1. Abide with me, fast falls the eventide, The darkness deepens, Lord with me abide! When other helpers fail, and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, on abide with me.

In life, in death, O Lord abide with me!

ADEBAYO AKANDE OMO, FALETI 9 ADEJOKE ARA IJILEJEMY MOTHER'S STORY 9 BY ADEBAYO FALETI (As Captured by Gbemisola Faleti)

“Adejoke ara Ijileje,” that was the pet name given to me by my mother. She had narrated the story of my birth. She said it was in the night, she could not tell the clock or date, but it was in the night. Her father had been awake because it all happened in her father's house – Ile Ateere, Alagbede, Oke Aafin, Oyo. As it was the culture then, a pregnant lady would always stay under her mother's care until childbirth. Her mother was awake too.

Her mother was coming in and getting out of the room at regular intervals, but all was not well. Soon her father's junior brothers – Ogundele and Ogunkojo soon joined them. They all lived in the family's large compound as was the case in those days –each branch of the extended family living in its own apartment, and each of them ready to lend a hand whenever the need arose. Soon, the women of the house joined them. Two of the women came in to her in the room and occasionally, they would say “Pele O,” in turns which means, “May the pains cease”. But the pains did not cease. Two women came in to stay permanently with her. One crouched in front, - the other stood behind. The one in front then said, “Kneel down properly and put your thighs apart, then flex the muscles of your stomach as if you were going to force something out of it”. She said she did, but nothing happened.

Then her father brought in a piece of ground and boiled maize loaf stirred into a smooth paste and mixed with some quantity of water and some powdery drug. This was given to her to drink. There was water and blood, but no child. Anxiety then grew high, because she had been in labour since the early evening and the time was now getting past half of the night. More drugs were brought, but to no effect. Then everybody became restless. The women were speechless, they put their hands on their chests. One person, however did not seem to have been bothered by this anxiety. She was kosenatu – her father's other wife, who was junior to my mother's mother, but had no child. She was not from Oyo, but a sojourner from Ilorin who came to settle in Oyo and soon got attached to my mother's father as husband and wife, and a second wife at that. As the panic mounted for safety of my mother, Kosenatu busied herself in her room re-arranging her room of something of some sort. She showed no concern for the crowd-of people who came to their apartment to see to the safe delivery of the baby expected by their senior's daughter.

There were gossips here and there-about the woman's nonchalance. Time continued to pass, morning was fast approaching, yet there were no signs of relief.Suddenly, there came a new baby's shrill cry! A baby-boy had been born! There were shouts of “A dupe o! E ku ewu o!” (Meaning “We thank God. We rejoice with you. Congratulations”) and such other greetings to my mother's parents. That baby was me - who was later named Ajibade, Adebayo, Moyosore, Mosobalaje and many more.

Two strange things happened in quick successions in the dark hours of that early morning. My mother's father having thus been relieved and in great happiness brought out some dried pieces of bush meat to be cooked for the morning meal which he wanted to be special. He then gave them a bottle of palm oil. He asked them to cook the soup with the whole content of the

17

bottle. In fact he poured it all out into the pot himself. But unfortunately, the content in the bottle was honey which he had mistaken for palm-oil.

As the cooking of the meat and food went on, water was also being boiled to bathe the new baby. The women of the house then went around the premises, half-dancing half-trotting and shouting, as was the habit at the time “A bimo o! A bimo o!” (we've had a baby, we've had a baby) so that the whole household could be alerted in order to come and tend the new mother and rejoice with the Ogunjimi family.

As this was going on, Kosenatu, who had been seen re-arranging her room or something of the sort, did not even bother to jump out of her room, at least in pretentious ecstasy to rejoice with the surging jubilant family crowd and congratulate either the new mother or the new grandmother who is her matrimonial senior. Rather, she was seen (by those who tried to spy on her) to be winding up her arrangement or packing, because she was now seen to have been putting a lot of her belongings in a travelling net which was being used as a traveling bag in those days, and tying the opening of the net into a knot ready for carriage. Without asking anyone for help in lifting her luggage, and without saying hello to any of the bystanders who were close to her room, she put her luggage on her head and walked out of the room as if she was going to a distant market or going on a journey. Everyone was marveled at this strange action, but nobody accosted her or asked her any questions but simply made way for her to pass. But strangely enough, she was never more seen or heard about ever since.

ADEBAYO MOSOBALAJE AJIBADE AKANDE

ALAGBA DR . PR INCE

Faleti Faleti Faleti (OON, D Litt, FNAL, J.P, J.P)

HIS BIOGRAPHY

An accomplished poet, an illustrious playwright, a noble son of Oduduwa and a great but very humble Nigerian and illustrious citizen of Oyo State, the translator of the Nigerian National Anthem from English into Yoruba (now in official use in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti, Kwara and Kogi states).

thAlagba Dr. Adebayo Ajibade Faleti was born on the 26 of December, 1921 at Oyo, Oyo State of Nigeria.

