disposal of the craftsman, to bring to life creations embodying the concept of unrestricted creativity, that would be impossible to make using traditional production processes, but that uphold the

criteria of formal beauty of Italian culture.

Here then in the rounded and compact shape of the sintered nylon diffuser we perceive the delicate armour of the elytra, which reveals the light source within. The visual play continues and suggests, in the crafted ceramic base too, new parts and comparisons.

MAGGIOLINA is a metamorphosis that is inspired by the incredible world of entomology. It is a curious subject, but one that boasts an illustrious precedent: it was in fact Kafka who talked about how one could wake up transformed into an insect. The beetle that becomes a lamp.

CORA and LEA are two hanging lamps with decidedly feminine lines and a retro inspiration. On the one hand the volumes of the lampshades are reminiscent of the soft, rounded shapes of the sixties. On the other, there is a strong decorative note that is evocative of guilloches, with their subtle decorations of metals and filigrees of the late 19th century.

But rather than being engraved on a solid material, these lines become the structure of the lampshade itself, creating a weave with a highly decorative impact. The continuity of the structure of the lampshade, which has an ethereal appearance, gives the lamp solidity.In addition, the geometric decoration that is such a feature of the lamp once it is illuminated, is projected into the surroundings, enriching the room’s surfaces with a new texture.

A concept borrowed from botanical science to define its nature and reveal its intimate essence: the new collection of lamps for exnovo by Alessandro Zambelli takes its name from AFILLIA, in nature a plant without leaves. Emptiness and fullness, strength and lightness: space and its paradoxes.

Rarified materials - the vacuum crosses between them - to create compact auras; air and light as true ‘building components’ of the object. And further, beauty and rationality, tradition and innovation: the old story of materials used in combination with the innovative technology of sintering.

The ellipsis shape and the three-dimensional effect of the elements on the lamp surface remind the carapace of an armadillo. The structure is light but strong; it keeps its energy, but it can also set it free, thanks to plays of light.

The flat base can be used in many different ways: as a wall bracket lamp, in a horizontal or vertical position, or put directly on a plane without other supports.

Bolle series is very light and evanescent, but the three-dimensional structure makes it very strong. Inspired by soap bubbles, its shape gives the sensation of a structure that arises from the creation of a soft foam. The sphere is perfect in its simplicity as the bubble.

When a bubble joins other bubbles, they look like starlets: they push and overlap each other with lightness, elegance and cynicism, to show their best. They become foam, wild but fascinating. The items of Bolle series are high design furnishings. Thanks to their white colour, they can decorate various places: a modern office, a city flat or a luxury interior.

Kaa, one of the characters of “The jungle book” by Kipling, is an Indian python molurus, that often shows off its enchanting abilities. The table lamp Kaa is inspired by the hypnotic eyes of this funny snake in this way, the magic play of lights is assured!

Inspired by the underwater world, MEDUSA reflects the ethereal lightness and elegance of marine life. The blend of transparent resin and white polyamide, allows the light to fluctuate between different textural elements, playing with the ever-changing reflections and refractions.

When you turn on the NOTTE CLUSTER lamp, with 5, 7 or 9 elements positioned at varying heights, it immediately brings to mind the night sky adorned with celestial bodies.

Notte is also the name of one of Pluto’s satellite. This lamp is composed by four spherical lighting bodies, that are hanging from a single straight slat. The result is the following: celestial bodies fluctuating in the night sky. Notte is a modular chandelier: the possibility of combining several modules, side by side or lined up, makes it versatile and creates suggestive plays of light.

Plissè lamp is inspired by fashion, in particular by pleated fabric. This lamp represents the demanding craftmade imperfection of the pleats, all similar, but at the same time different from each other.

The name of the lamp Plüne is made from two words in the Ladin language: ‘Pluma’, which means feather and ‘lunè’ which means to illuminate. With a little bit of imagination and just a touch of a French accent, the word “PLÜNE” is born.

The feather in itself conveys the idea of lightness but it could also be a wish for a beautiful evening and a good night. Sweet dreams!

The PNEU HANGING lamp is a suspended lamp. Its size lends itself to illuminating warm and inviting rooms. The lamp’s somewhat severe shape is softened by the pattern printed around it which is reminiscent of lace.

