A. Arus Listrik
sebuah konduktor tiap satuan waktu .

A. Electric Current
Electric current is the flow of electric charges through a
conductor at any given time. The electric charges in an electric
current are carried by minute particles, that are electrons or positive
ions.
Solid, liquid and gases that carry electric current are called
conductors, the substances which cannot carry electric current are
called isolators, while the substances between conductors and
isolators are called semiconductors.
Electric current flow from location which has higher potential
to the location which has lower potential. In this case the potential
difference between two point (locations) which can produce electric
current is called electromotive force (emf). This electromotive force
can be produced by some substances called voltage sources, such as
voltaic cell, Daniel cell, Leclanche cell, battery, accumulator and so
forth.
The quantity that expresses electric current is called electric
current strength (usually just called electric current). In this case,
the electric current strength is defined as the amount of electric
flowing through the section of a conductor per unit of time.

Simbol kuat arus adalah I. Satuan kuat
arus listrik ialah Ampere yang diambil
dari nama seorang ilmuwan Perancis
yaitu : Andrey Marie Ampere (1775 –
1836).
Kuat arus listrik yang mengalir melalui sebuah penampang
konduktor dapat ditemukan dengan persamaan sebagai berikut.
I=
dengan : I = kuat arus listrik (A)
Q = jumlah muatan listrik yang mengalir (C)
t = waktu (s)
diberi nama khusus, yaitu ampere (A), dimana 1A=1C/s. Kuat arus
vektor. Rapat arus didefinisikan sebagai kuat arus listrik tiap satuan
luas penampang konduktor.

The Simbol of current strength is I. The
unit of electric current strength is
ampere which taken from a French
scientist is : Andrey Marie Ampere
(1775 – 1836).
The electric current strength flowing through a section of conductor
can be determined by the equation as follow.
I=
Where: I = electric current strength (A)
Q = the amount of electric charges flowing (C)
t = time (s)
In SI, the unit for electric current is coulomb (C), while the
time unit is second (s). Hence, the unit for electric strength in SI is
coulomb / second or C/s. This C/s was then given the name ampere
(A), where 1A = 1 C/s .Electric current strength is measured with
ampere meters or ammeter.
Electric current strength is a scalar quantity, but in physics
there is a quantity of current density (J) which is a vector quantity.
Current density is defined as electric current power per unit area of
conductor section.
Electrodynamics Page 7
Rapat arus dapat dinyatakan secara matematis dengan
menggunakan persamaan sebagai beikut.
J=
Dengan
J= rapat arus (A/m2)
A=luas penampang konduktor(m2)
Arus listrik diperoleh dari sumber arus listrik. Arus listrik dapat
dikelompokkan menjadi arus listrik searah (DC) dan arus listrik
bolak-balik (AC). Sumber arus listrik searah misalnya batu baterai
Contoh soal 1.1
Suatu konduktor dilewati muatan listrik 2,4 C dalam waktu 2
menit.
Tentukan :
a. Kuat arus listrik
b. Rapat arus jika luas penampang konduktor 0,2 x 10-6

Penyelesaian
a. Kuat arus Listrik
Karena Q = 2,4 C, dan t = 2 menit = 120 s, maka
I =
Electrodynamics Page 8
It can be expressed mathematically using the equation as follow.
J=
Where
J= current density (A/m2)
A= area of conductor section (m2)
Electric current is generated by its source. It can be classified
into direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC). Sources for
direct current are batteries and accumulator, for instance. Whereas
sources for alternating current are the National Electric Company
and alternating current generators, for example.
Sample problem 1.1
A certain conductor is passed through 2,4 C electric charges in 2
minutes
Determine :
a. electric current strength
b. current density if area of conductor section is 0,2 x
10-6
m2
Solution
a. Electric Current Strength
Because Q = 2,4 C,and t = 2 minutes = 120 s, then
I =
Electrodynamics Page 9