His mother, Durowade Ayinke was a granddaughter of Prince Adesokan Baba Idode, Atiba's son who was next in line of succession to Adeyemi Alowolodu while his father, Awotunde Akanbi Faleti was a tradesman and traveller from Ile Baale Idode, Isale Pakoyi, Oyo. Atobatele Atiba begat Adesokan, Adesokan begat Eyinade, Eyinade bagat Durowade.Durowade begat Adebayo Adande.

He grew up in Agbooye village, via Ogbomoso and his childhood was typical of a prince on one hand and farmer's child on the other. Most times when his father was away on business trips and he had to go on short holidays with his grandmother, he was always given the treatment befitting of a prince as he would not be allowed to do anything by himself. Little wonder he was given tribal marks from the royal family, and not the ones from his father's lineage.

His foray into education was not without hitches. A story was told of how his younger sister, late Mopelola had to go on servidom in the farm of his father's creditor when his parents could not pay back the money they borrowed to pay his school fee.

His quest for attainment of academic excellence made him to enroll for a degree programme at the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria between 1965 and 1968 where he obtained Bachelor of Arts degree in English. He proceeded to the Radio Netherlands Training Centre, Hilversum, Holland in 1971 where he obtained Certificate in Television Production. Alagba Faleti also attended University of Dakar, Senegal in 1966 for certificate of Proficiency in French Language and Civilization (Certificate d'Assiduite).

To prepare himself for the challenges ahead, Alagba Adebayo Faleti further attended several other professional and management courses such as the Nigeria Institute of Management (1974), Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) in (1975), and other top management courses between 1977 and 1980.

Alagba Faleti's hard work, deep sense of responsibilities, meritorious service to humanity, his race and society in general have been acknowledged by many organizations, institutions, states and the Nigeria Nation as

Adebayo Faleti was one of the best exponents of Yoruba language

whose dexterity and skills were demonstrated while alive. He was a man who

faced lifewith equanimity, as he hardly worried himself about earthly

desires.Unknown to many, late Adebayo Faletitranslated some of the speeches

of first Nigeria Military President, Ibrahim Babangida, and former Head of the

Interim National Government[ING], Chief Ernest Shonekan, and the National

Anthem into Yorubalanguage. He also bagged National Theatre Award of

Officer of theOrder of Niger [OON] for his brilliant works. He was proficient,

veryfluent in English language and not superfluous. You do not have many

people around with such gifts.

His dressing was distinctive and replicato Oyo Yoruba tradition.

Whenever he attended public events, his capuniquely bent vertically and

almost covering the right ear. His tall, imposing physique with oblong face and

trademark of Oyo six tribalmarks depicts symbol of Oyo royal family.

Faleti's skills in both English and Yoruba languagescould be seen in the

way he translated the National Anthem into Yorubalanguage. His use of

English was analytical and he was a man who distancedhimself from party

politics. To those the late poet worked for and those that served him, they could

testify to his inguinal nature, as hischaracter could be seen in his works. With

his passage, Oyo and indeed Yorubalandhas lost one of their finest. May he find

peace with his creator.

FALETI IN THE EYES OF FAMILY MEMBERS

Count your blessings name them one by one,Count your blessings see what God hath done,Count your blessings name them one by oneAnd it will surprise you what the Lord hath done. I am counting my blessings, Adebayo, Akande Iji Omo Oloye ajiboke. I am grateful to God for our union of 60 years. I thank God for knowing and living with you. I thank God for a lot of things you have taught me: to see and not see, to hear and not hear, to listen and hesitate to give answers.I have learnt to become a grassroots woman from you, I have learnt well to fit into those societies you cherished.

Our relationship was built on friendship when we met in 1956 and the friendship showed even in our crack of 41 years which was finally re-cemented by Prince Lala and Mr. Tubosun Odunsi on August4, 2012. On the said day a lot of issues were resolved between yourself and I and even the children. This, I remember , led to a lot of documents and bitterness being destroyed (burnt). Eventually, I let go and let God. I was able to arrange Sunday school for you at home with your Church pastor when I noticed you were growing weary. I seize this opportunity to appreciate Mr. Okedele who steadfastly came every Sunday to wade through the Sunday school manual with you and the family. You became a new Christian through the effort of your pastor who regularly paid you his pastoral visits.

