May the joy of the gospel be with us!
Last Sunday we celebrate the Day of the Word, a litur-gical feast instituted by Pope Francis to highlight the preeminent value of the Word of God in the life of the Church, of the parish community, in the life of every baptized person. In the midst of this celebration I would also like to announce as well the launch of the Parish Mission in our community, a mission that will formally begin on Ash Wednesday, February 26, 2020, and will conclude with the sending of all the members of the parish community as prophetic and missionary disciples at the Solemnity of Pentecost, May 31, 2020. This Parish Mission is a pastoral initiative to promote, embrace and develop the archdiocesan pastoral plan now when our parish enters phase 8 of that plan. At the same time it will give us the opportunity to live in depth the invitation of Cardinal, Seán P. O'Malley, Archbishop of Boston, to gather around the Eucharist, to the devotion and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and missionary work in the Year of the Eucharist 2020-2021. In mid-February we will publish a flyer explaining in more detail what the Mission will consist of, what training, mission and celebration activities we will have, and where it is leading us. For now, the Pastoral Council, the Parish Animation Team, the apostolate groups will begin to know about the Mission and to focus the pastoral work around it. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your availability on this missionary call and I ask our patron, Saint Benedict and our Mother the Virgin Mary, Star of Evangelization, to guide us in this pastoral adventure. ¡Que la alegría del evangelio nos sostenga!
El domingo pasado celebramos el Día de la Palabra, fiesta litúrgica instituida por el Papa Francisco para destacar el valor preeminente de la Palabra de Dios en la vida de la Iglesia, de la comunidad parroquial, en la vida del bautizado.
En medio de esta celebración quisiera anunciar también el lanzamiento de la Misión Parroquial en nuestra comunidad, misión que comenzará formalmente el Miércoles de Ceniza, 26 de febrero de 2020, y concluirá con el envío de todos los miembros la comunidad parroquial como discípulos proféticos y misioneros en la solemnidad de Pentecostés, 31 de mayo de 2020.
Esta Misión Parroquial es una iniciativa pastoral para impulsar, asumir y desarrollar el plan pastoral arquidiocesano ahora cuando nuestra parroquia entra en la Fase 8 de dicho plan. Al mismo tiempo nos dará la oportunidad de vivir en profundidad la invitación del Sr. Cardenal, Seán P. O’Malley, Arzobispo de Boston, de reunirnos en torno a la Eucaristía, a la devoción y adoración del Santísimo Sacramento y el trabajo misionero en el Año de la Eucaristía 2020-2021.
A mediados de febrero publicaremos un volante explicando más detalladamente en qué consistirá la Misión, qué actividades de formación, misión y cele-bración tendremos, hacia dónde nos dirige. Por lo pronto, ya el Consejo Pastoral, el Equipo de Animación Parroquial, los grupos de apostolado empezarán a conocer sobre la Misión y a enfocar el trabajo pastoral en torno a la misma.
Desde ya te agradezco de corazón tu disponibilidad para este llamado misionero y le pido a nuestro pa-trono, San Benito y a nuestra Madre la Virgen María, Estrella de la Evangelización, que nos guíen en esta aventura pastoral. En mis oraciones, Padre Alejandro

BENDICIÓN DE LAS GARGANTAS La bendición de las gargantas es una tradición en la iglesia católica romana que se celebra en y/o cerca de la fiesta de San Blas de Sebaste. Tendremos la bendición de las gargantas el lunes, 3 de febrero, en las misas de 8am y 7pm.
NOCHE DE ROMANCE “De manera que ya no son dos, sino una sola carne. Pues bien, lo que Dios unió no lo separe el hombre." El sábado, 15 de febrero de 6pm-12am, San Benito se viste de gala y será anfitrion para la Noche de Romance 2020. El costo es de $130 por pareja y sera en el Irish American Club en Malden. Para obtener sus boletos para esta noche de gala por favor contactar a Claudia o Yessenia a la oficina parroquial.
RETIRO PARROQUIAL DE CUARESMA El sábado, 29 de febrero, tendremos nuestro retiro de cuaresma comenzando a las 8:30am en el hall de la escuela. Todos son bienvenidos!

VISITAS PRIMER VIERNES– SEMINARIO El viernes, 7 de febrero, el seminario Pope St. John XXIII, tendrá una cena en 558 South Av, Weston, MA de 4:30pm-7:30pm para todo aquel entre 30-60 años de edad que este interesado en saber sobre ser semi-narista. ENCUENTRO JOVENES ADULTOS
El domingo, 9 de febrero habrá encuentro de jóvenes adultos después de misa de 11:45am en el sótano de la rectoría. ENCUENTRO DE MATRIMONIOS El sábado, 8 de febrero, habrá un encuentro de matri-monios en el sótano de la rectoría comenzando con la misa de 6pm.

NIGHT OF ROMANCE
“So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, no human being must separate.” On Saturday, February 15, from, 6pm-12am, St. Benedict Parish will host the Night of Romance 2020. The cost is $130 per couple and will be at the Irish American Club in Malden. To get your tickets for this gala night please contact Claudia or Yessenia at the parish office.
PARISH LENT RETREAT On Saturday, February 29th, we will have the Parish Lent Retreat starting at 8:30am in the school cafete-ria. All are welcome!

145. Contrariamente a lo que muchos piensan, el Señor no quiere debilitar estas ganas de vivir. Es sano recordar lo que enseñaba un sabio del Antiguo Testamento: «Hijo, en la medida de tus posibilidades trátate bien […]. No te prives de pasar un buen día» (Si 14,11.14). El verdadero Dios, el que te ama, te quiere feliz. Por eso en la Biblia encontramos también este consejo dirigido a los jóvenes: «Disfruta, joven, en tu juventud, pásalo bien en tus años jóvenes […]. Aparta el mal humor de tu pecho” (Qo 11,9-10). Porque es Dios quien «nos provee espléndida-mente de todo para que lo disfrutemos» (1 Tm 6,17).
146. ¿Cómo podrá ser agradecido con Dios al-guien que no es capaz de disfrutar de sus pe-queños regalos de cada día, alguien que no sabe detenerse ante las cosas simples y agradables que encuentra a cada paso? Porque «nadie es peor del que se tortura a sí mismo» (Si 14,6). No se trata de ser un insaciable que siempre está obsesionado por más y más placeres. Al contrario, porque eso te impedirá vivir el presente. La cuestión es saber abrir los ojos y detenerte para vivir plenamente y con gratitud cada pequeño don de la vida.
145. Contrary to what many people think, the Lord does not want to stifle these desires for a fulfilling life. We do well to remember the words of an Old Testament sage: “My child, treat your-self well, according to your means, and present your offerings to the Lord; do not deprive your-self of a day’s enjoyment, do not let your share of desired good pass by” (Sir 14:11.14). The true God, who loves you, wants you to be happy. For this reason, the Bible also contains this piece of advice to young people: “Rejoice, young man, while you are young, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth… banish anxiety from your mind” (Ec 11:9-10). For God “richly provides us with everything for our enjoy-ment” (1 Tim 6:17).
146. How could God take pleasure in someone incapable of enjoying his small everyday bless-ings, someone blind to the simple pleasures we find all around us? “No one is worse than one who is grudging to himself” (Sir 14:6). Far from obsessively seeking new pleasures, which would keep us from making the most of the present moment, we are asked to open our eyes and take a moment to experience fully and with gratitude every one of life’s little gifts.
