Nanna and Priya have a father and daughter relationship. Theirrelationship does not follow the traditional father & daughterrelationship. This is because Nanna is an open-minded father. Priyacould talk and express her thoughts and feelings with Nanna. Forexample, when she felt like the family is patronizing America and

American as a bad influence. She could share her unsatisfactory on thetopic with Nanna. Another example that shows Nanna is an open-minded kind of father which differs to the traditional father is when hetalks about Nates girlfriend with Nate. This is contrary with thetraditional relationship of a father and daughter. In a traditional

relationship, a daughter must follow her fathers orders withoutquestioning it. Sowmya, for example, has a traditional relationshipwith her father, Thatha. She follow his orders to have an arrangedmarriage and not working. The similarities of both types ofrelationship is that in both relationships, the daughters would respect

their father even though they have different ideologies and ideas.