Remember the huge burden you have placed on me. I promise, God helping me, to carry it without any bitterness. I am confident that we shall meet to part no more at Jesus' feet. Fare thee well Akande Iji. -Iya Afin Moteniola Faleti JP- Wife

Adebayo Akande Omo Faleti you are a loving, caring and a cheerful giver. You have gone but your affectionate love will always be remembered. Abiyamo tooto, you were a good companion. I will miss you dearly. The day you departed this world you spoke to us in proverbs not knowing the day is near to meet your Lord. Since I got married to you I never regret my relationship with you. My darling husband sleeps well till we meet to part no more. -Olori Olubunmi Faleti – Wife

Adebayo Faleti, a playwright: In cultural traditions made an indelible impact. In right conduct, he was found worthy. He was a dogged fighter, strong in conscience and refused to give up in the face of difficulty or opposition. He had borne intense suffering for years – affliction, oppressions, depression, frustration, hatred, and jealousy. In the face of persecution, he would never cringe; as the storms were raging, fate often brought him out triumphantly waxing stronger and stronger. Believing that key to victory, as the pursuit of all means, however small which might promote success. His strong common sense with incisive mind acquired the quality of genius, which enabled him to forecast which such accuracy to do what he defined as the main business of life. He relied only on what he was sure he could count, and adapted his ends strictly to his means. He made his struggles to achievements on ropes – if anything went wrong, he tried a knot and went on. He mastered, captained his soul, and was owner of his opinion. Most faithful, trustworthy, steadfast, devoted to his course and often sure of himself. Brave in peril, constant in tribulation; served not another's will but made honest thought his 'amour and truth his utmost 'skill'. He was so versed in performances of traditional poetry, music, dance and drama. Strictly adherent of Yoruba beliefs, traditions, cultures and rites. His soul will live in the hearts of many Nigerians forever. Thanks to God for showers of blessings over us. After few days of pleasure, heavy losses of opportunities, long days of sorrows, horrible days of disappointments, long days of misfortunes, God has made us to understand that whatever comes our ways is our fortune. -Adebayo Faleti – Ajibade Akande iji Ma fi gbogbo ara jokoo Gigako lomokunrin gako Eetu a k'agba mo na tan A k'ara oko bii en'go. Precious brother, you were an intellectual full of wisdom and understanding. An affectionate brother with whom I lived most of my childhood days with at Oshogbo and Lagos on transfers at Ministry of Information and later to Ibadan at WNTV –WNBS. Oh !my great mentor is gone. -Baba Jolaade as you were popularly called in Lagos in those old days. Goodnight Pa until we meet and part no more -Mrs Jolaade Ekakitie (Nee Faleti) - Sister.

* Pa Adebayo Faleti, an erudite scholar was an amiable, simple and complete gentleman. A great man indeed. In him I learnt a very great lesson. U rarely find great men who are approachable and humble. He was an embodiment of simplicity and humility. I will greatly miss him Great men like him are rare. They come one in a century. Good night Papa .

-E. A. Ekakitie – Brother-In-law

A father of many, a father to all.A mentor, a councellor, a tutor, a man of few words but full of action. Ajibade, Akande-iji, I will miss your care. Your sobs like a woman when we were down, your joy when we excelled. I believe you have gone to sleep, you have gone to rest. You came, you delivered, you conquered living your impact in the hearts and lives of many and living your footprints in the sound of time.Adieu father, till meet to part no more.

-Adeboola Alarape (Daughter)

Losing a loved one is one of the most difficult things anyone can go through, so much more if it's a father. No words can express what I am feeling right now by your transition but time is a great balm that heals even the deepest and most painful wound. Daddy I have come to accept the reality that you are gone to be with your creator. Through thick and thin, down and lows daddy you gave so much of your love, money, time and emotional support to me and which saw me through the troubles of life. You did so much for me when I was a little boy whom you always cried for in my primary school days because of my stupid decision and refusal to go to school. Your refusal to lose hope in me as other people did inspite of my truancy in school about 47years ago made me what I am today. A dependable and straight forward man who demanded little from those around him you were. Your concern and care for peoples' well being was exemplary. A natural father with an abundance of intelligence and broad experience which you demonstrated in the development and growth of we your children. The combination of a father and a friend in one person is very rare to find but I thank God that I did not only found both in you but you also served as an inspiration to me. The highest tribute to the dead is not grief but gratitude. Your life was a blessing not only to we your children and family but to all the descendants of Oduduwa the preservation of whose culture, tradition and language you devoted your entire life to. The music has ended but the melody lingers on. Rest on Daddy (Ipade tun di o ju ala) -Ayoola Faleti- Son

Oh what words can describe your fatherly love? Or how will I begin to tell of your excellent care? You're a wonderful father, one in a million yet Death has taken you away from me. I, your son, will never forget your true love nor your tender care. You have gone to a land of peace and you will be greatly missed by those you've left behind. May you continue to rest in perfect peace. Goodnight Father. -Abiola Faleye Faleti - Son

