mrs. Bennett with a specialproclamation. Though Price was unable to attend dueto a prior engagement, he insisted that his assistant

“People Grumble” Numbers 11:1-6; 10-15 was our lesson for churchschool . This lesson could havebeen an article in our news paperstoday because it shows the truenature of people, the more theLord bless them the more theylong for what they do not have. This is like our present society for-ever looking for something more.God was feeding them daily, allthey had to do was step outsidetheir tents and gather food enoughfor the day, but they became dis-
contented with the manna and began to grumbleagainst the Lord and Moses. It is strange how Satanwhen reminding us of our past always show us thegood side of yesterday and blinding us to the badthings that was also a part of yesterday’s experi-
ences. Israel was remembering the different foodthey enjoyed in Egypt but forgot about the slavemasters whips. Their attitude not only displeasedMoses to the point of asking God that if this was theway it was going to be then just kill him. Many timespastors today grow weary with people they are try-ing to lead in the church. Are you a grumbler? Wecan have a home, job, family, cars and good healthand still grumble about what we don’t have. God isdispleased with grumblers. The message of themorning was delivered by our own Evangelist VickieDean. Her message was “The remedy for spiritualindifference” Rev.2:1-4. The church was warnedthat we must be careful not to let our love for theLord to grow cold. If we are not careful we can dochurch work with a heart that is detached from theLord. We should not lead a double life and if we arerepentance is what we need. Harts were blessed.God bless.

Have you noticed that themost inspiring part of yourprayer closet experience is thepart that leads you into adora-tion and thanksgiving. When Iread my Bible, I pay close atten-tion to the praises as well as thepromises.
Praise is first mentioned inthe Bible in Genesis 29:35. Leahnamed one of her sons “ Judah”, which means “ Praise ” OurLord came from the Tribe ofJudah. Why was a David a manafter God’s own heart ? Among
other things, he praised God with his whole heart. Theword “ Praise ” is mentioned more than 100 times in theBook of Psalms alone. Reading the Psalms will help us toPraise God, even at prayer time.
“ Oh that men would Praise the Lord for his good-ness, and for his wonderful works ! ” Psalms 107:8 Whenthere is Prayer in the Closet, there ought to be somePraise in the Closet also.

