Vilber Lourmat is pleased to announce the release of a new compact personal imager to enhance our current Western Blot documentation and fluorescent product portfolio, Fusion Solo S. Fusion Solo S is designed to address the constraints of a precious lab commodity, available bench space. While the dimensions are compact, the specifications are not. Solo S boasts a Sony unrivalled high 74% Quantum Efficiency sensor, 3.2 megapixels camera with our custom made unrivalled F:0.84 lens, 4 position filter wheel, LED epi white lights, a built‐in innovative Applications Pad container which can welcome any kind of illumination from UV to IR. The Solo S is impressively housed in a design and size that is reminiscent of a high-tech medical design. The current imaging market provides unique challenges. Solo S was designed with the consumer in mind, offering a fresh and innovative design while maintaining the high standards in image quality that customers have come to expect from Vilber Lourmat. Film is the main Fusion competitor. People like it because of its sensitivity.

Despite its sensitivity, film has several disadvantages:

Multiple film exposure could be required to get appropriate signal

Film dynamic range is not sufficient for quantification

In comparisons to films, several aspects need to be considered:

Quantification of the proteins Sensitivity will affect the amount of light that the system picks up and converts into your photo. Sensitivity is about the quantity of signal that can be collected by the system within a defined period of time.

The noise is the background baseline of the image. The imaging system can only collect the signal above this noise base. It should then be maintained to the lowest possible level.

The linearity describes the relationship between the detected signal and the sample quantity. The film has a reputation not to be linear. As a consequence, signal cannot be measured from a film.

Dynamic range refers to the possibility to have on the same image both the very faint bands and the very bright band without saturation of the bright bands. If the dynamic is poor, the system cannot detect the faint band without oversaturated the bright bands.

Section 3: Frequently asked questions This list of questions are compiled from beta testing sites and demos performed. Short answers are also provided: • What kind of camera is in Solo S? A scientific grade cooled CCD camera designed for extreme low light application. The Darq7 camera has a Kodak sensor while the Darq 5S camera has a Sony sensor. • How do I control the camera? Solo S is controlled through the Capt software. Fusion-Capt for the Solo 4S and Vision-Capt for the Solo 3S. Both the camera and the darkroom are connected through the USB port to the computer. • If I use the same size blot, will the system remember my settings? The lens has a precalibrated focus for all defined sample height. Camera settings will return to / stay at last known configurations unless they are changed even after rebooting the system. You can save your own settings in a separate application protocol. • What’s the field of view? The full of view depends on the Solo S camera. It could reach 21x21 cm at the Pad container level. • Does the UV box turn off for safety? Yes, the UV light shuts off after each acquisition, and there is also a UV safety switch that turns the UV light when the door is opened. The user has the ability to override this switch for preparative work while door is open. In this case, eyes and skin should be protected from the UV. • Can we image gels stained with dyes other than EtBr? Yes, you should be able to image any dye that is UV 312 / 365 / Blue / Green / NIR or IR excitable. Solo S has a 4‐position filter wheel that allows for easy changing of filters. Filters are not included and can be purchased from Vilber Lourmat. • I typically use SYBR Green and SYBR Safe, can I image that in Solo S? Yes. Solo S comes optionally with a UV or a Blue Pad for the excitation of the SYBER Green and of the SYBR Safe. • Can we image protein gels? Yes, we have either a White Pad with LED uniform light or a white light conversion screen that can be used for imaging visible dyes. • Can we image stained free gels? Yes, we have either a UV-Pad designed for Stained Free as well as for the most common DNA/RNA dyes. Our Apps Studio provide imaging application protocol for the stain free applications, including tryptophan activation.

• Can I image a silver‐stained gel? Yes, the optional white light conversion plate sits on the UV transilluminator. The sample tray holding your gel can be placed on top of the plate.