Saturn has a huge system of rings, consisting mostly of ice particles and silicate powders. The rings give the feeling of dynamic power and emphasize the planet uniqueness and charm. Saturno lamp hides the planet behind the light source and takes the planetary orbits to extremes, turning them into countless irregular light whirls.

The new hanging version of the SATURN lamp seems to be floating freely, just like a planet. The light shines through the rings making up the shade, creating intriguing variations in the illumination.

The SATURNO CLUSTER is made up of a cluster of lamps (5, 7 or 9) which, with their shades suspended at varying heights, create a dynamic effect reminiscent of the celestial firmament illuminated by stars and planets.

The unusual form of the HANGING SPRING lamp gives the impression of a flying saucer suspended in space. The light that filters through the very complex weave of the surface makes it something special, with its multiple facets and details.

SPRING lamp is inspired by the flexibility of the springs. As the spring buckles compressing and lenghtening itself, to take its original form again, so Spring lamp, soft to the touch, bends the light and makes it exploding on the walls.

Supernova or Taraxacum Officinalis? It doesn’t matter, if the effect is a double soul lamp, capable of exploding the light and projecting a great number of stars on your walls! In the image of a supernova, the expansion of the gases takes place in concentric rings. SUPERNOVA lamp shows the expansion on three levels: the internal sphere, the external one and the room walls.

A subtle and light band with an elliptical cross section whirls around on its axis. Just like a dancer’s gown, it spreads out and then closes in on itself. The light accompanies and takes part in the movement of the “gown”, playing with it, defining its perpetual motion.

The intellectual class of enlightenment is our favourite, and even today it still seems to be the only solution. As in the definition of Enlightenment, the light of reason is the “content” needed to emerge from religious obscurantism, so in the bottle, the “light contained” is the only possible reading of the object. Table lamp or freestanding lamp, in five variations of design and size, VOLTAIRE is capable of illuminating both writing and reading, softening its intensity and temperature so as to create a warm light full of atmosphere.

A joint, whose internal geometric complexity is achievable only through the production possibilities offered by rapid prototyping, it is kept in balance by the tension of three elastic bands that function in much the same way as a muscle with a joint. That is the principal element of the Trick lamp. A light, articulated arm, in which sophisticated sintering technology takes on a clear and simple form that interacts with an almost fun-like element such as elastic. The LED light source helps reduce power consumption, and the size and weight of the diffuser, while the power cable is hidden within the structure, running through the joints themselves.

Bolle series is very light and evanescent, but the three-dimensional structure makes it very strong. Inspired by soap bubbles, its shape gives the sensation of a structure that arises from the creation of a soft foam. The sphere is perfect in its simplicity as the bubble.

When a bubble joins other bubbles, they look like starlets: they push and overlap each other with lightness, elegance and cynicism, to show their best. They become foam, wild but fascinating. The items of Bolle series are high design furnishings. Thanks to their white colour, they can decorate various places: a modern office, a city flat or a luxury interior.

Dopo una laurea in Interior Design conseguita presso il Politecnico di Milano, Serena Confalonieri lavora in alcuni importanti studi di architettura e design tra Milano, Barcellona e Berlino. Ora è una designer indipendente che vive e lavora a Milano, sviluppando progetti di interior, graphic e textile design e collaborando con aziende quali Nodus, cc-tapis, Wall&decò. I suoi lavori si posizionano a cavallo tra il design di prodotto ed il disegno grafico, ed, in essi, e’ sempre presente un’attenta ricerca sulle superfici. I suoi progetti Cattedrale e Santissimi della collezione Ambrosiana esposti durante la Milano Design Week, le valgono, la Menzione d’Onore al designer del Young&Design Award 2014. Dal 2014 inizia la collaborazione con .exnovo.

After a Master Degree in Interior Design at Politecnico di Milano, Serena Confa-lonieri works in many architecture and design practices in Milano, Barcelona and Berlin. Now she is an indepen-dent designer based in Milano, working on interior, graphic and textile design projects and collaborating with impor-tant design companies such as Nodus, cc-tapis, Wall&decò. Her works are pla-ced inbetween product and graphic desi-gn: an accurate research on the surfaces is always present in her projects. She gets a Mention of Honour to the designer at the Young&Design Award 2014, thanks to her projects Santissimi and Cattedra-le, both part of Ambrosiana collection presented during Milano Design Week 2014. In 2014 she starts the collabora-tion with .exnovo.

