HOSTS SPECIAL

OLYMPICSThe Midshipman Action Group (MAG) at the U.S.

Naval Academy hosted the Special Olympics on the

Yard April 22-23.

The Special Olympics provides year-round sports

training and athletic competition in a variety of olympic-

type sports for children and adults with intellectual

disabilities, giving them the opportunity to develop

physical tness, experience joy, share their personal

skills, and demonstrate courage.

The Naval Academy is the most sought after of any

other sports venue throughout the area, said Gregg

Meade, the Special Olympics coordinator for Anne

Arundel County.

The games kicked off Saturday, April 22, with the

aquatics competitions.

Oceanography majors Midshipmen 2nd Class Michael

Fuller and Kevin Lois participated in the Estuarine

Cohesive Sediments (EsCoSed) project winter eld

sampling event in Senigallia, Italy.

The Naval Academy held an Asian Pacic American

Heritage banquet at the Naval Academy Club with

special guest Rear Adm. Raquel C. Bono, director of

the National Capital Region Medical Directorate.

USNA GARDE N CLUBThe Naval Academy Garden Club will present a

Standard Flower Show, Full Speed Ahead! in the

Naval Academy Museum in Preble Hall. The show

is free and open to the public. Show hours are

Wednesday, May 14 from 1300-1700 and Thursday,

May 15 from 0900 to 1600. 48 Naval history-themed

oral designs will be displayed on the rst deckamong the museums regular exhibits. Horticulture

specimens, both cut and container-grown, will be

displayed in the theater on the second deck. All are

welcome to stop by and enjoy the show.

SETTING SAIL PROGRAMThere will be a seminar May 22 from 7:30-10:30 a.m.

for future spouses of USNA graduates to introduce

them to the COMPASS program and discuss the Navy

family lifestyle. The program is led by experienced

VISITORS CENTER EVENTSArtist Joe Barsin of JEB Designs will hold a signing

May 19 from 10 A.M.-noon and photographer Roger

Miller will hold a book signing May 20 from 10 a.m. to

noon. Both events will be held at the Armel-Leftwich

Visitor Center located near Gate 1.