= 20 mA
Jadi, kuat arus listriknya adalah 20 mA
b. Rapat arus
J= =
= 105 A/m
2
Jadi, rapat arusnya adalah 105
A/m2
B. Hukum Ohm dan Hambatan Listrik
1. Hukum Ohm
Untuk menghasilkan arus listrik
diperlukan tegangan (beda potensial).
Hasil eksperimen George Simon Ohm
(1787-1854) menunjukkan bahwa arus
listrik yang mengalir pada kawat
penghantar sebanding dengan beda
potensial yang diberikan pada ujung-ujung penghantar itu.
Artinya, jika beda potensial diperbesar, arus yang mengalir
juga semakin besar. Sebaliknya, jika beda potensial diperkecil
arus yang mengalir juga makin kecil.
Electrodynamics Page 10
=
= 20 mA
Thus, the electric current strength is 20 mA
b. Current density
J= =
= 105 A/m
2
Thus, the current density is 105
A/m2.
B. Ohm’s Law and Electric Resistance
1. Ohm’s Law
It’s takes voltage (potential
difference) to generate electric current.
Experiment results by George Simon
Ohm (1787-1854) indicated that the
electric flowing through a conducting
wire is equivalent to the potential
difference applied to the both ends of
the wire. That means, the greater the potential difference , the
greater the flowing current. On the contrary, the smaller the
potential difference, the smaller the flowing current.
Electrodynamics Page 11
hambatan. Untuk nilai tegangan tertentu, semakin besar
hambatan, semakin kecil arus yang menglir. Ini berarti kuat
arus (I) berbanding terbalik dengan besar hambatan (R).
Berdasarkan hasil eksperimennya, Ohm memperoleh
kesimpulan penting yang selanjutnya dikenal sebagai Hukum
Ohm, yang menyatakan bahwa :
Besar arus dalam suatu penghantar sebanding dengan
tegangan (beda potensial) dan berbanding terbalik dengan
hambatannya.
Secara matematis, Hukum Ohm dapat dirumuskan dengan:
I=
Dengan :
V = tegangan (volt)
I = arus listrik (A)
R = hambatan listrik (Ω)
Berdasarkan persamaan diatas, besar hambatan adalah
dimana 1Ω =1V/A.
Electrodynamics Page 12
The value of electric current in a circuit is affected by its
resistance. For certain values, the greater resistance, the smaller
the flowing current is. It means that the electric current (I) is
inversely proportional to resistance(R).
Based on the experiment, Ohm made an important
conclusion that is now known as the Ohm’s, which states that
“the value of current in a conductor is directly
proportional to the voltage (potential difference) and inversely
proportional to its resistance.
The Ohm’s law can be mathematically formulated as :
I=
With:
V = voltage (volt)
I = electric current (A)
R = electric resistance (Ω)
Based on the equation, resistance is R= . Hence, the unit
for resistance can also be derived from the unit of voltage
divided by the unit of current magnitude or voltage / ampere.
This unit is equivalent with the SI unit for resistance (Ω),
where 1Ω =1V/A.
Electrodynamics Page 13
Pada kenyataannya, tidak semua komponen listrik
memenuhi hukum Ohm. Komponen-komponen listrik yang
memenuhi hukum Ohm disebut komponen Ohmik sedangkan
komponen-komponen listrik yang tidak memenuhi hukum
Ohm disebut komponen non-ohmik. Hambatan komponen
ohmik mempunyai nilai yang tetap meskipun tegangan
berubah, tetapi hambatan komponen non-ohmik mempunyai
nilai yang berubah ketika tegangan berubah.
2. Hambatan Listrik
semikonduktor. Konduktor memiliki hambatan yang kecil
sehingga daya hantar listriknya baik. Isolator memiliki
hambatan cukup besar sehingga tidak dapat menghantarkan
listrik. Sedangkan semikonduktor memiliki sifat diantaranya.
Electrodynamics Page 14
Actually, not all electric component comply the Ohm’s
law. The electric components which complied the Ohm’s law is
called ohmic components, while the electric components which
don’t comply the Ohm’s law is called non-ohmic components.
The resistance of ohmik components has constant value
although the voltage is changing, but the resistance of non-
ohmic component has changing value when the voltage is
changing.
2. Electric Resistance
Defining the magnitude of R (resistance) by Ohm was able
to motivate scientists to study the properties of a resistive
material and the result is all the material in nature has a barrier.
Based on this resistivity properties of the material are divided
into three conductors, insulators and semiconductors.
Conductor has a small barrier to good electrical conductivity.
Insulator has a large enough resistance so it can not conduct
electricity. A semiconductor has the nature of them.
Electric resistance is the property of any object or
substance to resist or oppose the flow of electric current. The
quantity of resistance in an electric circuit determines the
amount of current flowing in the circuit for any given voltage
Electrodynamics Page 15
Ohm.
Pada dasarnya nilai hambatan suatu bahan konduktor
dipengaruhi oleh tiga besaran yaitu sebanding dengan
panjangnya (l), berbanding terbalik dengan luas penampangnya
(A) , dan hambatan jenis bahan tersebut (ρ). Secara matematis
hambatan suatu bahan konduktor dapat ditentukan dengan
persamaan sebagai berikut.
Dengan
R = hambatan bahan (ohm, disingkat Ω )
ρ = Hambatan jenis bahan (Ω m)
l = panjang bahan (m)
A = luas penampang bahan (m2)
Hambatan bahan ditentukan oleh A, ρ dan L
Electrodynamics Page 16
applied to the circuit, and according to Ohm’s law principle.
Basically the resistance value of certain conductor
influenced by three quantities are proportional to its length (l),
varies inversely to its section area (A), and resistance types of
material (ρ). Mathematically the resistance of certain conductor
substance can be determined by the equation as follow.
Where
R = resistance of substance (ohm, abbreviated Ω )
ρ = resistivity (Ω m)
l = length of substance (m)
A = section area of substance (m2)
Resistance of substance is determined by A, ρ and l
Electrodynamics Page 17
Dalam fisika hambatan sering dihubungkan dengan
konduktivitas bahan, dimana
τ =
dengan
τ = konduktivitas bahan (Ωm)-1
ρ = hambatan jenis bahan (Ωm)
batas perubahan suhu tertentu, maka hambatan jenis suatu
bahan memenuhi persamaan sebagai berikut .
Dengan
ρ = hambatan jenis pada suhu T (Ωm)
ρ0 = hambatan jenis pada suhu T0 (Ωm)
α = koefisien suhu hambatan jenis ( 0C
-1)
ΔT = perubahan suhu (0C)
ρT = ρ0 (1 + α ΔT)
ρT - ρ0 = Δρ
ΔT=T-T0
Electrodynamics Page 18
In physics the resistivity, is often related with conductivity,
where
τ =
Where
τ = conductivity of substance (Ωm)-1
ρ = resistivity of substance (Ωm)
Resistivity and conductivity of certain substance is the
property of the substance which is not influenced by size and
form of the substance, but influenced by the change of
temperature. At limit of certain change of temperature, then the
resistivity of certain substance complies the equation as follow.
Where
ρ = resistivity at temperature T (Ωm)
ρ0 = resistivity at temperature T0 (Ωm)
α = temperature coefficient of resistivity (0C
-1)
ΔT = change of temperature (0C)
ρT = ρ0 (1 + α ΔT)
ρT - ρ0 = Δρ
ΔT=T-T0
Electrodynamics Page 19
Karena hambatan listrik (R) berbanding lurus dengan
hambatan jenis (ρ), maka berlaku
jenis bahan.
Nilai Hambatan jenis suatu bahan menentukan
kemampuan bahan tersebut dalam menghantahar listrik . Bahan
daca, sedangkan bahan semikonduktor seperti germanium,
silikon murni tentu mempunyai hambatan jenis diantara
hambatan jenis konduktor dan isolator.
RT = R0 (1 + α ΔT)
RT - R0 = ΔR
Electrodynamics Page 20
Because the electric resistance (R) is directly proportional
with the resistivity (ρ), then holds
The quantity of α from the equations above is called
temperature coefficient of resistivity and temperature
coefficient of resistivity, which depends on type of substance.
The value of resistivity of certain substance determines the
ability of the substance in the conductor electricity. Conductor
substances such as aluminum and copper have smaller resistivity
between the resistivity of conductor and isolators.
RT = R0 (1 + α ΔT)
RT - R0 = ΔR