Until his death, my father was loving and very caring. He wished everybody around him well. I recall when we were growing up, if he had N500 and there was no food at home, if somebody came with a problem, my father would give him the whole N500 and assure that we would not die if we didn't eat that day. I can recall when I had Cesarean Session for two of my babies, my father would stay outside the theatre weeping and praying that I should come out alive. If we were too late in giving what he expected and he got to know from there that you were broke, without asking him, he would send money to you discreetly and assure you that all will be well. My darling father- a father in a million, though you have gone, but your works live on. Rest on my dearest father. -Aderonke Omowon- Daughter

I'm short of words on how to express myself. My father, my source of inspiration, my role model, my counselor! You endured and tolerated my excesses. Whatever and wherever I am today, is by the grace of God and through your tolerance. The greatest thing I will miss about you is those early morning calls to pray for me and my family. Of all your children, my husband- Bode Famose and I are the most opportuned to enjoy your fellowship. You did not only attend my daughter's wedding, you were there at my graduation from Ladoke Akintola University, The Polytechnic Ibadan and when I was given award of excellence in FUTA. God gave you the grace to see your great grand-children before you left this world. Indeed, you were there at all times to witness my success and share in my joy! I am yet to come to terms that you left without saying goodbye to me. My joy is that you lived a fulfilled life and left a good legacy for your children. However, my greatest joy was the day I led you to Christ, which gives me the assurance that we will meet on that glorious morning when the roll call shall be made. I knew him as a real father who played the roles of both the father and the mother at the same time to all his children. A father who was always ready to lay his life down for the survival of any of his children. A man who had always sacrificed even no matter how little he had for others to survive. A man who was never all out to amass wealth through the opportunities that he had. He was my friend, he was my confidant.

If At All We Die NotIf at all we die not,Whither are the people of the past millennium?Adebayo Akande-iji, if peradventure we die not,Whither are the people of the past eras?Of the Paleozoic, of the Mesozoic, of the Jurassic? If we die not at all, AjibadeInto extinction the dinosaurs, the quagga, the faunas, the iguanas wouldn't have gone.

If at all we die not, Mosobalaje,Whither are the ancestors?Whither are the apostles? the Pharisees and the Sadducees?Whither even are the irunmoles? If we die not at all, my father my mentor,Whither is Oduduwa, the progenitor of Yoruba race?Whither is Oranmiyan, the adventurous warrior?Whither is Sango Olukoso arekujaye?Whither is Latoosa, Balogun Ibikunle, Ogedengbe Gbogungboro agbangbase? If truly we die not, whither are our forefathers?

Adebayo Faleti, Akande eleetu ibon,If we die not at all,Whither is Awolowo, the architect of good governance?Whither is Bola Ige, Wither is Great Lam?If truly we die not, omo Durowade,Whither is your father, Joseph Akanbi Faleti?Whither is your mother, Princess Marian Durowade Ayinke?Whither are they, whither are aware most cherished? If we die not at all, Adebayo,You would have been here with us.

Remember I the times, the memories, the reminiscences, When the little me sat at your feet,When you initiated me into the world of literary insomniacs,When on me you put the toga of literary antiquities,Feeding me with words on a marble.Remember I also the periods, When I got lost and maroon, when I was at sea.Sea of argument and confusion,And I had to call for a bail out, for your counsel and help on knotty issues,

Remember I that from your sick bed,You proffered solutions to those knotty issues. If at all we die not, you would have been here with us.

Remember I again and again,The bravery of you mind, the steeliness and solidity of your heart,How you confronted the animals in game hunting expeditions,In the dead of the night,Also remember I the days you confronted a gang of bandits,Taking them up on why your house was a choice for their invasion,On three of such occasions I recall,Never for once did you budge or give in Ajibade,Singlehandedly subduing them all.If at all we die not, Faleti,You would have been here with us.But of many that are no more, some never die,Of a truth they die, but never they die,They remain 'Kuti' like Fela,Like Olikoye like Beko,Like Funmilayo Kuti, the matriarch of modern day organized protests,They leave, but their memories stay,They never die but only transit,From the terrestrial, to the celestial.

