    MACQUARIE UNIVERSITY - CODE OF BEHAVIOUR FOR UNIVERSITY SPORT EVENTS

    1.1 What is the Code of Behaviour?a. This Code is designed to ensure that the highest possible standard of competition, sportsmanship, fairness, honesty

    and honour in relation to the conduct of university sport and Macquarie University events continues to prevail.b. Macquarie University regards any breach of this Code as a serious matter and may take disciplinary action against a

    person in breach of this Code.c. This Code sets out the types of behaviour that will not be acceptable during a Macquarie University endorsed even

    and the consequences for such behaviour occurring.d. This Code supports Macquarie Universities desire to encourage and promote excellent sportsmanship and

    appropriate standards of behaviour, including fair play on and off the field.e. This Code is not intended to restrict or hinder a persons enjoyment of the event and/or from participating in a

    competitive manner in the event.f. It is important to note that this Code may apply in addition to other Macquarie University policies and/or any Code o

    other disciplinary requirements of AUS, sport governing body and will be referred to the Police where appropriate.

    1.2 When does this Code apply?

    The Code applies from the time of the commencement of the event on the first day to the conclusion of organisedactivities on the last day or as in the case of a representative team, from notification of selection until departure from theteam including:

    (i) during games and competitions in the event

    (ii) all official and unofficial social functions of, or associated with, the event

    1.3 General Code of BehaviourAs a person required to comply with Macquarie University policies, the following requirements in regard to conduct duringany event, activity held, sanctioned or endorsed by Macquarie University, and in any role held within MacquarieUniversity, an Macquarie University affiliate, must be met;

    a. respect the rights, dignity and worth of othersb. be fair, considerate and honest in all dealings with others

    c. be professional in, and accept responsibility for your actionsd. make a commitment to providing quality servicee. be aware of, and maintain an uncompromising adhesion to, AUS standards, rules, regulations, guidelines

    policies and by-lawsf. operate within the rules of the sport including national and international guidelines which govern the sportg. do not use your involvement with Macquarie University to promote your own beliefs, behaviours, or practices

    where these are inconsistent with those of the organisationh. maintain high personal behaviour standards at all timesi. conduct yourself in a professional manner relating to language, temper and punctuality

    j. demonstrate a high degree of individual responsibility especially when dealing with persons under 18 yearsof age, as your words and actions are an example

    k. avoid unaccompanied and unobserved activities with persons under 18 years of age, wherever possiblel. refrain from any form of harassment of others

    m. refrain from any behaviour that may bring Macquarie University (including the event and/or event organisers)into disreputen. provide a safe environment for the conduct of the activityo. show concern or caution towards others who may be sick or injuredp. be a positive role modelq. not consume alcohol unless in an approved area, in line with relevant liquor licensing regulationsr. not be unduly intoxicated at any event venue or official or unofficial social functions of, or associated with, the

    events. do not breach AUS Anti-Doping By-Lawt. do not use any illegal drug during the eventu. comply with all reasonable directions of Macquarie University or AUSv. do not act in an unlawful mannerw. understand the repercussions if you breach, or are aware of any breaches of, this Code of Behaviour

    1.4 Participant Code of BehaviourIn addition to the General Code of Behaviour, the following requirements in regard to conduct during any activity held,sanctioned or endorsed by Macquarie University and in the role as a player/participant in any activity held by or under theauspices of Macquarie University, must be met:

    a. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of fellow players, coaches, officials and spectatorsb. Do not tolerate acts of aggressionc. Respect the talent, potential and development of fellow players and competitorsd. Care for and respect the equipment provided to you or utilised as part of the activitye. Be frank and honest with your coach concerning illness and injury and your ability to train for or participate

    fully within the activityf. At all times avoid intimate relationships with your coachg. Conduct yourself in a professional manner relating to language, temper and punctualityh. Maintain high personal behaviour standards at all times.i. Abide by the rules and respect the decision of the official, making all appeals through the formal process and

    respecting the final decision j. Be in an appropriate state of physical health for the competition

    k. Be honest in your attitude and preparation to participate. Work equally hard for yourself and your teaml. Cooperate with coaches and staff in development of programs to adequately prepare you for competition a

    the highest level

    1.5 What behaviour is in breach of this Code?Any person who does, or is involved in, any of the following types of behaviour shall be in breach of the Code:

    (i) consuming alcohol unless in an approved area, in line with relevant liquor licensing regulations

    (ii) being unduly intoxicated at any event venue or official and unofficial social functions of, or associated withthe event

    (iii) using or possessing any illegal or prohibited drug during the event

    (iv) failing to comply with a reasonable direction of an event official

    (v) breaching the relevant sport, event or competition rules, regulations and/or policies

    (vi) abusing, threatening or intimidating an event or competition official, selector, coach, manager or other squad

    official or any other participant, whether before, during or after the event or competition(vii) showing unnecessary or obvious dissension, displeasure or disapproval towards an event or competition

    official, his or her decision, or generally after a decision of an event, competition or team officials has beenmade

    (viii) using crude or abusive language or gestures towards an event, competition or team official or any otheperson present at the event or competition (including, without limitation, a spectator, official, volunteer oparticipant)

    (ix) do anything which is likely to intimidate, offend, insult or humiliate another person involved in the event onthe basis of their sex, disability, race, colour, age, religion, national or ethnic origin

    (x) conducting themselves in any manner, or engage in any activity, whether before, during or after an event orcompetition (including during training and other activities), that would impair public confidence in the honestand orderly conduct of events and competitions or in the integrity and good character of university sport andits participants

    (xi) do anything which adversely affects or reflects on or discredits University Sport generally, MacquarieUniversity, AUS, the event organisers, any member association or associate member of AUS, the team, anevent, competition, tour, sponsor, official supplier or licensee, (including any employee, official or agent ofsuch organisations) including without limitation, any illegal act or any act of dishonesty or fraud at any time

    (xii) betting on the outcome or on any other aspect of the event or competition

    (xiii) throwing or fixing an event or competition, attempt to achieve a contrived outcome to an event ocompetition, or otherwise influence improperly the outcome of any other aspect of an event of competition

    (xiv) acting in an unlawful manner

    (xv) not seek or accept a bribe or other benefit (whether financial or non-financial) to do anything mentionedabove

    Please note that any on-field incidents will be managed and dealt with by the on-field officials of the match, game ofixture and by the appropriate laws, rules or processes of the appropriate sporting competition. However if the breach isdeemed severe, the incident may be reported as a breach of the Code of Behaviour.

    2.1 Duty to complyEach Macquarie University representative should:

    a. Comply with, and require any other body or person in membership with or affiliated with it, to comply with thisCode of Behaviour

    b. Adopt appropriate procedures for monitoring compliance with this Code of Behaviour by persons under itsjurisdiction or under the jurisdiction of other bodies in membership with or affiliated with it

    c. Promptly report to Macquarie University or event organisers, any potential breach of this Code of Behaviouof which it becomes aware

    d. Ensure that all persons understand the requirements of this Code of Behaviour and where necessary havethe details explained to him/her

    2.2 What happens if this Code is breached?If Macquarie University or the event organisers receive information which any of them consider may be in breach of this

    Code, Macquarie University shall:(i) investigate the alleged breach, and if satisfied that a breach may have occurred impose a penalty or

    penalties as outlined below.

    2.3 What Penalties Can be Imposed?

    Exclusion from all or part of the sporting competition

    Suspension or expulsion from future Australian University Sport or Macquarie University events

    Termination of membership to the Macquarie University team

    Removal from the team and immediate deportation to Sydney

    Additional costs associated with subsequent breaches to be met by the individuals or teams concerneda) These can include damages b)Forfeit fines c) Disciplinary hearing fees

    Retention of University Results due to failure to pay fines or leave the team when asked.

    withdraw any or all awards, placings and records obtained by that person or that persons team, during the event

    In addition the person may be disciplined by the university, which they represent, and/or be prosecuted by the Police.
