The Finnish system of higher education comprises universities and universities of applied sciences. The universities of applied sciences offer education tailored to the practical needs of working life – an appropriate mix of theory and practice. In addition to instruction, their tasks include applied research and development as well as regional development. The universities of applied sci-ences award both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. It takes 3.5 to 4.5 years to complete a Bachelor’s degree. After three years’ work experience, a student may commence studies leading to a Master’s degree.

The students’ workload is measured by ECTS credits based on the European Credit Transfer System; an annual workload of 1 600 hours is worth 60 ECTS credits. The extent of a Bachelor’s degree is 210–270 ECTS credits, depending on the field of study.

Finland is known for its clean, beautiful countryside: the “Land of a Thousand Lakes”, with its vast green forests, offers a great environment for different kinds of activities and for relaxing.

Finland is renowned for its high standard of education, quality of life, and health care; its open political environment and economic dynamism are also lauded. Finnish people generally lead a healthy lifestyle. The fact that Finland appears in Newsweek’s list of the best countries of the world is a testament to all these factors.

ENJOY YOURSELF IN SATAKUNTA!

The Faculty of Business and Culture at Satakunta University of Applied Sciences (SAMK) offers higher education in eight degree programmes leading to a Bachelor’s Degree, two of them in English. Furthermore, we offer two Master’s Degrees, one of which is taught in English.

The degree programmes in Finnish also include a considerable number of courses taught in English, which present exchange students several alternatives to choose from. In Finland, degree studies are tuition-free.

EASY LIVING ON FOUR CAMPUSES

The campuses of the Faculty of Business and Culture are situated in Pori, Rauma, Kankaanpää and Huittinen in the midst of city centres and services, but close to the nature. At SAMK we have about 6 500 students and in our faculty about 1 700.

The campus of Business and Culture Pori is one of the largest cam-puses at SAMK. Versatility is the best term to describe the campus that combines business administration, media and communication, business information systems and tourism studies all under one roof.

The campus of Business and Culture Rauma focuses firmly on business degrees. Four different degrees in business cover areas from interna-tional trade to logistics.

The campus of Business and Culture Kankaanpää is well-known for its long history of renowned art education. The made-to-measure teaching facilities create an excellent setting for evolving into an artist.

PUT THEORY INTO PRACTISE AT SAMK

At SAMK, students can concentrate on their strengths in their studies. In addition, international exchange studies, on-the-job-training, Bach-elor’s thesis, study projects and research, development and innova-tion (RDI) projects aim to advance learning and broaden the students’ knowhow. The RDI department of the faculty serves the enterprises and commu-nities in Satakunta by performing project work that incorporates both the students and the staff of SAMK. These projects benefit especially small and medium sized companies. For students, they are learning processes that provide them with excellent work experience during their studies.

At SAMK, we encourage students to become entrepreneurs already during their studies. SAMK’s Enterprise Accelerator offers support for the entrepreneurs-to-be also after graduation.

After graduation and three years of relevant work experience, you can apply to a Master’s degree programme at SAMK. It provides you with the same qualifications as a university level Master’s Degree.

The small and compact campus of Business and Culture Huittinen of-fers degree studies in business in accessible surroundings.

VIBRANTLY INTERNATIONAL

The Faculty of Business and Culture has several long-term partner universities around the world. Our networks cover most of Europe, but reach also China, Mexico, Korea, Thailand, Russia and USA.

In addition to student and staff mobility, we are constantly creating new ways of co-operating, e.g. common RDI projects, curricula co-operation and double degrees.

The faculty has forty international research partners and is a major player in the field of computational intelligence.

The study environment at the Faculty of Business and Culture is very international. Cross-cultural co-operation skills are integrated into teach-ing. Yearly, the faculty also hosts several visiting teachers from foreign

partner universities. In addition to them, foreign degree and exchange students are important in creating an international atmosphere in the campuses.

The faculty encourages students to do their internships abroad. At the moment SAMK is one of the leading universities of applied sciences in Finland when it comes to the percentage of internships done abroad.

We also recruit international interns to our offices in order to make the working environment international for all our staff.

Furthermore, SAMK mediates internship positions in Satakunta for stu-dents from partner universities around the world. We assist the incoming interns in practical matters such as accommodation and paperwork.
