This year is their 50th anniversary and some of their founders and members have a talk about the founding of their organization and a recall of the adversity that they have experienced. This event reminds every contemporary Filipino youth of what the youth before did, and of what the youth today have to do: continue the legacy and of the patriotic Filipino youth. The one that is very remarkable to me was the first speaker, Ka Bien. He was already teaching in Ateneo de Manila University when he joined the organization. He was persecuted. Other people told him that he just wasted his years of study and his profession when he joined that organization. I cannot forget when he noted that he has a book that he was not able to use since he decided to join the organization. That book is a representation of a thriving sacrifice that he made in order to devote his time and effort not for his own good but of course, for the betterment of our country. The Filipino youth before gave up their own desires and they stepped out of their comfort zone to serve our country. What they did was a very big act of courage. If it werent for their bravery, same Filipino youth organizations may have not existed today; the courage of Filipino youth may not be present today. Remembering what they did decades before must not only be reminisced. It must also be a starting point for every Filipino youths patriotic spirit that will eventually be turned into actions that will benefit our country.
