EXCO CITY Int’l Student Marketing Competition
One-on-one Procurement Meetings
GREEN MICE Booth Design Contest The contest aims to encourage exhibitors and exhibition design companies to demonstrate their creativity and capability in promoting Green MICE. The goal is to improve resource eciency while reducing energy consumption, waste and the negative impacts on environment. The evaluation criteria include overall design & creativity, energy saving, reduce & reuse, eco & low-pollution, and green booth management. The awards will be presented in the welcome party on Sep. 27 with prizes of NTD 100,000, 50,000 and 30,000 to the top three winners respectively.
EXCO CITY Int’l Student Marketing CompetitionThe competition will be held in the show to challenge the gifted brains to bring up fresh ideas. Their overall performance will be judged by the merit of the presentations, marketing plans, creative concepts, booth designs and reception skills. The main topic this year is set on “Green MICE”, exploring the creative applications of reusable materials in exhibition designs. Also, the proposal should be associated with unique resources and specic visions of a certain city. This requires thorough understanding of its cultures, industries, infrastructure, prospects and other distinguishing features. Each team will showcase an integrated branding strategy for future MICE developments in EXCO TAIWAN. The participants include MICE related academic organizations in Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia.
Online MICE Monopoly (for Taiwan nationals only)EXCO TAIWAN’s “MICE Monopoly” will be going online to challenge the people’s knowledge of Taiwan’s Green MICE industry. You get to roll the dice and travel between major venues, holiday destinations and int’l trade fairs in Taiwan. Points are given at each stop by answering the relevant questions correctly. One may share his/her
achievements on facebook and plurk, and enter the lucky draw for over 100 points in total. The prizes include the new iPad wi, ADATA 1TB portable hard drive, Taipei-Hongkong business class airline ticket and many other amazing surprises.

Foreword
4
From Sep. 27 to 29, more than 9 areas will be showcased in EXCO TAIWAN 2012 proling the entire MICE supply chain. A special feature focus - DIGITAL vs. LIVE - has been set by the organizer TAITRA to explore novel possibilities developed through new technologies. The theme will focus on key issues such as the social media, mobile applications, green designs, exhibit technologies and creative facility services.
International key players and local talents will all gather here to proudly present their ground-breaking ideas and extraordinary services. This is THE place to get a glimpse of the coming future in advance.
Digitized MICE FlourishingSince the MICE industry is based on facilitating interactions and information exchanges, a huge challenge will be the extension of communications to match the technology of the the new digital era. The world and market has changed with new tools like APPs or e-medias to inspire more productive connections during pre-show or post-show periods.
This builds upon the evolution of the internet which has blossomed into websites, instant messaging, blogs and now social medias. Nearly all information is digitalized and can be transfered and shared around the world in split seconds. Meanwhile, on-line social interaction is showing promising potential to shift the norms of CRM and marketing channels.
The show is keen to leap a step ahead of competition by answering the big question of “What’s next?”. With new media, new tools and new services emerging, products and ways of business are evolving.
Live Experience in ActionSo, is a virtual world the nal destination? Apparently not. Another important trend is the growing demands for exceptional live events. When repeatedly swamped in excessive information, people tend to seek for unique and memorable experiences. The core value of MICE lies in "being there", the face-to-face communications. It's just as important to cultivate on-line relationships as to improve on-site experience.
Audiences often nd themselves absorbed in the sensational impact and radiating charm of live performances. It’s about story-telling and arousing emotional responses, a smart way to convey a message to the masses. Most performances are based on culture, and for the MICE industry, the cultural characteristics and
elements of the destination are quite crucial. Whether travelling for business or recreation, people expect to experience a dierent and sometimes eye-opening experience. Aside from entertainment, live performances can bring the exact ambiance desired by the organizer be it relaxed, energetic, reserved, elegant or imperial. When it comes to branding, that mix of perceptions whether it’s for exhibitions / conventions / tours / events, the added feature can mean everything.
At EXCO TAIWAN 2012, a special exhibition area featured “Performance Service” was initiated to create a strong network between performance and MICE professionals.
The Win-Win ExhibitionDigital interaction and live experience are not opposing but actually complementary concepts. Combined they form complete customer conceptions. In the near future, one will need creative contents to enrich the experience and digital technologies to optimise the interface. With Taiwan praised for both its international standing in MICE competitiveness and high level of ICT, this is the place to be to catch the latest trends.
By embracing the entire supply chain of all needs and the emerging “Digital vs. Live” dialect, the show opens up countless highly protable opportunities for MICE professionals. Moreover, it is denitely the best hub to enter the thriving Taiwan market and bridge the Pan-Asian (especially China) business.
Being part of the future is never enough. EXCO TAIWAN is where we make future happen.