So now as you transit Adebayo Faleti, from this ephemerality to immotality,We see that the sky is beclouded with cumulonimbus,Giving a sign of a heavy downpour that will never fall,Yet we affirm that Faleti is the latest 'Kuti'For he only takes a bow, his works make a stand. In his books, his poetries, his translations, and in his followersand his mentees he dwells. So like the past immortals, Adebayo Faleti, you live onLike Awolowo… Adebayo Faleti lives onLike Ladoke Akintola… Adebayo Faleti lives onLike Adekunle Ajasin… Adebayo Faleti lives onLike Bola Ige….. Adebayo Faleti lives onLike Emmanuel Alayande…. Adebayo Faleti lives onLike Chinua Achebe… Adebayo Faleti lives onLike Great Lam… Adebayo Faleti lives on.Forever in our memories, Adebayo Faleti lives on. -Fagbemisola Adetunji Faleti -Son40

My true Confidant My best friend, my confidant. I thought you would wait for me to celebrate your birthday with you in December. I have been speechless since the news.Looking at your Swedish bitters, your blue napkins, your favorite coloured cups (white) and many others. I just have to accept the fact that you are gone, and you are in a better place. Everything about you is so unique and different in their ways. Your birth was unique, according to the story you always told. Your breakthrough in life was unique. Your living was unique. Your dressing was unique, especially the unique way you wore your cap (Faleti's style), it is not common at all. People tried to imitate, but it is never the same.So also was your relationship with Family members, children, wives, neighbours, friends and strangers. You are irreplaceable. All your voice messages is all I have left. "Adewumi, please call me back when you are free. It is me, Adebayo Faleti." "Adewumi, èmi Adebayo Faleti ni mo n pe o oo, ko pemi pada dakun, o seun," and then the clearing of your throat, and many more other voice messages. You are there, laying down your life. I was hoping you would get up to comfort me just as you always did. But No, because... You have come, You have lived, and You are gone. Rest on and on in peace my true confidant. Forever you will be missed my role modelSunday, July 23, 2017 will always be remembered. -Adewumi Faleti-Folorunso - Daughter

Such is life the sun rise in the morning and sets by evening and no one bothers to question it where it comes from and where it has thus departed. The rain comes in spring and leaves for harmattan to show up in winter and still, no one bothers to question where they come or where they go to hide when it's not their season. A father has come, one so true and dear to heart, and he's now gone. Though we never wondered much where and how he came, and now that the time has come for him to go to a greater place that we know, we firmly hold on to him not wanting to let him go, but such is life, a lot of things are beyond our control and so is this one. I've always been your “Adeitan” all these years but only if one knew when the “Adeitan Adedoyin” saga started that I was able to decode that you were saying your final goodbye possibly, I would have hastened a lot of things up, but once again such is life. Goodbye a true to heart loving friend, confidant and father. -Adedoyin Adeitan Faleti - Daughter

Baba mi words alone cannot express or your impact in my life. You impacted value, wisdom, principle and virtues in me. You loved and treated everyone of us equally. You are a gem of inestimable values, you will forever be my hero. Rest well in the bosom of your God.Sun re o baba mi. =Adeola Mebude - Daughter

THE FALL OF AJANAKUAt the top of the hill, the owl yelpedThe hawk sounded the alarmThe Lion beckoned:“Come and see where the king is laid!”“Ajanaku, warrior from the tribe of SavannaThat eats from the palms of a TigerThey call Him a seed that sprouts beyond the forest of SambisaA wave whose currents behoove the leaves of Sebosa”Ajanaku, whose breasts many suck, and many have suckedWhose back, wide enough to bed infants and scholarsAjanaku, a sophist with a pen of graphological inkThat has shed light on the duskAnd has cleared the atmosphere with a brightened dawn

Where are you – Ajanaku? Where are you?Ajanaku, Lord of the forest,Whose steps unbalance the atmosphereAnd blow up winds from their resting bed;Ajanaku, whose songs awaken the birds of the forest,

Whose frowns sparkle like the strike of thunderWith a heavy smile, enough to dislocate puzzlers,to later resolve the hazy puzzlesWhere did you go?The trees murmur, monkeys turtle eastwardBats droop over the roof:

“Faleti is gone, the son of Atiba is gone!”The cattles retreated, the staff brokeHerdsmen lost the warThe eaglets gave in their feathersAnd borrowed Eagle's apparel:“Our sunlight has dimmed, Our light has become cloudy.”The classroom is emptyWhat is it to learn again?Faleti is gone, our teacher is done.Plants gave a bow when the land got dryHappy Antelopes, tell the Buffalosto tell pheasantsThat Akande, hunter is no more! -Adejare Faleti - Son

I have been extremely lucky to get a super dad like Alagba Adebayo Faleti who taught me the best tricks and trades of life. coolThanks for being there for me in your lifetime, You acted as my teacher when I was 5, my friend when I was 15 and my companion as I grew up in my 20s. You've beautifully synced your life with mine. I couldn't have asked for more. Adebayo faleti, continue to rest in peace! -Adeniyi Moyosore Faleti - Son

Adebayo Faleti was so dear to me as a father and a special adviser. He advised me on issues of life, friends to keep and friends not to keep and mostly he advised me on how to behave when I start to work as a man in any company. He was always telling me that anywhere I might work be it a public or private sector, I must always make impact i.e I must always learn to do new things that has not been done by anyone and reasonable things that will be remembered for ever. He always advised that I should flee from sugar coated months of the money doublers and as a man I should always speak the truth. I love you so much dad and I believe we will meet again.Adesiyan Faleti - Son

You have experienced transition to glory of the righteous. The last victory, you have won. Enjoy your world in perfect purity of unbroken peace and undisturbed rest, on the bosom of our Lord Jesus Christ, reserved for honorable men like you.

