• Although most of the world is not running out of freshwater, a number of regions already face chronic freshwater shortage 尽管世界上大多数地区尚未出现淡水枯竭的现象，但已经有不少地区面临长期淡水匮乏问题。

• In the future, water shortages are likely to spread due to increasing demands, unsustainable withdrawal rates, difficulties in finding new supplies, pollution and source water contamination, and changing climatic and precipitation patterns由于受到对水的需求量不断增加、无限制开采、发掘新水源困难、污染和水源污染以及不断变化的气候和降雨模式等诸多因素的影响，缺水问题有可能变得日趋严重。