Rev. Johnny King
Ecclesiastes 12:1“Remember your Creatorin the days of youryouth, before the days oftrouble come and theyears approach whenyou will say, "I find nopleasure in them.”
On April 20, 1999 inthe small town of LittletonColorado, two high schoolstudents Eric Harris andDylan Klebold enacted a all
out assault on Columbine High School. Theboys plan was to kill hundreds of their peersusing guns, knives, and homemade explo-sives. They walked the halls and classroomskilling at will. When the day was over 12 stu-dents, one teacher, and both Eric and Dylanwere dead. The questions still remains todayas to why they did it? Since then we have seenthe Virginia Tech shootings, the schoolyardshootings in New York and other tragediesinvolving young people and violence. Theanswer as to why in all these cases is simple. These people were lost. They felt unloved andunwanted.
This brings us to our topic this week. Asparents and as a church why are we losing ouryoung people? As Children grow older, theyoften. lose interest in spiritual matters pullaway and become distant they start missingchurch then quit going all together they startdating, get engaged, or marry a non-Christianperson involved in drugs, alcohol, other temp-tations. Ultimately when these things happenwe will lose them to the world.
As a church and as parents, we have aresponsibility to our young people. Proverbs22:6 says, “It is the duty of both the churchand parents to train children.” You are part-ners in the training. Parents cannot expect thechurch to train kids for them. If what thechurch teaches is not seen in the home we canlose our youth also. Proverbs 22:6 is the gen-eral principle to live by when it comes toyouth. There are many reasons why we canlose our youth. Understanding why may helpprevent losing more.
There are several factors that bring aboutthis situation and process of losing our youth. One of the first that comes to mind is badinfluence of their friends. Friends often havethe most influence on youth, because that iswho they spend most of their time with. Thereare warning signs that a friend may be a badinfluence. Proverbs 1:10-19 says, “My son, ifsinners entice you, do not give in to them. Ifthey say, "Come along with us; let us lie inwait for someone’s blood, let us waylay someharmless soul; let us swallow them alive, likethe grave, and whole, like those who go downto the pit; we will get all sorts of valuablethings and fill our houses with plunder; throwin your lot with us, and we will share a com-mon purse" my son, do not go along withthem, do not set foot on their paths; for their
feet rush into sin, they are swift to shed blood. How useless to spread a net in full view of allthe birds! These men lie in wait for their ownblood; they waylay only themselves! “ Amen!Such is the end of all who go after ill-gottengain; it takes away the lives of those who getit. This shows how the bad influence of afriend can lead down a path to destruction.
Even a good Christian child can be leadastray by the wrong friendships. Proverbs12:26 says, “A righteous man is cautious infriendship, but the way of the wicked leadsthem astray. Do not make friends with a hot-tempered man, do not associate with one eas-ily angered, or you may learn his ways and getyourself ensnared. The Apostle Paul recog-nized how friends could mislead us. 1stCorinthians 15:33 says,” Do not be misled:"Bad company corrupts good character."These warnings tell us 3 things which are “Thepower of friendship, we may or may not see it,or where it could lead.“
You may be wondering how this can hap-pen and How does it happen? First there is theGradual drift. Hebrews 2:1 says, “We mustpay more careful attention, therefore, to whatwe have heard, so that we do not drift away.”Secondly, they get desensitized to sin. Psalm1:1says, “Blessed is the man who does notwalk in the counsel of the wicked or stand inthe way of sinners or sit in the seat of mock-ers.” Thirdly, Pressures mount when you areoutnumbered. Exodus 23:2, 33, says, "Do notfollow the crowd indoing wrong. Do notlet them live in yourland, or they willcause you to sinagainst me, becausethe worship of theirgods will certainly bea snare toyou."Amen! God didnot want theHebrews to fall victimto the influence of allthe other religionsand cultures and theworld they wouldencounter in thePromise Land.
Romans 12:2says, “Do not con-form any longer tothe pattern of thisworld, but be trans-formed by the renew-ing of your mind. Then you will be ableto test and approvewhat God’s Will is; hisgood, pleasing andperfect will.”Amen!
The fourth is it iseasy to become likethem. Proverbs 23:20says, “Do not join
those who drink too much wine or gorgethemselves on meat, for drunkards and glut-tons become poor, and drowsiness clothesthem in rags. Amen! If anyone has ever hungaround with a crowd like that, you know soon-er or later bad things happen.
Sometimes you as parents are Poor exam-ple of parents. Young people learn from whatthey see!
The General Principle of Matthew 5:14-16says, "You are the light of the world. A city ona hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people lighta lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead theyput it on its stand, and it gives light to every-one in the house. In the same way, let yourlight shine before men, that they may see yourgood deeds and praise your Father in Heaven. It is the duty of parents to set a good exam-ple for their kids. Some parents use theexcuse that they are young or first time par-ents and they are not sure what to do. Even ifyou are young you can still set an example.Everyone should Follow Gods guidance. 1stTimothy 4:12 “Do not let anyone look down onyou because you are young, but set an exam-ple for the believers in speech, in life, in love,in faith and in purity.” Amen!
Weather you like it or not children willbecome like their parents. Proverbs 20:7 says,“The righteous man leads a blameless life;blessed are his children after him.” Everyonewho quotes proverbs will quote this proverb