Marco Lafiandra è nato a Bari nel 1983. Ha conseguito il diploma di laurea presso l’Università La Sapien-za di Roma. Durante il suo ultimo anno di studi ha frequentato anche l’Università Politecnica di Valencia e il Politecnico di Milano. Attualmente vive e lavora a New York come designer. Durante gli studi ha sviluppato interessi in diversi ambiti, con numerose esperienze nel campo del design e della fotografia. Marco impiega la sua esperienza per dar vita a un processo unico: dalla ricerca mi-nuziosa, alla sintesi delle idee raccolte, con una buona dose di cuore.

Marco Lafiandra was born in Bari in 1983. He obtained a master de-gree in Industrial Design in 2009 at the University of Rome “La Sapien-za”. During his last year of studies he also attended the Universitat Politech-nica de Valencia and the Consortium of Politecnico di Milano. He currently lives and works in New York as a designer. Through his years of studying he deepened his interests through a number of parallel expe-riences in the field of photography and design. He applies his experience to create a unique process. Starting with painstaking research, a synthesis of collected ideas and a good measure of heart.

Selvaggia was born in Trento. She’s graduated in the Architecture Depart-ment at Milan Polytechnic. During her university studies she cultivated her in-terest in the Graphic Arts, enrolling on an Illustration course at the European Design Institute in Milan, at the same time developing research in the pictorial field. Nato nel 2008, con sede a Milano, 4P1B è uno studio di design che opera nel mondo della progettazione con la convinzione che ogni cosa sia proget-to. Per questo motivo la sua attività spazia dal mondo del mobile all’illu-minazione, dall’allestimento al retail. 4P1B lavora quindi in ambiti diversi sviluppando soluzioni sia per prodotti di massa che dedicandosi alla speri-mentazioni in piccole edizioni limi-tate. Based in Milan, 4P1B Design Studio operates in the world of design since 2008 and its philosophy is founded on the strong belief that everything is design. Because of this, its work ran-ges widely from furniture to lighting, from exhibitions to retail designing, from complex concepts to minute details. Franz è un artista e scultore di Orti-sei, Val Gardena. Frequenta la scuola d’arte di Ortisei e fa apprendistato in diverse botteghe. Negli anni ‘80 apre un suo studio. Diplomato in maestro scultore, da vita a molte mostre perso-nali a Fiè allo Sciliar, Merano, Tirolo, Bolzano, Venezia, Verona e Parma e partecipa ad alcune mostre collettive. Nel 2013 entra nel mondo della stam-pa 3D e sperimenta in prima persona le possibilità offerte dalla tecnologia. Da qui nasce la collaborazione con .exnovo, in un mix di arte e tecnica che fonde tradizione e innovazione.

Franz is an artist and sculptor from Ortisei, Val Gardena. He’s attended the Ortisei School of art and he’s done an apprenticeship in various work-shops. In 80’s he opened his own ate-lier. Graduated as master sculptor, he’s organized many exhibits: Fiè allo Sci-liar, Merano, Tirolo, Bolzano, Venice, Verona and Parma. He’s taken part in various common exhibits. In 2013 his research expanded into the world of 3D Printing and he went through the opportunities that the technology offers. From here on the collaboration with .exnovo started, creating a mix of art and technology and merging tradi-tion and innovation.

Alessandro vive e lavora a Mantova. Si specializza in Disegno Industriale e Tecnica dei Materiali presso la Fon-dazione Cova e nel 2000 inizia la sua attività professionale con Agape. A partire dal 2003 intraprende la li-bera professione. Crea così Alessandro Zambelli Designstudio, attività pre-valentemente dedicata all’industrial e product design. Non vive mai il suo lavoro come puro esercizio di stile: pensa sia indispensabile che ogni og-getto sia illuminato da un’anima. Dal 2013 inizia la collaborazione con .ex-novo. la sua creazione Afillia è entrata nell’ADI Design Index 2014.

