Who was Friedrich Fröbel?:

What are Fröbels spielgabe (gifts) ?:

Concept:

was a German pedagogue, who laid the foundation for modern education based on the recognition that children have unique needs and capabilities. He created the concept of the “kindergarten”. He also developed the ed-ucational toys known as Froebel Gifts.

Fröbel advocated the importance of free play in childhood. Each of 10 gifts (Gabe) was designed to be given to a child to provide material for the child’s self-directed activity. Frank Lloyd Wright (ARCHITECT) was given a set of the Froebel blocks at about age nine, explaining that he learned the geometry of architecture. Gifts 4-5 are building gifts, simple blocks with which you can explore spatial concepts.

Create 4 of Fröbel’s spielgabe in the scale of furniture elements, allowing visitors to DIY create and ‘play’ a gute stube setting. They can make a coffee and enjoy it in the setting. They can also add a post it to the wall- a message or drawing of the process

Further questions to be considerd:-What sort of lighting do we need in order to create a atmospehre that is ‘gemutlich’

-how many sets of spielgabe do we have? Is 4 too many?

- should the spielgabe be made of cardboard rolls ( as displayed, in order to make them as light as possi-ble), or plexiglass (a material we already have)

- can the tubes be simply glued togeather or should be bind them togeather in a stronger fashion?

- Estimated costsTubes/glue/: 500 euroPost its: 100 euroPrinted Graphics for wall: 200 euroLighting: 200 euroAditional: 300 euro

total: 1300 euro