We cannot quickly forget the stories you told about your childhood, how GIWA, baba agba, who loved you passionately, ensured that you were trained to be disciplined and hardworking; stories about your hunting expeditions, stories about your checkered academic pursuits, sweet memories of work experience with your fellow veteran broadcasters & artists including the challenges of the job since the WNTV WNBS days through Ile Akede and beyond, encouraging your children to be able to locate on the map, cities and nations in the world and seek more knowledge always. You encouraged us to put in more efforts in all we do. This is what you referred to as 'ASEJU'. ASEJU in this parlance is putting in extra efforts to excel.

You were very brave but soft & kind hearted, resilient and undaunting. You promised to teach me how to shoot a gun but never did! You must have your good reasons as usual. You were such a wonderful father!

In the words of Henry Longfellow, "Lives of great men remind us we can make our lives sublime and departing, learning behind us, footprints on the sand of time"You have made your mark and you will remain irreplaceable!Goodnight Baba -Oyebode Famose – Son-in-law

You're a rare gem, a wonderful father-in-law who became my daddy, a legend who has left behind great legacies. Your memories shall never fade and your excellent impact as a father never forgotten. Continue to rest in the bosom of the Lord. Adieu Baba. -Caroline Abiola-Faleti – Daughter-in-law

Oh Grandpa, ADIEU!!! RESPECT and HONOUR personified were, and are you as your work lives on. The Socrates of more than three generations. Extreme dexterity with the use of words, I know you for. I can vividly remember listening with rapt attention whenever you were telling us historical facts. I specially thank you for the care shown me while growing, especially your visits while in Secondary School and till I left University. I am so happy you left your footprints in the sands of time. May those SEVEN blessings that you always prayed for us be our portion. Amen..Sunreo!!!

Dr Remi Omowon (First Grandson of Alagba Adebayo Faleti)_

I was short of words when I heard of your passing on. I feel inside of me that I have missed another father after my father had passed on some years ago. I knew from that moment that I will miss a father of impact. A man for all seasons who will never let you go without an impact. A grandfather like no other. An icon. Rest well, grandpa. -Obafolahan Atinuke Orunsolu (Granddaughter).

Daddy, you were a loving father. You loved all your children. You were kind to all of us that you could give out or sacrifice anything to ensure our comfort. Daddy, you were not only vast in Yoruba cultural heritage but you imbibed its values, behaviour and way of life into your day to day activities despite the pressure civilization posed on it. The first time I met you, I remember vividly that you wanted to pray for my husband and I and I never knew you had started praying when you were saying things like; “Ori mi a siyin lo o, ori baba mi ori iya mi a siyin lo o…” until someone prompted me to start staying amen because as at that time I had never witnessed someone pray in such a Yoruba style except in movies. The greatest joys I have today is that God gave you the grace to walk in His ways till your departure.Daddy, we will continue to miss. O digba! -Funmilola Faleti – Daughter-in-law.

They say “to live in the heart of those who love you, is to live forever” Grandpa Faleti, thus; you will forever be “is” to me and never “was”. Vividly I recall my very first meeting of you at home in olororo, you were getting set for breakfast when I and my bestman (LekanSodipo) saluted you, I introduced myself as Adewumis boyfriend, over the course of our seemingly rigorous but fun Q&A with me been timid, you summoned us to join your feastlike breakfast, I declined and your response "iwo ta fe fun niiyawona Lon ko a jo je poyi". That day was the beginning of wonderful periods I got to spend with you. I know it is said that “We are the hero of our own story”, this I beg to differ for everyone(thing) I know sings praises of your good heart and great time spent with you. Adebayo Faleti, you are The Hero, humanity will miss you, rest on in The Lord. -Kolawole Folorunso- Son-in-law

Indeed “…….the Heavens themselves blaze forth the death of a Prince”. This was obvious when you died. It was a painful experience when I indeed saw that you had passed on as I was one of the very first people who saw you in that lifeless state. I shed tears because I flashed back to all the times we always came around to your place for your birthdays seeing you bubbling and full of life. Your death was really painful as I always procrastinated having a one on one lengthyconversation with you to ask some historical questions about the Yoruba race. This taught me a very deep lesson about life. Above all, we thank God that you met with Christ and you were able to ask for forgiveness of all your trespasses in life before you passed on. It takes someone loved by God to have that grace.Sleep on Dear GrandPa…………. -Koleade omo Omowon (The Jack of Ace) –Grandson