Alessandro lives and works in Man-tua. He studied industrial design and materials engineering at the Cova School of Design in Milan, and his career took off at bathroom designer Agape in 2000. A few years later, in 2003, he founded Alessandro Zambel-li Designstudio, activities mainly de-dicated to industrial and product de-sign. He never sees his work purely as an exercise in style. He believes an in-ner soul must enliven every object. In 2013 he began a collaboration with .exnovo. One of its creations Afillia entered the ADI Design Index 2014.

Gio ha conseguito il master degree in Design presso il Politecnico di Milano nel 2007. Si occupa oggi di grafica, prodotto e interior design. Tutto ciò che progetta deriva dall’attenzione a cosa c’è intorno, vivo o inanimato che sia. Se c’è un limite tra arte e design, lui cerca di superarlo, reinventando tutta la compli-cità tra esseri umani e oggetti. Questa è la ragione per la quale lui crede che rituali, memoria e immaginazione sia-no spesso l’essenza delle cose. Stefano è nato a Fiorenzuola d’Arda. Si laurea al Politecnico di Milano, facoltà di Dise-gno Industriale. Dal 2013 collabora con Gio Tirotto come freelance designer e light developer. Nello stesso anno è ini-ziata la loro collaborazione con .exnovo.

Gio has obtained his Master degree in Design at Politecnico University of Mi-lan. His projects include graphic, pro-duct and interior design. Everything he designs comes from the attention towards what’s around him, living or inanimate. If there is a limit between art and design, he tries to erase it and re-design all the existing complicity among human beings and objects. This is the reason why he believes that rituals, memory and imagination are often the essential function of things. Stefano was born in Fiorenzuola d’Arda. He’s gra-duated at Politecnico di Milano, faculty of Industrial Design. In 2013 he beca-me a freelance designer and light deve-loper, collaborating with Gio Tirotto. In the same year their collaboration with .exnovo started.

Andrea è nato a Genova. Consegue maturità artistica e successivamente segue corsi presso la Facoltà di Archi-tettura di Genova . Negli anni suc-cessivi partecipa a numerose mostre collettive sia in Liguria che a Milano. Nel 1999 crea DAN design progetta-zioni e realizzazioni illuminotecniche (pezzi unici o a tiratura limitata) e progettazioni per ditte produttrici di apparecchi per illuminazione. Negli anni intercorsi dal 2004 al 2013 ha collaborato con alcune ditte di illumi-nazione per la progettazione di lam-pade. Nel 2012 è iniziata la collabo-razione con .exnovo.

Andrea was born in Genoa. He’s obtained his Artistic High School graduation qualification and later attended courses at the Faculty of Ar-chitecture in Genoa. In the following years he participated in various group exhibitions both in Liguria and in Milan. In 1999 Andrea created DAN design studio specialized in own li-ghting design and construction (uni-que pieces or limited edition), as well as lighting equipment design for ma-nufacturers. In the years from 2004 to 2013 he collaborated with a number of lighting companies for the design of lamps. In 2012 he started working with .exnovo.

Lanzavecchia+Wai è una collaborazio-ne creativa tra Francesca Lanzavecchia e Hunn Wai. Per loro essere designer significa essere ricercatori, ingegneri, artigiani e storyteller allo stesso tempo. Wai proviene da Singapore, educa-to come industrial designer presso la National University, mentre Lanza-vecchia è laureata in Product Design presso il Politecnico di Milano. Hanno iniziato la loro collaborazione presso la Design Academy di Eindhoven. Il prin-cipale interesse di Francesca si concen-tra sul rapporto che gli oggetti hanno e possono avere con il corpo umano e con l’anima. Wai è affascinato da contami-nazioni e fusioni di materiali, signifi-cati e forme. Dal 2013 collaborano con .exnovo.

Lanzavecchia+Wai is a creative colla-boration between Francesca Lanzavec-chia and Hunn Wai. To them, being designers means being researchers, engineers, craftsmen and story-tellers all at the same time. Wai hails from Singapore, educated as an industrial designer at the National University, while Lanzavecchia received her BA in Product Design from Politecnico di Milano. They began their cooperation at the Design Academy Eindhoven. Francesca’s main interest lies in the re-lationships objects have and can have with the human body and soul. Wai is fascinated by the collisions and fusions of materials, meanings and forms. In 2013 they started working with .ex-novo.