C. Rangkaian Listrik Arus Searah
1. Hukum Kirchoff
Gustav Robert Kirchoff (1824-1887)
meneliti besar arus pada rangkaian
bercabang dan menemukan suatu
aturan yang kemudian dikenal
sebagai Hukum I Kirchoff tentang
titik cabang.
Kirchoff tentang loop.
Electrodynamics Page 26

R2 =
= 0,04375 Ω

Thus, the resistance of wire is 04375 Ω.
C. Electric Circuit of Direct Current
1. Kirchoff’s Law
Gustav Robert Kirchoff (1824-
1887) investigated the value of
current in branched circuits and
founded a rule later known as the
Kirchoff first law about current in a
branch point. Kirchoff also
investigated the value of voltage
(potential difference) in closed
circuits and then founded another
ruler later known as the Kirchoff’s second law that is the law of
loop.
Electrodynamics Page 27
a). Hukum I Kirchoff
Hukum I Kirchoff menyatakan bahwa :
Jumlah kuat arus yang memasuki suatu titik cabang
sama dengan jumlah kuat arus yang keluar dari cabang
itu.
Hukum I Kirchoff berkaitan dengan arus listrik pada
rangkaian bercabang.
Dalam bentuk persamaan, Hukum I Kirchoff ditulis :
∑Imasuk = ∑Ikeluar
Sebagi contoh , perhatikan Gambar dibawah ini.
Titik A merupakan titik cabang. Arus I1 dan I2 menuju
titik cabang itu, sedangkan arus I3 and I4 meninggalkan
titik cabang. Hitunglah besar I4 ?
Penyelesaian :
Berdasarkan hukum Kirchoff I
∑Imasuk = ∑Ikeluar
∑Imasuk = I1 + I2 = 10 + 5 = 15 ampere
Electrodynamics Page 28
a) Kirchoff’s First Law
The first Kirchoff law states that :
The value of current magnitude entering a branch point is
the same as the value of current flowing out of it.
Kirchoff’f I Law relates with electric current in the branched
electric circuit.
The formulation for Kirchoff’s I law is:
∑Iinput = ∑Ioutput
As an example, look at Figure below.Point A is the
branching point. Current I1 and I2 are flowing to that point,
while current I3 and I4 are leaving that point. Calculate the
value of I4 ?
Solution :
Based on Kirchoff’s I law
∑Iinput = ∑Ioutput
∑Iinput = I1 + I2 = 10 + 5 = 15 ampere
Electrodynamics Page 29
I3 = 8 A meninggalkan titik A
I4 harus keluar supaya seimbang
∑Ikeluar = I3 + I4 = 8 + I4
jadi,
∑Imasuk = ∑Ikeluar
I1 + I2 = I3 + I4
15 = 8 + I4
I4 = 15 – 8
I4 = 7 A, dengan arah keluar meninggalkan titik A
b). Hukum II Kirchoff
tertutup.Hukum II Kirchoff menyatakan bahwa :
Jumlah aljabar gaya gerak listrik ( ε ) dengan
penurunan tegangan (IR) yang membentuk suatu
rangkaian tertutup sama dengan nol.
Dalam bentuk persamaan, hukum II Kirchoff
ditulis dengan :
∑ ε + ∑IR = 0
Electrodynamics Page 30
I3 = 8 A is leaving point A
I4 must to leaving also balance so that
∑Ioutput = I3 + I4 = 8 + I4
So,
∑Iinput = ∑Ioutput
I1 + I2 = I3 + I4
15 = 8 + I4
I4 = 15 – 8
I4 = 7 A, with the direction the leaving point A
b) Kirchoff’s II Law
Kirchoff’s II law or loop relates with voltage and
electromotive force in closed electric circuit. Kirchoff’s II
law states that :
The algebraic value of electromotive force ( ε ) with
dropped potential (IR) closed circuit is equal to zero.
The formulation for Kirchoff’s I law is :
∑ ε + ∑IR = 0
Electrodynamics Page 31
Teorema Simpal digunakan untuk memecahkan
masalah-masalah pada rangkaian listrik tertutup. Dalam
menggunakan teorema ini kita memperhatikan beberapa
hal berikut ini :
1). Perhatikan kutub-kutub pada symbol sumber
tegangan searah, garis panjang merupakan kutub
positif, sedangkan garis pendek menunjukkan
kutub negative.
setiap percabangan. Arah tanda panah ini dapat
dipilih sembarang.
3). Gunakan hukum I Kirchoff pada setiap titik
cabang.
Arah
loop dipilih sembarang.
5). Dalam menjumlahkan beda potensial (tegangan)
secara aljabar, perhatikan ketentuan pemberian
tanda aljabarnya.
Untuk tegangan pada resistor :
- bernilai positif jika arus yang dipilih
searah dengan arah loop. (searah =
positif)
Electrodynamics Page 32
Loop theorem used to solve problems in the closed
electric circuits,. In using this theorem we have to consider
the following several things :
1). Watch the poles of DC voltage source, longer line
indicates the positive pole, whereas the shorter line
indicates the negative pole.
2). Add arrows to indicate the current direction at each
branched point. It can be chosen at will.
3). Use Kirchoff’s I law for each branching point.
4). Whenever there is more than one loop in a circuit, the
