The Gifts of the Magi (from usccb.org)

The Epiphany marks the arrival of visitors, identified

in Scripture as magi, to the place where Jesus was born. Although we know virtually nothing about them,

we do know they brought three gifts:

• Gold, a symbol of wealth and power, identifies the

recipient as a king.

• Frankincense, the crystalized resinous sap of a tree

used as incense and as an offering, is symbolic of prayer.

• Myrrh, another resinous tree sap, was used in

healing liniments and as an embalming oint-ment. Myrrh is an odd gift for a child—so, even at

the beginning of Jesus' life on earth, this gift fore-

shadows his death.

PREP News

PREP is ready for Sacrament Season 2018! Our 8th Grade Confirmation Class is busy preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation on February 1st.

On January 14th, they will participate in the Rite of Enrollment at our 10:30 Mass, followed by a luncheon with their

sponsors, Msgr. Finelli and Deacon Bob, including speaker, Jennifer Shankweiler. On January 21st, they will attend a retreat at St. Paul's Church. Practices for Confirmation will follow on January 23rd and January 27th. The Confirmation

Mass is then scheduled for February 1, 2018 at 4:30 PM. Candidates from St. Francis, St. Catharine of Siena and St.

Paul's will receive together. Our 2nd graders and older students preparing for First Penance and First Communion are working hard as well. First

Penance is scheduled for February 28th and First Communion will be held at the 10:30 AM Mass on April 29th.

The PREP family invites all of our parishioners to celebrate the receipt of these sacraments with us! January schedule: January 7th - Class
