    The Back to School Drive

The purpose of the “Back to School Drive” was to provide book bags with school supplies for students who are in need. This act of giving eases the burden on families, as children returned to school. It is the 4th year that the Outreach Ministry has sponsored this project. A total of 375 appropriately-filled (for kindergarten through college) book bags were made available to students.

The planning committee elected a different business model this year by asking the congregation and others for monetary donations instead of material items. The support was enormous. From the funds received, an assortment of appro-priate back-to-school supplies, and book bags were purchased. The committee organized the bags into 3 groups, and decided on the appropriate supplies for each group.

The “Back to School Drive” culminated on July 23, as volunteers worked hard filling, sorting, and distributing the book bags. Lunch was served to those in attendance. There was also room for some fun, in the form of a Bible trivia. Prizes were given to student-participants who correctly answered Bible trivia questions.

Book bags were also provided to children at the Gwinnett Children Shelter. The Outreach Ministry continued to offer book bags for the next several weeks to students who are in need. Teachers and students of FBC identified appropriate recipient students from their respective schools. The Outreach Ministry, as well as the students, and families who benefitted from the “Back to School Drive” are grateful for the support of all who contributed to this very worthwhile cause.

    AUGUST A Purpose Driven Church

Early spring 2008, as a small group of FBC golf enthusiasts were involved in a casual conversation about their re-spective golf prowess, the subject of golf outings emerged. This discussion occurred only a few months after the first mention of a Family Life Center for Friendship Baptist Church. This initial group of golf enthusiasts was joined by a few other FBC golfers, and some non-golfers were also enlisted. The first FBC Golf Outing Committee was formed and began planning for a golf outing. Monday, October 13, 2008 was selected, in part because it was a legal, but largely un-celebrated week-day holiday. Collins Hill Golf Course was chosen from a group of area courses as it was available for the date selected. The initial Outing committee consisted of, Clendon Wilson, Thomas & Venda Young, T.J. & Erica Davis, Norwich

& Diana McGhee, Rhoda Green, Jacqueline Burrows, Robin Haynes, & Tameka Ram-sey. This truly dedicated group of hard working FBC members did everything they could to ensure the success of the first FBC Golf Outing. They all knew, without some initial success, it would be very difficult to seek support for a second. The Second and Third year Outing committees added Jim & Kay Vandiver, and Gail Watkins. The 2011 Outing committee consists of Charlene Benn and Gloria Dodd as Co-Chairpersons, Gail Lewis, Cynthia Urquhart, Norwich McGhee, Thomas & Venda Young. The goal for the first outing was to enter 24 golfers. However, we had 20 entrants and easily met our financial goal. The 2nd Annual Outing was held on Columbus Day, but was postponed and rescheduled due to inclement weather. Even though it did not rain as much on the rescheduled date; it was too cold for golfing. Because of the weather, we didn’t realize our 2009 goal. Nevertheless we defrayed our expenses. Our Second Annual Outing added the “Church Cup” as an incentive to involve local area churches into a friendly, spirit based competition. The winning church group would gain “possession" of the Cup for one year with all the bragging rights until the next outing. FBC has continued to maintain possession through the 2nd and 3rd annual outings.

The date for the 3rd Annual Outing was changed to a Saturday, September 25, 2010, and the host course moved to the Trophy Club of Apalachee, in Dacula. Our projection was kept to a moderate number of 24 golfers, and once again we were able to achieve our goal. In addition, we maintained profitability although the number of Outing Spon-sors was greatly reduced. The second and third Annual Golf Outings still maintained profitability despite the down-ward spiral of our nation’s economy throughout 2009, and 2010. In spite of the trials of years past, our current committee is looking forward to a “break-through” event for our 4th Annual Outing on September 17, 2011 at the Trophy Club of Apalachee. Our goal for this year’s outing is 100 golf-ers, especially since we have now identified over 20 golfers within the FBC membership. Our primary objective for FBC’s Annual Golf Outing is to raise funds for the Family Life Center. Since the first outing, an additional benefit was realized when we noticed the annual outing had became a wonderful “Fellowship” opportunity for God’s people to share outside the walls of their respective church.

Theme: "Glorify God In All You Do"

Psalm 96:4 For the Lord is great, and greatly to be praised: He is to be feared above all gods. Members and friends of Friendship embarked on a journey to better physical health, and on Saturday, June 30th, some moved 3 kilometers – others, even 5 – closer to that goal. Bunten Road Park in Duluth was the host site for the FBC Family and Friends Walking & Running for Jesus event. Bunten Road Park boasts many amenities, including splendid soccer fields, baseball fields and winding trails. The 10-foot wide, 1.08 mile paved asphalt trails nestled between the wooded landscape provided the ideal setting for the scheduled outing. The event participants assembled at the pavilion (near the playground) behind the Welcome Center. Some of the festivities included prayer, music, fellowship and exercise. Water and snacks were also provided to replenish the nutrients.

    THE MONEY MATTERS MINISTRY

Friendship Baptist Church has a group of dedicated and qualified individuals who are capable of offering sound financial advice. They are the members of the Money Matters Ministry. This ministry is offered through group classes as well as ‘one-on-one” private instruction. All appointments, consultations, and information are confidential and the service is free. The Money Matters Ministry consults on a wide variety of subjects such as: stocks, buying/selling of real estate, investing, budgeting, insurance, technology, tax planning, retirement planning, credit management, education, career planning, business start up, and marketing of your current business. When it comes to “your money” the Money Matters ministry thinks “it matters”. Anytime you are spending money you should have a plan, especially in this tough economic time. Certainly, spending should not be a random impulsive decision. Sadly, this is the way that many persons spend their money. When spending, especially large sums, you should get a second or even a third opinion. The Money Matters Ministry can provide you with that se-cond opinion. The Money Matters Ministry helps individuals to set up personal plans and family budgets. The ministry can offer individuals a plan outline, which can be set up and executed. The ministry tries to connect members with each other through networking. Friendship has sev-eral members who are business owners. Networking supports the church body. The Money Matters Ministry meets once per month on the 3rd Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the fellowship hall. The ministry believes that there is nothing that you cannot do yourself with a little coaching and that is exactly where they come in. They can help you organize your goals, and build a workable life plan. Plan your work and work your plan” “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkens unto counsel is wise.” - Proverbs 12:15