loop law applies to every loop. Loop’s direction can be
chosen at will.
5). In summing up the potential difference (voltage)
algebraically, pay attention to the regulation of giving
algebraic signs.
For the voltage resistors :
- It is positive if the direction of chosen current
is along the loop. ( same direction = positive)
Electrodynamics Page 33
- bernilai negatif jika arus listrik yang
dipilih berlawanan arah dengan arah loop
(berlawanan arah = negative)
Untuk tegangan pada baterai
- Bernilai positif jika loop bertemu baterai
dari arah kutub positifnya
- Benilai negative jika loop bertemu
baterai dari arah kutub negatifnya.
Contoh Soal
Electrodynamics Page 34
- It is negative if the direction of chosen
current is in opposition to the
loop.(opposite = negative )
For the voltage in batteries
- It is positive if the loop coincided with
the battery first at its positive pole.
- It is negative if the loop coincided with
the battery first at itsnegative pole.
Simple Problem
A circuit as shown in the figure below, the second
Kirchhoff law calculate the current flowing in the
circuit.
Electrodynamics Page 35
Suatu loop tertutup untuk menerapkan hukum II
Kirchhoff
1. Dipilih loop abdca, dengan arah dari a - b - d - c – a
2. Dengan menerapkan hukum II Kirchhoff:
6H+6(IR)=0 dan memperhatikan aturan yang
disepakati tentang tanda-tandanya, sehingga
diperoleh:
- ε2 + I R1 + I R2 - ε1 + I R2 = 0 atau
- ε1 - ε2 + I(R1 + R2 + R3) =0
I = = = = 1,5 A
d-c-a
2. Rangkaian Seri dan Paralel Resistor
Resistor adalah komponen elektronika yang berfungsi
sebagai penghambat arus listrik. Kemampuan menghambat
Electrodynamics Page 36
A closed loop to apply the second law of Kirchhoff
1. Abdca selected loop, with the direction of a - b - d -
c – a
2. By applying Kirchhoff's II law : 6H +6 (IR) = 0 and
consider the rules agreed on the signs, in order to
obtain:
- ε2 + I R1 + I R2 - ε1 + I R2 = 0 or
- ε1 - ε2 + I(R1 + R2 + R3) =0
I = = = = 1,5 A
Thus, the current flow is 1.5 A with from abdca
2. Series and Parallel Circuit of Resistor
Resistors are electronic components that function as
resistances for electric current. The current resisting ability of
resistors is indicated by its resistance.
Electrodynamics Page 37
Pada sebuah rangkaian listrik, resistor dapat dihubungkan
secara seri maupun paralel. Hambatan total resistor dari
hubungan seri dan paralel menunjukkan karakteristik yang
berbeda.
a. Rangkaian Seri Resistor
Rangkaian seri dua buah resistor
sama, sehingga
Berdasarkan Hukum Ohm (V=I.R), maka
V = V1 + V2
IR=IR1 + IR2
R = R1 + R2
Electrodynamics Page 38
In an electric circuit, resistor can be connected by series or
parallel. The total resistance of resistors from series connection
and parallel connection shows different characteristics.
a. Series Circuit Resistor
Series circuit of two resistors
Based on the figure above, then in the series circuit of
resistor, the voltage source (V) is divided into, V1 and V2,
While the electric current flowing through R1 and R2 are
same, therefore
Based on Ohm’s law (V=I.R), then
V = V1 + V2
IR=IR1 + IR2
R = R1 + R2
Electrodynamics Page 39
Dengan
V = tegangan sumber (volt)
V1 = tegangan pada R1 (volt)
V2 = tegangan pada R2 (volt)
R = hambatan total (Ω)
R1 = hambatan resistor 1 (Ω)
R2 = hambatan resistor 2 (Ω)
I = arus listrik (A)
Contoh Soal
Empat resistor masing-masing sebesar 15Ω , 24Ω , 25Ω ,
dan 36 Ω disusun secara seri dalam rangkaian. Tentukan
besar hambatan sebuah resistor pengganti (Rs) untuk
mengganti keempat resistor tadi !
Rs = R1 + R2 + … + Rn
Electrodynamics Page 40
Where
V = source voltage (volt)
V1 = voltage in R1 (volt)
V2 = voltage in R2 (volt)
R = total resistance (Ω)
R1 = resistance of resistor 1 (Ω)
R2 = resistance of resistor 2 (Ω)
I = electric current (A)
From the explanation above, then the series circuit is
the voltage divider circuit and can be used to increase the
resistance of the circuit. From n resistor which are
connected by series, then the total resistance can be
determined by the equation as follow.
Simple problem
Four resistors each of 15Ω, 24Ω, 25Ω and 36 Ω arranged in
series in the circuit. Determine the replacement of the
resistance of a resistor (Rs) to replace the four resistors that!
Rs = R1 + R2 + … + Rn