There is a lot of suffering in theworld. It tugs at our heart stringsmost when we see a young motherwith cancer or a youngster withleukemia. Then there are the prob-lems of the elderly. Some old folks areabandoned in so called rest homesand just left there to die. And need
we mention thewars, famine, persecution, andinjustice in theworld which allcontribute to suf-fering? It makesyou ask, "Why?Why all the suf-fering?"From God's per-
spective, thereare several rea-sons for suffer-ing. God gives usone of those rea-sons in 2
Corinthians 1:3-4. The Bible speaks ofthe "God of all comfort; who comfortsus in all our affliction so that we maybe able to comfort those who are inany affliction with the comfort withwhich we are comforted by God."
Here is a profound reason for yoursuffering. Out of it all you can learnabout the comfort only God can give.Once you have really learned the les-son of God's comfort, you can directothers to that ultimate source of com-fort. Jesus Christ is our chief example.Jesus Christ was perfected throughsufferings (Hebrews 2:10). This wasso "that He might become a mercifuland faithful high priest in things per-taining to God" (Hebrews 2:17). NowJesus Christ is in heaven with thesame body in which He suffered pray-ing for you and me.
Yes, God is the "Father of merciesand the God of all comfort." Turn toGod, not just halfheartedly or withbitterness about your troubles; butturn to God and beg for His mercy.Ask Him for comfort!

Price went on to make a tremendousannouncement about two new schoolsthat will be named for two outstandingNational figures. One school will benamed for the first elected AfricanAmerican President, in the history of thisCountry, President Barack Obama(changed from Billy Earl Dade MiddleLearning Center). The other school will benamed for the first Hispanic Justice SoniaSotomayor (changed from O. M. Roberts).
Ron Price sat with his District 9Advisory Council members, Mrs. WillieMae Coleman (a 74-year-old resident ofSouth Dallas) and Lisa Lopez. Theybeamed with pride as they talked abouttheir accomplishments and their roleworking as a team, and how it has madeit even sweeter. Members of Lulac saidthat they appreciate how Ron Price hasbeen an advocate for all members ofDistrict 9. Rev. Wright of the CommonsSocial Justice Civil Rights Organizationsaid that Ron has always done a good jobof representing District 9 and we need
more people like him to bring Blacks,Browns and Hispanics together, such asmoves like what was made today.
Mr. Price only invited the Hispanic andAfrican American press because he want-ed them to be the first to break news onthis historic moment.
Price has served the District well byevidence of his accomplishments. He hasbeen the leader in District 9 as it hasundergone a complete educational renais-sance while working with the citizens andthe grass root people in the community.
Since the beginning of Price’s first termin 1997, he has always set the bar high foreducating students in District 9. Thenumber of recognized schools has grownfrom 3 to 13, and there are four exempla-ry schools in District 9.
This has been the trademark of RonPrice all the way starting with the PearlGuards and it hasn’t stopped now.

