180 degree rule The 180-degree rule is a basic guideline regarding the on-screen spatial relationship between a character and another character or object within a scene. This is the imaginary line called the ‘axis’ that you cannot cross, if you cross the line this is called ‘crossing or jumping the line’. The Camera may film from anywhere along this line as long as it does not cross the axis!

Shot-reverse-shotShot-reverse-shot is a

filming technique which shows you each side of the conversation. It is

the most commonly used shot when filming

dialogue between two characters. It starts off

showing the first character talking, then

shows the second character responding.

Match on action.Match on action is when

something happens in a scene, and there is a cut, when the scene is shown again everything has to be the same. This is an example of continuity editing, and helps

make the material more realistic and helps the audience to

continually understand what is happening.
