PLEBES NO MORE

The midshipmen of the Naval Academys Class of2015 formed a human pyramid around the Herndonmonument May 22 to attempt the annual climb toreplace the plebe cap at the top of the monumentwith an upperclassman one.

The 21-foot obelisk was covered in grease to makethe climb more challenging, but after two hours, 10minutes and 13 seconds, Midshipman 4th ClassAndrew Craig, of Tulsa, Okla., reached the top andswitched out the caps, bringing plebe year to aclose.

The event represents the end of the plebes first,rigorous year at the academy and their progressionto third class midshipmen, or youngsters.