Yes, our God does take bad raps, ordoes God get accused for things He didnot do. We use the word RAP in order forthe young to be able to identify with themeaning.
Have you ever heardsomeone say I knew Godwas going to take himout of here, because hewas such a bad boy/girl,God don’t like ugly. You’ve heard people saymany times that Godtook someone on home10, 20, 30, 40, or 5 yearsold. How many timeshave you heard some-thing like this?
When Kennedy wasassinated here in 1963,
people were running around here sayingthat God took him out, and some weresaying that his time was up, and some sayhis time just simply ran out.
Here is a list of God’s moral attributes:1. Holy 2. Love 3. Just 4. Good
God is just and He has no respect ofperson, God does not love me any morethan He loves you, and He does not loveyou any more than He loves me.
God would not do something to youthat He would not do to me, and viceversa. God has promised all mankindthree score and ten years upon the face ofthe earth, this means that every man, woman, and child has the same startingline and the same finishing line. Amen.
The moral attributes and the characterof God will not let him break His promis-es, which means that God cannot breakHis promise even if He wanted to do sobecause of His Justice. If God would breakHis promise He would cease to be God.You see, here is a man who ran a stopsign and hit a MACK TRUCK, and someone say I knew the Lord was going to takehim out because of his so and so, and hedid this and he did that. Not so, the foolran the stop sign himself whether he wasdrunk or what, but God had nothing to dowith him running that stop sign, he did
that on his own.A lot of people think when President
Kennedy was assinated that God tookhim. Why would any Christian think thatwhen a little disarranged man like Oswaldhides behind some boxes in a building andpulls the trigger on a rifle and takes thelife of an innocent person. Now, how inthe world did God have anything to dowith this sneaky person’s action?
In Matthew 2:16 Herod sent troopsinto Bethlehem and slew all the childrentwo years old and under. Did God takethem out of the world, or was it Herodand his troops?
You see, God gives all mankind thesame promise. God has promised every-one seventy years on the face of theearth. Men, women, and children fallsshort of the seventy year promise becauseof something we do to ourselves, or whatsomeone else do to us, not God.Now, the question arises, could God haveprevented this from happening? Yes, Godcan do anything He wants to do, He isGod. God does not prevent most things,or some thingsbecause of His permissive will, God allowsthings to happen because He can seearound the corner, but we can only see tothe corner.
A man and wife turns over their carand dies, but their two year old son doesnot get a scratch. God’s permissive will isalways in effect.
We do not know why God allowedthose babies to die in Beth-lehem.Looking around the corner God mighthave seen a rebellious generation liketheir fathers. You do know there weremany rebellious Israelites during this time.I said maybe, not a fact, but anyway youlook at it God always knows what He isdoing, but we don’t. You see, these babiesare all going to heaven at their death, andGod knew this. They might not have ifthey had reached adulthood, because ofthe way their ancestors lived.
Let us not forget to read our Bibles, and may God bless you real good, andmay He ever keep you in His loving care.

Advice Column: Ask Dr. Karen HollieDear Dr. Hollie,
About a month ago Istarted talking to an oldfriend of mine. I’veknown him since I wastwelve, and when I was15 we became a couple. Then we lost touch. Ijoined one of the popu-lar sites and he got intouch with me. I askedmy husband if therewould be a problem andhe said it’d be alright aslong as the guy remainsrespectful. Now myhusband has come and asked me ifit was okay for him to get in touchwith an old girlfriend. She was inthe picture before me and we’vebeen together for 14 years, so thatwas no problem for me. I havereceived a couple of emails from herfor him with pictures, also not aproblem. But in the email she goesinto thanking him for his apologyand listing things she had learnedfrom him, and to me all that is deal-ing with emotions and I am notokay with that. I don’t have any
reason to mistrust myhusband, but I don’twant him involved in anemotional relationshipwith another woman, especially a singlewoman that he has his-tory with. I don’t wantto give up my friendbecause there are noemotions involved at all.So can I ask him to stoptalking to her and stillkeep my friendshipgoing?
Friendship?
Dear Friendship,I would like to see you both leave old
relationships behind because they couldbecome a hindrance and cause a division.Work on developing some mutual friend-ships with other couples and your rela-tionship with one another.

about you in Ezekiel 16:44 "Like mother, like daughter!" Amen! Children will invari-ably talk, eat, walk, think, respond, andact like their parents. Give them a target toshoot at. Give them a goal to work toward.Give them a pattern which they can seeclearly, and you give them something thatwhich gold and silver cannot buy. Amen!
Parents your actions will speak louderthan words. Do not just tell your kids youlove them, show them! Let them see youpracticing the same Christian values youare trying to teach them. What do childrenoften see in their parents? Most of thetime parents do not go to church onSunday at all. We do not study the Bibleanymore like we used to and we missChurch a lot; we make excuses for notgoing such as being tired, busy, or theweather. We also miss family events a lotfor work and remember work can replaceyou and family cannot. Amen!
We continue to put emphasis on mate-rial over spiritual things and we emphasiswork over spiritual and the Worldliness ofhow much stuff can I get, such as the bighouse, and fancy cars. So do not be sur-prised when they turn out just like youtrained them to be! Now you know why weare losing our young people. Amen!
