If I am only scheduled or only work 4 days in 1 week, am I allowed to use my earned time for the other day (up to 40 hours/week) or not? Healthwise Goes LiveOur new patient education tool; your first stop for all patient education resources.

The Healthwise Patient Education project aims to develop one standardized, evidence-based, cross-continuum education platform for patient education at UnityPoint Health. It was selected as our organization’s vendor of choice by a multi-disciplinary, cross-system committee after careful consideration. Feedback from patients after review of several vendors served as a key deciding factor.

Base through the MyUnityPoint Patient Portal

Update to previous Ask Allen answer:

We’d like to provide some clarification on the question about the 4-Surgical linen closet that houses a shower used by patients. We mistakenly reported that a push button lock will be installed. The permanent signage will be adjusted to read “Linen/Shower Room” and a sign will also be made to hang on the door to notify associates when the shower is in use.

We keep the groups small to make sure everyone has a chance to share their thoughts. Please take an hour out of your busy schedule – Pam looks forward to getting to know you better!

Behavioral Health Emergency TeamWe are here to help you

Dianne Schultz Changing Roles

Traffic Crosswalk AdvisoryThe crosswalk trac light on West Donald Street at Allen Hospital Entrance 8 is now set to flashing red. The signal controller was damaged this weekend and may take two months to repair. A flashing red light means drivers must stop and then go when the way is clear. However, that does not mean they will. Please take care when crossing Donald Street, and be aware drivers may not see or obey the new flashing red light. We have talked with the City of Waterloo about adding extra signs or flags, but we do not anticipate that will happen.

On July 6, Allen will launch its newly created Behavior-al Health Emergency Team, commonly called BH MET. The BH MET has been created to provide immediate response to psychiatric crises on medical/surgical and critical care units. Responders may include security, spiritual care, house supervisor, EAP counselor, Mental Health Unit sta, and/or Emergency Department Sta.

Often times the need for Code Strong can be reduced or eliminated by using quick response to de-escalate a situation with proper techniques and additional re-sources.

Sta should call a BH MET when they are concerned about a patient’s behavior. Early activation of BH MET is essential to prevent the need for a more aggressive response.

The following 3 alert levels can help sta determine how to approach a concerning patient behavior or safety threat to patient or sta:

LOW: stay calm, listen to your patient, seek co-worker assistance if needed

MODERATE: call BH Met by calling x3600HIGH: call Code Strong x3600

Dianne Schultz’s UnityPoint at Home role as Vice President of Operations will be changing to help the organization focus on the integration and mentoring of new startups and programs coming into UnityPoint at Home. This increased workload is going to necessitate Dianne to relinquish the day to day operations of the Waterloo program.

While Dianne will maintain ongoing leadership of the Dubuque operation as it continues its exceptional growth and clinical delivery, Waterloo has experienced significant growth and clinical success in the past year and is in a position to now need daily leadership to accelerate its patient care mission. A new director of operations will be hired to oversee Waterloo’s daily

home health, hospice, palliative care, home medical equipment, and infusion services. Dianne will assist the executive team in transitioning the Waterloo program over the next several weeks to new leadership and then begin her new role.

Help us express our appreciation to Dianne for her dedication to Allen and our best wishes as she moves into her new role for UnityPoint Health:
