O BRASIL NOS MUNDIAIS INDOOR

A Seleção Brasileira disputa o Mundial de Atletismo Indoor 2018 com sete atletas. A 19ª edição do Campeonato será disputada de 1º a 4 de março, na cidade de Birmingham, na Grã-Bretanha. Entre os destaques da equipe estão o campeão olímpico do salto com vara, Thiago Braz da Silva, e o líder do Ranking Mundial da temporada no salto triplo, Almir Cunha dos Santos, o Almir Junior. A história dos Mundiais em Pista Coberta começa em 1985, quando a IAAF organizou uma pré-edição em Paris, na França, em 18 e 19 de janeiro. Participaram 319 atletas de 69 países e o Brasil teve cinco representantes. Vinte e quatro nações colocaram atletas no pódio. Um dos ganhadores de medalha foi o paraibano João Batista Eugênio da Silva, que levou o bronze nos 200 m. Em Indianápolis, nos Estados Unidos, em 1987, teve início a série oficial do Mundial Indoor. Até a nona edição, também em Birmingham 2003, o Campeonato era disputado nos anos ímpares. Desde Budapeste 2004, o Campeonato passou para os anos pares, para não coincidir com o Campeonato Mundial de Atletismo, disputado ao ar livre, nos anos ímpares. Desde a competição de Paris 1985, os brasileiros conquistaram 15 medalhas: quatro de ouro, cinco de prata e seis de bronze. Os campeões foram José Luiz Barbosa, nos 800 m, em 1987; Fabiana de Almeida Murer (foto), no salto com vara, em Doha, no Catar, em 2010; e Mauro Vinícius Hilário Lourenço da Silva, o Duda, no salto em distância, em Istambul, na Turquia, em 2012 e Sopot, na Polônia, em 2014.

The history of World Indoor

Championships begins in 1985,

when the IAAF organized a pre-

event in Paris, France, on January

18 and 19. 319 athletes from 69

countries participated and Brazil

had five representatives.

Twenty-four nations put athletes

on the podium. One of the medal

winners was João Batista Eugênio

da Silva, who took the bronze in the

200 m. In Indianapolis, in the

United States, in 1987, the Indoor

World Championship began

officially.

Until the ninth edition, also in Birmingham 2003, the Championship was played

in the odd years. From Budapest 2004, the Championship went to the even years, to

not coincide with the World Athletics Championship, disputed outdoor, in the odd

years.

Since Paris 1985 competition, the Brazilians have won 15 medals: four gold, five

silver and six bronze medals. The champions were José Luiz Barbosa, in the 800 m, in

1987; Fabiana de Almeida Murer, at the pole vault, in Doha, Qatar, in 2010; and Mauro

Vinícius Hilário Lourenço da Silva (photo), in the long jump, in Istanbul, Turkey in 2012

and Sopot in Poland in 2014.

ALMIR JUNIOR (SALTO TRIPLO / TRIPLE JUMP) Nome / Name: Almir Cunha dos Santos Data de nascimento / Date of birth: 04/09/1993 Local de nascimento / Place of birth: Matupá (MT) Treinador / Coach: José Haroldo Loureiro Gomes Clube / Club: Sogipa (RS) Depois de começar a carreira no salto em altura, prova que disputou no Mundial Sub-20 de Barcelona 2012. Mudou para o salto triplo no final de 2016, após obter bom resultado em Mogi das Cruzes (SP). Em 2017, sofreu uma lesão, mas no final da temporada saltou 16,92 m e ficou em primeiro lugar no Ranking Brasileiro. Este ano, na temporada indoor, venceu os Meetings de Kent (Estados Unidos), com 17,06 m, de Madri (Espanha), com 17,35 m, e de Liévin (França), com 17,37 m. É o número 1 do Ranking Mundial 2018. After starting his career in the high jump, event he has competed at the U-20 World

Champioships in Barcelona 2012. He moved to the triple jump at the end of 2016, after

obtaining a good result. In 2017, he suffered an injury, but at the end of the season he

jumped 16.92 m and was in first place in the Brazilian Ranking. This year, in the indoor

season, it won the Meetings of Kent (United States), 17.06 m, Madrid (Spain), 17.35 m,

and Liévin (France), 17.37 m. It is the number 1 in the 2018 World Indoor Ranking.

DARLAN ROMANI (ARREMESSO DO PESO / SHOT PUT) Nome / Name: Darlan Romani Data de nascimento / Date of birth: 09/04/1991 Local de nascimento / Place of birth: Concórdia (SC) Treinador / Coach: Justo Navarro Recordista sul-americano da modalidade com 21,86 m e terceiro do Ranking Mundial em 2018 com 21,68 m (ao ar livre). Obteve a melhor classificação olímpica de um atleta do Brasil na prova, ao ficar em quinto nos Jogos do Rio 2016, com 21,02 m. Para isso superou duas vezes o recorde nacional (fez 20,96 m na qualificação). Fez o recorde sul-americano ao vencer a prova no GP Brasil Caixa 2017, em São Bernardo do Campo (SP).

South American recorder holder in the shot put with 21.86 m and third of the World Ranking

in 2018 with 21.68 m (outdoor). He obtained the best Olympic classification of a Brazilian

athlete in the shot put, when being fifth in the Games of Rio 2016, with 21.02 m. In Olympic

Games he broken twice the national record (it did 20,96 m in the qualification). He made the

South American record by winning the GP Brasil Caixa de Ateltismo in 2017 GP, in São

Bernardo do Campo (SP).

GABRIEL CONSTANTINO (60 M COM BARREIRAS / 60 M HURDLES)

Nome / Name: Gabriel Oliveira Constantino Data de nascimento / Date of birth: 09/02/1995 Local de nascimento / Place of birth: Rio de Janeiro (RJ) Treinador / Coach: Renan da Mota Valdiero Clube / Club: Pinheiros (SP) Em 2011 foi campeão brasileiro sub-18 do salto em altura, com 1,89 m. No ano seguinte, foi campeão sub-18 do octatlo, da Copa Brasil de Provas Combinadas, em Campinas (SP). Optou pelas provas com barreiras e no ano passado participou de Campings nos Estados Unidos e na Europa. Venceu competições como o Meeting de Jacksonville, nos Estados Unidos. Este ano, venceu os 60 m com barreiras do Desafio Brasil Caixa Indoor, com 7.60, igualando o recorde sul-americano, feito por Marcio Simão de Souza em 2004. In 2011 he was Brazilian U-18 high jump champion, with 1.89 m. The following year, he

was U-18 champion of the octatlon, at the Brazil Cup in Campinas (SP). He has chosen

the tests with barriers and last year participated in Campings in the United States and

Europe. He has won competitions such as the Jacksonville Meeting in the United States.

This year, he won the 60m hurdles at the Brazil Indoor Challenge, with 7.60, matching

the South American record made by Marcio Simão de Souza in 2004.

THIAGO BRAZ (SALTO COM VARA / POLE VAULT)

Nome / Name: Thiago Braz da Silva Data de nascimento / Date of birth: 16/12/1993 Local de nascimento / Place of birth: Marília (SP) Treinador / Coach: Vitaly Petrov Clube / Club: Pinheiros (SP) É o único campeão olímpico do Atletismo brasileiro em atividade. Ele conquistou título nos Jogos do Rio 2016 com 6,03 m, recorde olímpico e sul-americano. Este ano, em competições indoor, saltou 5,90 m em Rouen, na França, e divide o segundo lugar no Ranking Mundial com o recordista mundial Renauld Lavillenie. Ganhou a medalha de prata nos Jogos Olímpicos da Juventude em Cingapura 2010. Foi campeão mundial sub-20 em 2012, em Barcelona, na Espanha. He is the only Olympic champion of Brazilian Athletics in activity. He won the title at the

Rio 2016 Oympic Games with 6.03 meters with Olympic and South American records.

This year, in indoor competitions, he jumped 5.90m in Rouen, France, and occupy the

second place in the World Indoor Ranking. He won the silver medal at the Youth

Olympic Games in Singapore 2010. He was Under-20 world champion in 2012 in

Barcelona, Spain.

NUBIA SOARES (SALTO TRIPLO / TRIPLE JUMP)

Nome / Name: Nubia Aparecida Soares Data de nascimento / Date of birth: 26/03/1996 Local de nascimento / Place of birth: Lagoa da Prata (MG) Quarta colocada no Ranking Mundial de 2017 com 14,56 m (0.8), ficou fora do Mundial de Londres por causa de uma contusão no pé. Voltou este ano aos treinos, e mesmo abalada com a morte de seu técnico, Aristides Junqueira, venceu o Torneio FPA, em São Bernardo do Campo (SP), com 13,97 m (0.9). Depois de começar no esporte pelo handebol, ganhou títulos importantes como o do PAN Sub-20 do Canadá. Fourth in the World Ranking in 2017 with 14,56 m (0.8), she stayed out of the World

Athletics Championships in London by a injury in the foot. She returned to training this

year, and was surprised by the death of the coach, Aristides Junqueira. After starting in

the sport for handball, she won important titles such as the U-20 Pan-American

Champioships in Canada.

ROSANGELA SANTOS (60 M)

Nome / Name: Rosangela Cristina Oliveira Santos Data de nascimento / Date of birth: 20/12/1990 Local de nascimento / Place of birth: Washington DC (USA) Treinador / Coach: Adalberto Carvalho de Almeida Clube / Club: Pinheiros-SP Medalha de bronze no 4x100 m na Olimpíada de Pequim 2008, a velocista obtém bons resultados na carreira desde muito jovem. Ganhou prata nos 100 m do Mundial Sub-18 de Ostrava, na República Tcheca, em 2007. Em 2008, no Mundial Sub-20 de Bydgoszcz, na Polônia, foi bronze no 4x100 m. Ouro no PAN de Guadalajara 2011 nos 100 m e no 4x100 m, é recordista sul-americana dos 60 m indoor, com 7.17, e dos 100 m ao ar livre, com 10.91 (-0.2), marca obtida no Mundial de Londres 2017, quando se tornou a primeira brasileira finalista na prova, com o sétimo lugar. Bronze medal in the 4x100 m at the 2008 Beijing Olympics Games, Rosangela achieved

good results since very young. She won silver in the 100m at U-18 World

Championships in 2007. In 2008, at U-20 World Champioships in Poland, she was

bronze in the 4x100m. Won gold medal in the Pan American Games in Guadalajara in

2011 in the 100m and in the 4x100m. She is a South American recorder holder in the

60m indoor, with 7.17, and of the 100m outdoor, with 10.91 (-0.2), a mark obtained in

London at World Athletics Championships in 2017, when became the first Brazilian

finalist in the 100 m, with seventh place.

VITÓRIA ROSA (60 M)

Nome / Name: Vitória Cristina Silva Rosa Data de nascimento / Date of birth: 12/01/1996 Local de nascimento / Place of birth: Rio de Janeiro (RJ) Treinador / Coach: Katsuhico Nakaya Clube / Club: Orcampi Unimed (SP) Em seu terceiro torneio em pista coberta correu os 60 m em 7.27, superando o índice de 7.30 exigido pela IAAF como índice do Mundial. De uma família de atletas, começou no esporte pelo handebol na escola, mas ainda cedo optou pelo Atletismo. Disputou o Mundial Sub-20 de Eugene, nos Estados Unidos, em 2014. E no PAN Sub-20 de Edmonton, no Canadá, em 2015, ganhou prata nos 200 m. Integrou as Seleções Brasileiras nos Mundiais de Pequim, na China, em 2015, e de Londres, na Grã-Bretanha, em 2017. Também competiu nos Jogos Olímpicos do Rio 2016.

From a family of athletes, she started out in the sport by handball at school, but she

soon chose Athletics. She competed at the U-20 World Athetics Campionships in

Eugene in United States in 2014 and at the U-20 Pan-American Championships in

Edmonton, Canada in 2015, when she won silver in the 200m. She joined the Brazilian

National Team at the World Championships in Beijing in 2015 and London in 2017. She

also competed at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
