Moulding & Foundry Skills [Standard – 12 to 15 months]

Industrial Applications Apprenticeship

This Standard pathway is designed to meet the minimum qualification criteria but still provide a grounding in basic skills, knowledge and understanding of common foundry practices. It covers a broad range of basic competencies in Moulding & Coremaking, Casting, Fettling and Casting inspection with an emphasis on safe working, communicating information and achieving the quality standards expected by the company. This particular pathway does not require a technical certificate but there are technical training elements provided free as part of this course.

NVQ Level 2 Performing Engineering Operations [PEA: Engineering Practices] Must choose from 3 mandatory units + 3 others for NVQ qualification

Mandatory: PEO2/001: Working Safely in an Engineering Environment PEO2/002: Working Efficiently and Effectively in Engineering PEO2/003: Using and Communicating Technical Information

Recommended: PEO2/048: Producing and Preparing Sand Moulds and Cores for Casting PEO2/050: Producing Cast Components by Manual Means Plus one from below:

Moulding & Coremaking [Advanced – 25 to 30 months]

Advanced Modern Apprenticeship

This Advanced pathway is designed to first provide a grounding in basic skills, knowledge and understanding of common foundry practices. During the first 12 months it covers a broad range of basic competencies in Moulding & Coremaking, Casting, Fettling and Casting inspection with an emphasis on safe working, communicating information and achieving the quality standards expected by the company. This pathway also includes Specialist NVQ assessment at level 3 and a Technical Certificate in the form of the Diploma in Castings Technology and therefore requires candidates with a higher technical ability.

Moulding & Coremaking [Advanced – 25 to 30 months]

Advanced Modern Apprenticeship

The specialist NVQ units can be tailored to suit the candidate’s future job role. It is assessed at a higher standard with more emphasis of acquiring not just the competency level expected by the awarding body, but also the competency levels expected by the company.

NVQ Level 3 Materials Processing & Finishing [MPA: Mould and Core Making] Must choose from 3 mandatory units + 2 others for NVQ qualification

Mandatory: MPF2/001: Complying with Statutory Regulations and Organisational Safety Requirements MPF2/002: Using and Interpreting Engineering Data and Documentation MPF2/003: Working Efficiently and Effectively in Engineering

Optional: MPF2/004: Producing Sand Moulds Manually MPF2/005: Producing Sand Cores Manually MPF2/006: Producing Sand Moulds or Cores with Mechanical Assistance MPF2/007: Producing Sand Moulds or Cores Automatically MPF2/008: Producing Ceramic Moulds or Cores MPF2/009: Producing Shell Moulds for Investment Casting MPF2/010: Preparing Materials for Moulding and Coremaking MPF2/011: Assembling, Core Setting and Closing Sand / Ceramic Moulds MPF2/012: Assembling and Preparing Investment Shells for Casting

This advanced pathway requires a Technical Certificate which is provided by ETA (an approved training provider of Metskill & ICME). The Diploma in Castings Technology is a NEW qualification recently developed and approved for the Foundry Industry.

This Advanced pathway is designed to provide a structured learning program for patternmaking. During the first 12 months it covers a broad range of basic competencies in patternmaking with an emphasis on safe working, communicating information and achieving the quality standards expected by the company. This pathway also includes Specialist NVQ assessment at level 3 and a Technical Certificate in the form of the Diploma in Castings Technology and therefore requires candidates with a higher technical ability.

This Advanced pathway is covers a broad range of basic competencies in laboratory testing activities with an emphasis on safe working, communicating information and achieving the quality standards expected by the company. This pathway also includes a Technical Certificate in the form of the Diploma in Castings Technology and therefore requires candidates with a higher technical ability.

NVQ level 3 Metal Processing & Allied Operations [Laboratory & Associated Technical Activities] Must choose all 5 mandatory units + 3 options for NVQ qualification

This pathway covers a broad range of basic competencies in foundry support and ancillary services with an emphasis on safe working, communicating information and achieving the quality standards expected by the company. No matter what the supporting role may be, workers can still be qualified! Suitable job roles would include; Ancillary workers, maintenance, semi­skilled operators, dispatch and stores, material preparation services, support workers etc…

NVQ level 2 Metal Processing and Allied Operations