b. Rangkaian Paralel Resistor
Berdasarkan gambar di atas, maka rangkaian pararel

Solution
Rs = R1 + R2 + R3 + R4

b. Parallel Circuit Resistor
Based on the figure above, then in the parallel circuit of
resistor, the voltage source (V) is equal to V1 and V,
while the electric current I divided into I1 and I 2 ,
therefore
I = I1 + I2

Karena I = , maka
Berdasarkan uraian di atas, maka rangkaian pararel

3. Gaya Gerak Listrik dan Tegangan Jepit
a. Gaya Gerak Listrik
Beberapa alat seperti baterai dan generator listrik
dapat mempertahankan perbedaan potensial di antara dua
buah titk yang merupakan kutub-kutub sumber tegangan.
Alat-alat yang demikian dinamakan dengan tempat
kedudukan gaya gerak listrik.
dipindahkan. Simbol ε biasanya digunakan untuk ggl
(jangan kacaukan dengan E untuk medan listrik).

3. Electromotive Force and Clamping Potential
a. Electromotive Force
Some instruments such as battery and electric generator
can keep the potential difference between two point which
are the poles of the voltage source. Such instruments are
named by seat of electromotive force.
Electromotive force is defined as energy used to transfer
the positive charges from low potential point to higher
potential point per unit of charge transferred. The symbol ε is
usually used for emf (do not confuse with E for electric field).
ε =
ε = electromotive force (volt)

Electrodynamics Page 47
listrik yang mengalir melalui rangkaian (I=0), sehingga beda
listr (ε).
I = arus listrik (A)
r = hambatan dalam (Ω)
R = hambatan luar (Ω)
VAB = ε – Ir = IR
Electrodynamics Page 48
If the switch (S) is not connected, then there is no
electric current flowing through the circuit (I=0), therefore
potential difference between A and B (VAB) is equal to the
electromotive force (ε ). But if the switch (S) is connected, then
there is electric current flowing through the circuit, therefore the
potential difference between A and B (VAB) is not equal to the
electromotive force (ε). At the moment the switch is connected
(I≠0), which can be determined by the following equation
VAB = clamping potential ( volt)
ε = electromotive force (volt)
I = electric current (A)
r = internal resistance (Ω)
R = external resistance (Ω)
VAB = ε – Ir = IR
Electrodynamics Page 49

rs = r1 + r2 + …+ rn

The clamping potential between the poles of voltage is not
constant, but depends on the resistance value of the circuit
b. Source Voltage Circuit
Similar to resistor, then the source of voltage can be connected
by parallel or series, and of course will give the different
characteristics.
If several voltage sources are connected by series , then the
total electromotive force is

sedangkan hambatan dalam total ( pengsnti dari
rangkaian pararel sumber tegangan dapat ditentukan
dengan persamaan berikut ini .

Karena r1 = r2 = r3 = 1,5 V , maka
εtotal = 1,5 V + 1,5 V + 1,5 V= 4,5 V

If several voltage sources are connected by parallel,
then the electromotive force of the circuit is

D. Pengukuran Besaran-besaran Listrik
menunjukan nilai suatu besaran lisrtik seperti arus, muatan,
mempelajari beberapa pengukuran besaran-besaran listrik, yaitu
untuk arus, tegangan dan hambatan.
1. Pengukuran Arus

D. Measurement Of Electric Quantities
Electric meters are instruments for measuring and indicating
magnitudes of electric quantities values, such as current, charge,
potential, and power along with the electrical characteristics of
circuits such as resistance capacitance and inductance. In this sub of
chapter we will learn some measurement of electric quantities that
is for current, voltage and resistance.
1. Measurement of Current
To measure the electrical current strength in a series called
ammeters used tool. The most important part ammeter or
voltmeter is a galvanometer, a device that can detect a small
current through it. picture Galvanometer
Electrodynamics Page 55
Galvanometer bekerja dengan prinsip gaya antara medan
magnet dan kumparan pembawa arus yang dapat
menyimpangkan jarum magnetis yang terdapat dekat kumparan
tersebut.
Galvanometer dapat digunakan secara langsung untuk
mengukur arus DC yang kecil. Contohnya, galvanometer
Electrodynamics Page 56
Galvanometer working principle of the force between
magnetic field and current-carrying coil that can distort the
magnetic needle is located near the coil.
Galvanometer can be used directly to measure the DC
current is small. For example, 1m galvanometer with a
sensitivity of 50 mA can measure currents from 1 mA to 50
mA. To measure larger currents, a resistor in parallel with the
galvanometer. Ammeters the galvanometer consists of a
resistor in parallel with the resistor called a shunt ("shunt" is a
synonym for "parallel"). By installing a shunt resistor in
parallel then obtained a more accurate measurement of flow so
that excess electric current will flow into resistor shunt.

