Nearly 1,000 Naval Academy midshipmen attendeda lecture by former NFL defensive lineman Feb. 6 onthe role of gender, relationships, ethics and maturity inleadership.

Joe Ehrmann is a former NFL player, named to the All-Century and All-American football teams at SyracuseUniversity who is now a motivational speaker.

He is a former Baltimore Colts Man of the Year awardwinner, also named Man of the Year by the FrederickDouglass Society and the National FatherhoodInitiative.

Ehrmann explained that most of the gender denitions

in society are based on misconceptions.

The Naval Academys Black History Month Kickoffincluded a performance by the University of MarylandSigmas and a speech by the chairman of the MarylandCommission on African American History and Culture.