Taichung’s MICE Advantages
Prominent IndustriesTwo of Taiwan’s world-leading industry clusters are located in Taichung, the bicycle and the precision machinery industry. A strong base of exhibitors has been established to support related international trade shows to thrive in the future.
Global NetworksThere are many reputed academic organizations and social groups in Taichung that keep close relationships with global peers. They are actively applying for hosting annual meetings and conferences to enhance interactions and strength social networks.
Holiday DestinationsTaichung is well-know for creating pop culture trends and its fashionable city tourism. In addition, exquisite natural sceneries are just a stone’s throw away. Xitou Forest Recreational Area and Sun Moon Lake Scenic Area are two must-sees for tourists who come to Taiwan. One may enjoy both urban and nature’s pleasures when visiting Taichung.
Transportation ServicesTaichung Airport now provides international ight services to China, Hongkong, Vietnam, and Macau. With the expansion of the airport, more ights connecting to major South-East Asia cities are expected.
Regional EconomyTaichung plays a dominant role among cities in Central Taiwan. It integrates regional economic powers and holds the key to enter vast local markets. Making the rst stop here is an absolute priority.
The World Trade Center (WTC) Taichung started operating in 1990 with 247 booths, an auditorium and several conference rooms, positioned to be the regional center for Central Taiwan’s major conferences and B2C exhibitions. Though mainly targeting local MICE markets, it was the rst exhibition organizer in Taiwan to arrange cross-strait exchanges early in 2005. WTC Taichung believes that the prospects of the city’s MICE industry are brightening with signicant infrastructure and venue constructions, such as the Taichung Exhibition & Convention Center.
Ample practical experiences, local knowledge and international connections accumulated over the years have secured WTC Taichung a substantial lead in future competitions. The management team plans to explore the possibilities of running other new venues in Taichung as well, gaining growth alongside its rising status in Taiwan’s MICE industry.

To revitalize and upgrade the competitiveness of traditional industries in Taiwan, a series of projects were sponsored by the Department of Industrial Technology, Ministry of Economic Aairs and administered by the Metal Industries Research & Development Centre. The printing industry, facing harsh challenges from the digital media in the internet age, was among one of them.
Hence the Printing Technology Research Institute (PTRI) was invited to join the team for fresh ideas and professional insight. After much diligent brainstorming, a “Product Development Union for Creative MICE Printing Services” was initiated expressly to serve the soaring Taiwan MICE industry.
PTRI believes that many advanced printing technologies bear the potential to provide new high value-added products but haven’t been fully utilized due to the information asymmetry between industries. The main mission of this newly formed union is to build a robust communication platform to meet every nned and demand. SUN SUI PRINT, RED & BLUE COLOR PRINTING,
DAYEH PAPER, CHARMING ART and MINIANGEL ADVERTISING are the rst ve company members. Each of them are masters a cutting-edge technology but all are based in northern Taiwan. The plan is to establish a successful business model in Taipei, the capital with the most active MICE city, and then gradually duplicate it to others.
The more mature its MICE industry, the more developed a city is. Taipei is the rst city in Taiwan to embark on international exhibitions and conventions. Over the years, its prestigious performances have readily received recognition and made consistent appearance in many top rankings globally. In 2011 ICCA Top 20 Rankings for cities, it appeared at 20th worldwide and 4th in Asia. Additionally, in Best Travel Poll 2011 held by the renowned online travel magazine Smart Travel Asia, it was listed 10th in Top 10 Asia Holiday Destinations and 7th in Top 10 Asia Cities for Business. Furthermore, according to statistics announced by UFI, Taiwan came in 7th regarding gross exhibition space rented in Asia, while major exhibitions such as COMPUTEX TAIPEI (2nd biggest worldwide), TAIPEI CYCLE (biggest in Asia) and Taipei Int’l Travel Fair (biggest in Asia Pacic area) are all organized here and have grown steadily year by year.
Mega Events & Major Venues in LineLately several triumphant mega events have brought the world’s attention on the city, namely the 2009 Deaympics Taipei, 2010 Taipei Int’l Flora Expo and 2011 Taipei World Design Expo & IDA Congress. Throughout a series of successes, global perspectives and operation
prociency have been built up to advance competitive edges. It’s noteworthy that Taipei will be hosting the 2017 Universiade (World University Games) and is currently bidding for 2016 World Design Capital with high hopes.
The Department of Information and Tourism of Taipei (referred to as DIT Taipei hereafter), the ocial representative in charge of promoting MICE, plays a key role in integrating and coordinating both government and private resources. It has been assisting exhibition & convention organizers and industry associations with diligent eorts to achieve higher ambitions. Taipei is positioned to be “The Best Stop to Meet Asia” by emphasizing the city’s 5Vs - very convenient, very comprehensive, very friendly, very entertaining and very outstanding.
DIT Taipei will focus on “Trend” in EXCO TAIWAN. Two special topics, “Taipei x Global MICE Leading Trends” and “Taiwan’s Premium Industries x Taipei’s MICE Industry”, will be presented on-site. Through demonstrating successful cases and interacting face-to-face, DIT Taipei promises to deliver refreshing images and perspectives of the city to all visitors.