Penyusunan resistor shunt tampak seperti pada gambar

Gambar Amperemeter dirangkai dengan resistor (resistor shunt)
Sudut penyimpangan jarum magnetis berhubungan

n =

Preparation of the shunt resistor is shown in the picture below
The defection angle of the magnetized needle is related
to the quantity of the electric current flowing in the wire,
therefore by calibrating the magnitude of the deflection angle
for each value of electric current flowing by using a certain
scale, then the value of electric current can be determined.
If the current of complete scale in ammeter is expressed
with I which has value n times greater than the current of
complete scale in galvanometer (Ig), then the multiple of
maximum measuring limit of the ammeter can be determined
by the equation as follow

2. Pengukuran Tegangan
Voltmeter adalah alat ukur tegangan listrik. Voltmeter
kecil. Komponen dasar suatu voltmeter adalah galvanometer.
Galvanometer mempunyai hambatan yang sering disebut sebagai
hambatan dalam galvanometer, R .

2. Measurement of Voltage
A voltmeter is a voltage measuring instrument. Voltmeter is
often characterized by the symbol V on any electrical circuit.
Voltmeter shall be installed parallel with the ends of the resistance
to be measured potential difference. The use of a voltmeter to
measure electric potential difference .
Unit of electrical potential difference in volts or SI units
are given the symbol V. Voltmeter itself has a barrier so that
the voltmeter inserted causes an electric current passing
through the resistance R is slightly reduced. Ideally, a
voltmeter should have a very big obstacle to the reduced
electrical current passing through the resistance R is also very
small. The basic components of a voltmeter are a
galvanometer. Galvanometer has a resistance which is often
referred to as the bottleneck in the galvanometer, R.
Electrodynamics Page 67
Susunan suatu voltmeter dengan menggunakan galvanometer
ditunjukkan pada Gambar dibawah ini
Untuk mendapatkan pengukuran tegangan akurat,
maka hambatan suatu voltmeter dibuat jauh lebih besar
dari hambatan rangkaian. Sehingga untuk meningkatkan
kemampuan pengukuran suatu voltmeter, maka harus
dipasang resistor seri yang dihubungkan galvonmeter, hal
ini akan menyebabkan kelebihan tegangan akan diberikan
resistor seri.
skala penuh galvanometer (Vg), maka kelipatan batas ukur
maksimum voltmeter dapat ditentukan dengan persamaan
sebagai berikut.
Electrodynamics Page 68

To obtain the accurate measurement of voltage, then the
resistance of a voltage is made much greater than the circuit
resistance. Therefore to upgrade the ability of measurement of a
certain voltmeter, then must be set a series resistor which are
connected in series with the galvanometer, it will cause the
resistor surplus of voltage will given to the series resistor.
If the voltage of complete scale in voltmeter is expressed

3. Pengukuran Hambatan
Untuk mengukur hambatan listrik kita dapat
mengunakaan sebuah alat yang disebut ohmmeter. Pada
dasarnya ohmmeter dibuat sari rangkaian amperemeter, dimana
Electrodynamics Page 76
3. Measuring of Resistance
To measure the electric resistance we can be use an
instrument which is called ohmmeter. Basically ohmmeter is
made by ammeter circuit, where the electric current measured
by the ammeter and the emf (ε) known can be used to
determine the value of certain resistance (Rx) by a certain
calibration.
Usually the function of voltmeter, ammeter and ohmmeter
is combined in an instrument called multimeter.
Voltmeter, ammeter and ohmmeter principle explained
above is the analogue of voltmeter, ammeter and ohmmeter
principle. However, now beside those there are digital
voltmeter, ammeter and ohmmeter which can show the
measurement value of voltage, current and resistance in form
of numbers.
Electrodynamics Page 77
4. Rangkaian Jembatan Wheatstone
Wheatstone mengukur hambatan dengan
membandingkan arus yang mengalir melalui salah satu bagian
jembatan dengan sebuah arus yanag diketahui mengalair
melalui bagian lainnya. Rangkaian jembatan whewtstone
Electrodynamics Page 78
4. Wheatstone Bridge Circuit
Wheatstone measure the resistance by comparing the
current flowing through one part of the bridge with a known
current flowing through the other part. Wheatstone bridge
circuit has four arms, as shown in the following the figure
bellow.
From the figure above, resistance of R1 and R4 are made
constant, R3 is the resistance measured, while R2 is resistor
variable (usually used potentiometer) which the value of
resistance can be adjusted. R1, R2, R3 and R4 are connected as
in the figure above and set to the source of emf (ε) an a
galvanometer is used to know the existence of current in the
circuit.
Electrodynamics Page 79
seimbang. Jika jembatan wheatstone dalam keadaan seimbang,
maka berlaku persamaan sebagai persamaan sebagai berikut.
I1 R1 = I2 R2
dan
I1 R4 = I2 R3
Sehingga
R1 R3 = R2R4
Atau
R3= R4
Untuk mengukur hambatan Rx menggunakan rangkaian
jembatan wheatstone yang menggunakan kontak geser, maka
keadaan seimbang rangkaian diatur dengan menggerakkan
kontak geser sepanjang kawat logam sampai jarum
galvanometer menunjukan angka nol.
R l2 = Rx l1
atau
Rx = R
Electrodynamics Page 80
To measure the resistance of Rx, then the resistance of Rs
is adjusted until the galvanometer shows zero number (there is
no current in the circuit), and in this state the circuit in the
balance state. If the Wheatstone bridge circuit is balanced, then
holds the equation as follows.
I1 R1 = I2 R2
dan
I1 R4 = I2 R3
Sehingga
R1 R3 = R2R4
Atau
R3= R4
To measure the resistance of Rx using the wheatstone
bridge circuit that uses an fricative ignition, then the balance
state of circuit is adjusted by moving the fricative ignition as
long as the metal wire until the galvanometer needle shows
zero number. In the balance state the resistance of R1 and R2
can be determined from and R is the resistance known, then
R l2 = Rx l1
or
Rx = R

