Setup EW-7416APn as Universal Repeater using the Installation Wizard
Step 1 : Check your router IP address. - Connect a computer to your router, click Start>All Programs>Accessories>Command
Prompt. - At the Command Prompt, type ‘ipconfig’ and press Enter.
- Write down the Default Gateway and Subnet Mask. The Default Gateway is your router IP address. In this example, we use 192.168.1.1.
Step 2 : Decide what IP address you can use for EW‐7416APn. If your router IP address is 192.168.1.1, you can assign EW‐7416APn to use 192.168.1.50. Step 3 : If the wireless router is security enabled, write down the network/encryption key. In this example, we presume the key is 12345678. If you don’t know the key, please ask the person who set up the wireless router.
Step 4 : Connect the EW‐7416APn using an ethernet cable to your computer. Do not connect your computer to your router wirelessly. We recommend you to disable your wireless connection at this point. Also, disable all firewall eg: Norton/Zone Alarm.
Step 3 : Insert the Setup Wizard CD into your CD‐ROM drive. The Setup Wizard should run automatically. (If it does not, double‐click the “AP wizard” icon in the CD‐ROM drive).
Step 4 : Now, just follow what the wizard’s instructions.
4.1 The Wizard will find the EW‐7416APn.
4.2 Enter the default password (1234) of the Edimax access point.
4.3 Select Manually Assign an Address. Change the IP address to your network range as you have written down in Step1 and 2.
4.4 Select the “Repeater Mode”. Click Next.
4.5 The SSID (The wireless name of the EW‐7416APn) is Edimax AP. Click Next.
4.6 Select your wireless router. Click Next.
4.7 Enter the network key of the wireless router into Pre‐shared key (The network key you have written down in Step 3). If no security is set in your wireless router, this page will not pop up.
EW‐7416APn only supports WEP, WPA(TKIP) or WPA2(AES). If you use mix encryption eg: WPA2(TKIP)/AES, it won’t support.
4.8 The Wizard is ready to connect the EW‐7416APn to the wireless router.
4.9 Click “Finish”.
Step 5 : Test the connection. Power off the EW‐7416APn and unplug the ethernet cable from your computer.
- Locate the EW‐7416APn about 5‐6 meters away from your wireless router and power it on.
- Enable the wireless connection in your computer. Connect your computer wirelessly to the wireless router and make sure you have internet through your router wirelessly. Then, do a ping test.
- Click Start>All Programs>Accessories>Command Prompt. - at the Command Prompt, type ping ‘the IP address of your EW‐7416APn’ and press Enter.
- if you receive 4 Reply from the EW‐7416APn, the repeater is working. If it’s not working, please check:
a) Please note that some mix encryptions may not compatible with EW‐7416APn. If that is the case, disable the encryption in your wireless router and set up the repeater without encryption. Once the repeater is working, you can then apply the same encryption in both router and EW‐7416APn. EW‐7416APn only supports WEP, WPA(TKIP) or WPA2(AES).
b) Please check if you have Mac Filtering enabled in your wireless router.