The righteous perish, and no one takes it to heart; the devout are taken away, and no one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil. (Isaiah 57:1). A man as humble and loving as Grandpa will always be remembered by those of us who knew him and loved him. Although we will miss him, his humor, his captivating stories, his smiles, his excellent leadership skills, his love and lots more. We take consolation in the good feelings of our memories. Grandpa, I will always miss you, but I have so many wonderful memories to hang on to. You were a role model, and a friend. I love you Grandpa.Good night sir! -Oyejide Ademola Famose Grandson

I won't be able to sing the Yoruba song he taught me” I love grandpa, he always said “amasenkan o” whenever I or Ayodeji tried to speak Yoruba to him. We love Grandpa so much. -Ayokunmi and Ayodeji Folorunso (Grandchildren)

Grandpa was a man of honour. One day I asked him that grandpa, why is it that you have white hair all over and my grandmother's own is not like that and the answer he gave me was “notirpe emi o ki n se egbe iya re” then I started laughing. I will miss his short stories, poems and songs. One of the song he taught me is. -Amusan Aanuoluwapo Adetoun -Granddaughter

One of the greatest privileges God Gave me was to have you as a grandfather. You inspired us and gave us pieces of advice thwhenever we needed to be guarded. I will forever cherish our yearly visits to Ojoo every 26 of December to celebrate your

birthday since when we were toddlers. You did not only enjoy the Biblical prayer “your children will sit around your table,” with your direct offspring, your grandchildren and great-grandchildren also did sit around your table. The good you have lived your life to do has been following us everywhere and it has opened doors for us wherever we go. Rest in perfect peace, my grandpa. -Dr. Tomisin Olakanmi - Granddaughter

We fondly called him "Daddy 'n 'badan" a nickname we gave to him.He was our reliable big daddy that we believed could shield us in time of discipline. Our soul lifter whenever he comes on visit, our "apoti Imo" during most conversations. Our dad's (Baba Adegoke Faleti's ) favourite and dearest brother. We grew to know them as two loving, humble, forgiving brothers. Their unique way of life is an epitome of modesty.Daddy 'n 'badan, your life was a model of fulfilled destiny, a life well spent with the creator's resources rightfully used affecting both great and small. You set a very high standard for us to follow - an academic and moral path we all can effectively build on.You upheld the FALETI family integrity, a good name we must not tarnish which is worthy more than rubies or gold"Daddy, my brothers, sister and I miss you so much and many of your fans known to me celebrate your integrity in my life.Your name has opened doors for me. your integrity made me dine and wine with kings and queens. My last conversation with you kept on ringing bells in my heart...We love you dearly dad, all thanks to God Almighty for the grace to die at a good old age although we wished you were still alive.Posterity will forever bless you daddy, sleep on till we meet at Jesus feet. FALETI - IN THE EYES OF PUBLIC OFFICERSI commiserate with the family of Alagba Adebayo Faleti over the death of their patriarch. I also condole with the Oyo State Government and the Nigerian literary community, the movie industry and all the media houses where Faleti served variously as a broadcaster, dramatist, scriptwriter, poet and translator. The deceased deployed his time and skills in the service of the nation through the creation of patriotic narratives on the tube and interpretation of speeches of presidents and heads of governments to reach a wider audience. I recall that the late thespian found his passion at an early age and worked against all the odds to acquire relevant knowledge and expertise. Faleti bequeathed to the upcoming generations not only an inspiring legacy but also that of focus, discipline and hard work. The local and international recognitions that Faleti won in his life time were not only well-deserved, but “proof of his acclaim and patriotism I pray that Almighty God will comfort his family, friends and associates and bless the memory of Pa Adebayo Faleti -Professor Yemi Oshibajo SAN – Vice President, Federal Republic of Nigeria

The late Faleti was a man of many parts; a great poet, celebrated actor, cerebral author, vibrant broadcaster, prolific writer and translator. The country would miss dearly. I learnt of his death while I was out of the country and was deeply saddened by his passing on, though at an advanced age.Baba Adebayo was a true Yoruba man and an illustrious son of Nigeria. He recorded may giant strides. He was an icon in the academic, literary and cultural worlds. He was a man of many parts- poet, actor, author, broadcaster and translator- and in each of these areas, he excelled. Chief Faleti was a pioneer of the first television station in Africa, the WNTV. Many would also remember his as the one who translated the Nigerian National Anthem, as well as many major speeches, from English to Yoruba. What Alagba FAleti did in the cultural field is no less remarkable. He was the vanguard of the promotion of Yoruba language and propagation of gthe rich cultural heritage of the Yoruba. I had developed a close relationship with Baba Faleti since I was governor of Lagos. I kept this relationship with him till he breathed his last. I partnered with him in the production of some of his trophy creative works. I commiserate with members of his immediate family, government and people of Oyo State, South-west and Nigeria. May his soul rest in peace. -Asiwaju Bola Hamed Tinubu – Former Governor of Lagos State and National Leader of APC