E. Energi Listrik Dan Daya Listrik
1. Energi Listrik
Energi adalah kemampuan untuk melakukan usaha. Maka
lain). Energi listrik dilambangkan dengan W.
Bila pada ujung-ujung suatu kawat penghantar yang
hambatannya R terdapat beda potensial V, maka di dalamnya
mengalir arus sebesar I = V/R . Untuk mengalirkan arus ini
sumber arus mengeluarkan energi. Sebagian dari energi ini
berubah menjadi kalor yang menyebabkan kawat penghantar
menjadi panas. Hal ini terjadi karena electron-elektron bebas
dalam kawat atom-atom kawat yang dilaluinya. Berdasar pada
hasil percobaan J.P. Joule, besarnya kalor yang timbul
ditentukan oleh factor-faktor :
1. besarnya hambatan kawat yang dilalui arus
2. besarnya arus yang mengalir
3. waktu atau lamanya arus mengalir
Electrodynamics Page 82
E. Electric Energy and Electric Power
1. Electric Energy
Energy is the ability to conduct effort. The definition of
electrical energy is the ability to conduct business or generate
electricity (capacity needed to move cargo from one point to
another). Electrical energy is denoted by W.
When the ends of a wire conductor of the resistance R are
the potential difference V, the current flowing in it for I = V /
R. For a current issue is the current source of energy. Much of
this energy is transformed into heat which causes the wire to be
conductor of heat. This happens because the electron-electron
atoms in the wire the wire in its path. Based on the results of
experiments J.P. Joules, the amount of heat that arises is
determined by the factors:
1. magnitude of current through a wire barrier
2. magnitude of current flowing
3. time or duration of current flow
Electrodynamics Page 83
W = Energi listrik (joule)
Q = Muatan listrik (Coulumb)
V = Beda potensial ( Volt)
Karena I = Q/t maka diperoleh perumusan
W = (I.t).V
W = V.I.t
sekon
Karena V = I R
maka W = I2
Karena I =
Maka W = t
Apabila semua energi listrik berubah menjadi kalor, maka
banyaknya kalor yang timbul W = 0,24 I2R t kalori
Electrodynamics Page 84
The amount of energy expended by a current source to flow of
electric current is: W = QV
with
W = electrical energy (joules)
The electric charge Q = (Coulomb)
V = potential difference (Volt)
Because I = Q / t is obtained by formulating
W = (I.t).V
W = V.I.t
Where: V in i in amperes and t in second
Because V = I R
then W = I2
Because I =
Then W = t
If all the electrical energy transformed into heat, then the
amount of heat that arising W = 0,24 I2R t kalori

W1 = 960 joule
2. Daya Listrik
tiap detik. Usaha yang dilakukan oleh sumber tegangan sama
dengan energi yang dikeluarkan sumber tegangan tersebut.
Jadi daya suatu alat listrik =

Berdasarkan persamaan energy listrik, maka daya listrik
juga dapat ditentukan dengan persamaan sebagai berikut.

b. I = = = 2A
W1 = (I2) . R1.T = (2

2. Electric Power
An electric power tool is a tool that the work done per
second. The work done by the source voltage equal to the
energy expended is the source voltage.
So the power of an electric appliance =
atau P =
Based on the equation of electrical energy, the electric

diberi nama khusus , yaitu watt(W).
tegangan (a) 220 V, (b) 110 V ?
Jawab
(a) P = I.V I =
= = 1,59 A.
= P P = = 138,29 Ω

