LA VILA DE PRADES

A Prades crida l’atenció que tot està envoltat pel color vermell de les pedres que

aixequen la muralla, l’església i una bona part de les cases. Aquesta coloració és la de

la pedra afilada que configura una bona part de la perifèria de la vila. Aquesta

característica, única a Catalunya, li ha donat el nom de Vila Vermella. Entre els llocs

d’interès del poble hi trobem la plaça Major, la font esfèrica renaixentista, l’Església

de Santa Maria la Major, gòtica, d’una sola nau amb volta ogival i façana

renaixentista rematada per un frontal triangular. També trobem trams de muralla

amb restes del castell, dos portals romànics, diverses mostres d’art gòtic i una torre

de defensa quadrangular.

THE VILLAGE OF PRADES

Prades is notable that you are surrounded by the red colour of the stones used to

build the walls, the church and many of the houses. This colour is that of the sharp

stones which can be easily found around the town. This feature, unique in Catalonia,

has given the name of Vila Vermella (Red Town). Among the attractions of the village

we find the main square (Plaza Major), the spherical Renaissance fountain, the Gothic

church of Santa Maria la Major, an ogival vaulted nave and the Renaissance facade

topped with a pediment. Sections of the wall show the remnants of the castle, two

Romanesque town gates, various samples of Gothic art and a square tower defence.

SIURANA

Apropeu-vos a Siurana i descobrireu un poblet de conte que porta a la pell el record

d’assetjaments inacabables i conquestes impossibles. Encinglada en un lloc

inexpugnable sobre el riu van caldre els cavaller de quatre comtes per sotmetre-la.

Conquerida el 1153, després de caure Lleida i Tortosa, va ser l’últim reducte de la

reconquesta a Catalunya. Abdelazia, la reina mora, abans de veure’s sotmesa als

cristians, va preferir estimbar-se d’un cingle amb el seu cavall. I l’animal en la seva

inútil resistència, va deixar sobre la roca, marcada per sempre més, la petja de la seva

ferradura. Avui dia, podem contemplar un poblet encantador de cases i carrers

empedrats i les restes de la fortalesa sarraïna, situades a l’entrada del poble. Als seus

peus un pantà d’aigües netes i tranquil.les ofereix la possibilitat de practicar tot tipus

d’esports aquàtics.

SIURANA

Come to Siurana and you will discover a village that leads to skin the memory of

endless harassment and impossible conquests. Situated in an unassailable position

was conquered in 1153, after falling Lleida and Tortosa was the last stronghold of the

reconquest in Catalonia. Abdelazia, the Morish Queen, before be submitted by the

Christians, preferred jump from a cliff with his horse. And the animal in their futile

resistance, left on rock, marked forever the mark of his bridle. Today, we can see a

charming village houses and cobblestone streets and the remains of the Saracen

fortress, situated at the entrance of the village. At his feet a water clean swamp

offers the possibility to practice all kinds of water sports.