I condole with the family, friends and associates of Chief Adebayo Faleti, over the death of the ace broadcaster, writer, poet and actor. The passing away of Chief Faleti is shocking and devastating. I received the news of his death with shock and disbelief. He was a repository of Yoruba culture and tradition, and a good ambassador of the state. Even though Baba Faleti died at the ripe age of 95, his passing away is very unfortunate, disheartening and sad. Part of the things that endeared him to my heart was his simple lifestyle, his dislike for material wealth and commitment to the progress of the Yoruba race. -Senator Abiola Ajimobi - Oyo State Governor

The death of veteran broadcaster and actor, Pa Adebayo Faleti is sad. He was a zealous promoter of culture and his works will always be cherished. The poet and writer will be remembered for his contributions to the birth and growth of the Broadcast Industry, particularly the Television. -Senator Ibikunle Amosun FCA – Governor of Ogun State

Adebayo Faleti was a cultural Advocate for the Yoruba Nation. We will all miss him. May he find rest.Amin. -Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola- Governor, State of Osun

He was a repository of the Yoruba Culture, a rich library of the Yoruba language. An Ace Broadcaster, a fine Actor and above all a perfect gentleman. He was a role model to those of us who have taken the baton from his generation and move importantly, a father to those of us who took after our parents in the field of broadcasting. Adieu Alagba Adebayo Faleti. -Toye Arulogu, Hon Commissioner, Ministry of Information Culture & Tourism.

The death of renowned author, poet, broadcaster and actor, Pa Adebayo Faleti, is a huge loss to the country's creative sector in particular and to the entire nation in general. Pa Faleti was a trailblazer and a colossus across many genres, who left an indelible footprint in the Nigerian landscape.Generations of authors, poets, broadcasters and actors owe Pa Faleti a debt of gratitude for his dedication, hard work and love of country.I commiserate with the family and friends of the departed, as well as all practitioners in the sector, and pray that God will comfort them and grant repose to the soul of the departed. -Alhaji Lai Mohammed – Honorable Minister for Information and Culture

The life of dedication that the late Yoruba broadcaster and actor, Adebayo Faleti, lived should be celebrated. His life should be raised as a compass for the youth to follow. While the renowned actor and broadcast manager would be missed as an unparalleled repository of Yoruba culture, his footprints in the annals of Yoruba culture should be preserved.Baba Faleti was always willing to participate in anything that would promote Yoruba culture and language and that even in his old age, he offered himself as a pioneer member of the Board of Directors of Yoruba Academy, a cultural think-tank organisation established by the ARG. We commiserate with the Alaafin of Oyo, the Oyo State Governor, and Baba Faleti's biological family members. -Kunle Famoriyo - Publicity Secretary, Afenifere Renewal Group, ARG

Baba was a custodian of culture who guarded Yoruba culture jealously, despite the fact he studied English and French in the University. He believed so much in the development of Yoruba language and anything that has to do with Yoruba culture and did his best to promote the language and culture. He was a disciplinarian, straightforward and gentleman who never condoned any act of hypocrisy. That was the reason for his uncommon high level of integrity and was being respected by all. Nigerias and especially Yoruba people, will miss Pa Faleti, who stood for the race and worked so much to ensure that we never lost the rich Yoruba culture.

-Dele Odule – National President, TAMPAN Alagba Samuel Adebayo Faleti was a father in a Million. I was his personal assistant for some years but the few years I

We now recall those early days at Atiba Hall, Oyo when we used to struggle to watch you and your drama group. We recall when we were at the early days of Egbe Owo Oyo at Ibadan. We recall your activities at NTA, BCOS, MAMSER etc. You were prominent at the Oyo Pimacle Club, then suddenly you became home ground. No one can chronicle your attributes and how you impacted myriads of people. You were one unique star in the history of Oyo & Yoruba. Keep on resting God will take care of all that you left behind.

Papa Adebayo Faleti was a great elder and family friend to the Layiwolas of Iseyin. Though younger, he was a close confidant of our late father Hon S.A Layiwola in the late 1960s/early 70S they both took extra-mural centres from the university of Ibadan to Oyo and Iseyin respectively. They were deeply concerned for the educational advancement of their people. They will forever live in our hearts. Goodnight, heroic father and achievement.