Electric power unit is joules / second or J / s. This unit
was given a special name, the watt (W). On a variety of
everyday electrical appliances are usually included much
power is consumed and operating voltage so that we can
calculate the large currents flowing in the equipment.
Example question:
Written on an electric iron 350W/220V. What is the current
flowing in the iron when mounted on the voltage (a) 220 V, (b)
110 V?
Answer
a. P = I.V I =
= = 1,59 A.
b. Characteristics of equipment whose value is fixed in this
case is a large electrical resistance (R). If the iron is placed
at a voltage of 220 V power of 350 W, means:
= P P = = 138,29 Ω

satuan kWh (kilowatt jam ), dimana
1 kWh = (1000W) (1 hour)
1 kWh = (1000W) (1 jam)
1 kWh = (1000W) (3600 s)
1 kWh = 3,6 × 106 W
Karena 1 Ws = 1 joule, maka
1 W = 1
1 J = 1 W s
1 kWh = 3,6 × 106 joule
Electrodynamics Page 92
3. The Relation of Energy and Power Units
In SI unit system, electric power is expressed in watt,
while electric energy is expressed in Joule, so that from the
relation of power and energy of electric (W = P. t or P = ) is
obtained the relation of electric power and energy units as
follow.
or
In the everyday, electric energy is expressed in the unit of
kWh (kilowatt hour), where
1 kWh = (1000W) (1 hour)
1 kWh = (1000W) (1 jam)
1 kWh = (1000W) (3600 s)
1 kWh = 3,6 × 106 Ws
Because 1 Ws = 1 joule, then
1 W = 1
1 J = 1 W s
1 kWh = 3,6 × 106 joule
Electrodynamics Page 93
setiap pemakaian energy tiap kWh dikenakan biaya tertentu.
4. Kesetaraan Kalor dengan Energi Listrik
Teko listrik
energi listrik menjadi kalor.
berikut.
Electrodynamics Page 94
The consumption of electric energy in everyday life is
measured using “ kWh-meter” which can record the electric
energy consumption in a certain time period and energy per kWh
os given a certain constant.
4. Equivalence of Heat with Electric Energy
electric kettle
This electric kettle is one example of a tool that converts
electrical energy into heat.
In electric heaters occur the processes of change from
electric energy into heat, and in this case, the equivalence of
electric energy with heat can be expressed by the equation as
follow.

F. sTegangan AC dan DC

F. AC and DC Voltage
1. The Characteristic of AC and DC Voltage
Basically the current of electric charges (electric current)
passing through a certain circuit can be distinguished into
direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC). In the direct
current (DC), the electric charges flow in the one direction at
every moment, while in the alternating current (AC), electric
charges flow in a certain direction at certain moment and flow
in the opposite at another moment.
Direct current (DC) is produced by DC voltage source,
such as battery, voltaic cell, and accumulator, while alternating
current (AC) is produced by AC voltage source that is AC
generator , such as dynamo and most common in our country is
PLTA ( Water Power Plain) manage by PLN.
The value of alternating current and voltage always
changes to time, so that the measurement voltage of alternating
current and voltage by using an ammeter and voltmeter shows
the effective or rms (root mean square). In this case, the
effective value of alternating current or voltage is alternating
current or voltage assumed equivalent to the direct current or
voltage and produce the same heat in certain resistance at the
same time.
Electrodynamics Page 101
ditentukan.
Jika dibandingkan dengan arus searah, maka arus bolak-
balik mempunyai beberapa kelebihan, yaitu :
a. Mudah dipindahkan dengan menggunakan system
transmisi daya jarak jauh
b. Lebih mudah diputuskan dan aman untuk digunakan
c. Mudah dinaikkan atau diturunkan dengan menggunakan
transformator
dibuat
e. Alat-alat listrik yang menggunakan sumber listrik AC
lebih murah, sederhana dan mudah dibuat.
2. Listrik di Rumah Kita
Sebagian besar listrik yang digunakan dalam kehidupan
sehari-hari merupakan listrik AC yang biasanya mempunyai
tegangan efektif 220 volt. Arus listrik yang digunakan dirumah
dihubungkan dari gerdu menggunakan kabel penghubung
melalui kWh meter dan pemutus daya.
Electrodynamics Page 102
To observe the shape of the alternating current and voltage
graph can be used an instrument called oscilloscope. By using
oscilloscope, the maximum value of alternating voltage can be
determined, therefore the effective value can also be
determined.
If compared to direct current, then the alternating current
has several strength, those are:
a. Easy transferred using the distant power transmission
system
b. Easier to be broken off and safer to be used
c. Easy to be increased or reduced using a transformator
d. AC electric generator is more simple, cheap and easy to be
made
e. The electric devices using AC electric source are more
cheap, simple and easy to be made.
2. Electricity at our Homes
More of electricity used in our everyday life is AC
electricity which usually has the effective voltage 220 volts.
The electric current used at houses is connected from
guardhouses using connector cable passing through kWh
meters and circuit breakers.
Electrodynamics Page 103
Sekering mempunyai spesifik tertentu,
seperti 1 A, 3A, 5A dan 13A.
Electrodynamics Page 104
The circuit breaker used in home electric installation
functions to limit the current that is permitted to be used .For
example, a 2A circuit breaker is set in a house’s electric
installation with voltage of 220 volt, then the maximum
power permitted is 2 A × 220 volt = 440 W, its means if the
power used is more than 440 W, then the circuit breaker will
work (breaking the circuit).
For the safe use of electricity at home, then is used a
fuse which made of the thin wire and will break if passed by
over limit current.
Fuse has the important use at the home electric
installation, that is to prevent the occurring of fire because
korsleting. Fuses have certain specification, such as 1 A, 3
A, 5 A and 13 A.
